My TV Broke Down

Archive: 20 posts

It's sad really. I woke up to watch some television, when I see the red color out of line. I tried to fix it, but it's just not working.

Why is this sad you say? Well, since I use my PS3 on that TV, I can't play LBP anymore. Which means, I have to skip out on some contest (like Morgana25' "Halloween 'Spooktacular' Level Design Contest") and I can't continue my "How To Tutorial Series".

Oh, and if you like to check out Morgana25's contest, then here's the link. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=17229

Now before you go out and say, "Just move your PS3 to another TV.", "Buy a new TV.", and/or ," What's the 'How To Tutorial Series'?", I have to say this. My (now broken) TV is special, that and it's the only big flat screen I have. I also can't get a new one, because I just got a new Alienware Laptop (which I love ) and I don't think I can get a new TV because of that. As for the " What's the 'How To Tutorial Series'?" questions, just search it up in the Levels Showcase, you'll find it.

Well that's it. I don't know exactly why I posted this up. Maybe it's for people with the same experience, or for people to chat about their problems. I personally think I posted this just to get it off my chest, but I guess I forgot about that during the process of typing this. Well until next time.

Peace

Update 1
Since everybody has been really helpful, I tought I should get some verdicts on my TV. What I mean is that I will really appreciate it if you can tell me if what my TV has is serious, or just a minor technical difficulty. Her's some pictures I took with my phone. Sorry for the low quality:

So is this minor ,or is this serious? Becasue, I'm hating my TV's "3D of Death".

Well that's pretty bad, have you not got any portable tv's though? They don't have briliant graphics or anything but I've used them before for PS3.2009-10-04 23:04:00

Cheapest solution is to hook up your computer monitor. If it uses DVI, all you need's an HDMI - DVI adapter/cable.

If it uses VGA, you may need 2 adapters - HDMI to DVI, and then DVI to VGA.

Aside from that, it is a shame that you can't play LBP and participate in the awesome Halloween contest, but holy crap, it's Autumn, the air is crispy and delicious (like a fine pastry), the tv is a prison, and the world, your oyster (who doesn't love exploring oysters?).

I say, do what we all should be doing and get out of here for a little while. The Gods have spoken! Hell, I should break MY tv!!

That sucks, I had the same problem with my bulky tv. But my friend was nice enough to give me his 13" bulky tv(which he doesnt care for anymore).
So, maybe you can ask your friend(s) for a tv to borrow?

That...was... poetic! *starts crying in the beauty of the poem*

Right now, I decided to try creating on LBP the best way I can. It'll be hard because the TV is making everything look 3D. You know, when there's a 3D movie playing, but you don't wear the glasses and all you see is red and blue. That's how my TV looks like.2009-10-05 00:57:00

Wow, that looks like a gnarly problem. I have some experience myself with bad tvs in the past, and I've had some basic broadcast tv schoolin'. That looks to me like a screwy convergence board.

The bad news is, if you need a new one, you almost might as well just buy a new tv. They can be expensive (neighborhood of 100 to 300 bucks maybe?). Your tv has an electron gun which fires 3 beams which scan the back of your tv screen, one for red, one for blue, and one for green. The convergence board deals with the beam alignment. So that looks like where your problem is, your beams are off their marks. If the tv isn't too old, you might be able to tinker with the convergence settings in Service mode. I've had to do this in the past for other problems, and if you're going to try it, you should know going in that you CAN permanently and even irrevocably damage your tv by changing certain settings in Service Mode. There are no warnings or filters - if you screw something up, you might not be able to fix it!

It's not supposed to be for the consumer, that's why they don't include Service Mode in the operating manual that came with your tv. It's a secret, shhh!

It's usually activated simply by holding down certain buttons on your remote, kind of like resetting an ipod. For example, hold down the menu button for five seconds and then press "power" and "play" simultaneously (just a random example) and presto chango, service mode.

But if you dig out your tv's model number and search online for service mode solutions to convergence problems, or at least a "repair manual" for your tv model, you MAYBE MIGHT MAYBE MIGHT find a solution.

But that's a big maybe! And you've been warned that even IF it's a possibility, tinkering in that mode without knowing what you're doing can make things a whole lot worse.

EDIT: And might I mention, that little sneak peak at your level is looking mighty fine indeed!! "Spookatakular" is a bit of a weird spelling though!

haha, I was thinking this too - Believe it or not, technically it could actually work, but you'd have to play sideways! If you don't mind playing/creating while lying 90 degrees on your side, and have 3D glasses, knock yourself out! You'll undoubtedly be able to produce an "accidental" random 3D effect in certain parts of the screen.

@chezhead
Ya, I know. I'm trying to enter Morgana25's contest again. Hopefully I can use my memory of the colors' positions to make a descent level. But other than that, I'll probably lose.

@Rabid-Coot
I tried, but I think that's what got it broken in the first place.

@Teebonesy
I know about the three lights in the back. It reminds me of the movies. Anyways, ya I tried to align and reset the things with my TV's Magic Focus. It didn't work, even after 34 times (ya, I counted).

@Sunrise Moon
I know, right! Hence why I called it my TV's "3D of Death". I wondered if it will actually work. Who knows...

@Everybody
Thanks for your support. I hope I can fix it. If not, I'll at least be the first person in LBP to play all Community Levels in 3D!

Um, this probably wouldn't work, and if it does you probably wouldn't want to but...
What if you try a red filter, or however that works, like 3d glasses without the green, then you would only see one image.

Of course, then everything would look red! It would work fine for a black and white level at least. But pretty hard to do sticker and color work I imagine.

I actually have some old 3d glasses, and I took a look out of curiosity, but the shades were slightly off, so you still see the ghosted image.
