This is a fire oriented level based on pure platforming. No story here. No enemies, and no bosses. I would say that the level is challenging but in a fair manner.

For this level, I wanted to make a level that had basic platformer principles with a fire theme. All obstacles are rather simple but unique in their own right. Reflexes and quick thinking will get you through this level. There are many points to be collected within the level. Explore all areas to find them all!

I play tested this level thoroughly but I might have failed to notice some bugs here and there. Please let me know if you find anything that seems to not work right and try you best to break it if you want.

The final sequence should work fine with some minor glitches foreseeable but I would love some feedback and suggestions if you find problems and possible solutions.

Thanks and have fun. I would love to provide plays and valuable feedback on all posters.

Also, I had to use an inverted exclamation point for "Sweltering" because it was being censored. Search using my PSN.

I tweaked some areas to create more balanced gameplay as I received a lot of feedback regarding difficulty

Changes:
- Added infinity checkpoint where the three rocks fall and sink.
- Changed the area where the three pillars sink and a platform rises at the end. The platform now does not sink below the surface. Many players could not time the jump and therefore did not complete the level.
- In the room where the "lava" rises and the player has to jump across numerous pillars, I made the pillars flat as the curved surface cause the sackboy to "skip" making it hard for inexperienced players to complete.

Judging by your screenshots, I can yet say that I love the visual style. The basic idea does also sound nice, I'll try it out during my next Play-session and give you detailed feedback.2009-10-03 12:02:00

That was a great level. You had some really nice platforms such as the ones which rose in the air while dropping fireballs, or those sinking platforms. The shaking wall was ingenious, and so were the balls that fell down into the lava, forming platforms. The level was really open, so much so that when I went into a path to the left, it seemed like I was going back to the entrance, but it was actually going further into the level. The ending was really great too.

5 stars and a heart

For F4F, could you please give feedback or review my level 'Race through the forest (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=17226)'?

I just got done playing the level, heres what I thought..

+ Nice intro with the shaking background and dropping bridge
+ Nice stickering and materials
+ Good sound effects
+ Like the fire hazards that drop and break to pieces
+ Like the multipath aspect
+Some great hazards

- The section were the platform shoots up in the air was'nt balanced at all, I tried twice and could'nt get past it. With the last stone sinking the way it does, you have to time the jumps perfectly, and I just could'nt do it.

I liked the level, but was unable to finish it

I hear you on that section. It is definitely a hard part. And to top it off I did not put a infinite checkpoint. While the rest of the level does not have such a precise jumping section, it can get difficult.

I would love to hear if others have a similar issue with the section Grantos pointed out. I might just tweak it a little bit to make it a little easier.

The section revolves around three pillars that sink when the player jumps on them. At the end of the three pillars is a platform that shoots out of the "lava." It essentially requires the player to time a "leap of faith" where they jump where the rising platform "will" be in just a split second before falling to their death. If anything I might just slow down the sinking for the third pillar.

Thanks for the feedback, and I hope I can get you to try and finish the level in the future!

The sinking platform section is a bit fiddly. But I think you could avoid nuisances by simply adding a new camera so we can actually see the platform we are aiming for. I made the jump on my fourth try but missed the platform above and failed my subsequent attempts.

I love the lighting and atmosphere within your level though. Lovely work overall.

I think you bring up a great solution regarding the camera. I will tinker around with it later today and see if I can make it more consistently doable.

Even I have some trouble completing that section on occasions. My strategy has been to hop between the second and third sinking platform in order to time the jump onto the rising platform.

Again, I hope anyone who had trouble with that section is able to complete the level at a later time.

Thanks for the feedback!

We will see. I love anything that's pure platforming.

Tweaked the area where players had some problems. Added a new camera angle and raised the platforms so the player has more time to perform the jumps.

I hope people don't have as much trouble on that section.

Thanks again for all the feedback.

I tried this level and it was pretty solid.

I loved how all the materials seemed to go with the theme, definitely loved the ending. The change to the rising/sinking platform section is fine now, I did it after 2 failed attempts, but I was rushing too much so it was on my part.

Anyways, it was a good level.

I gave it a 4 star and a heart.

Great job with the fire theme and I like the way the rocks sink into the lava. To be honest though, the level seemed a little bland at times. Maybe add some more decorations or add little nooks and cranies. It just seems to one dimensional to be a Mountain.2009-10-06 04:41:00

El Guero doesn't do decorations. If you can suggest some specific decorations that would improve the level, I would love to hear it.

Most of my levels have some kind of satire, including their titles. I use generic words with strange almost nonsensical adjectives to name my last three levels. My story driven levels are downright random, disturbing, or outright ridiculous.

I never intended to make a "Mountain" level, just went with a "fall into fire hole and commence" level and went from there.

I think it looked good without decorations. The stickering in the background was well done and added lots of visual appeal.

I didn't play this before you tweaked the difficulty but I can say it seems just fine now. Challenging but not frustrating at all. I died a few times on some of the harder platforming parts but it all seemed fair and was paced out well. I hearted this level awesome job!

great level, i had fun playing that one. 5 stars and a heart. i really liked some of the obsticles you came up with and the final section was an awesome race to the top. Great merging of your evironment with the obstcles. i liked how some of the bonus were one chance, and the one where you hit the checkpoint so you have to get back too. good use of checkpoints.2009-10-13 06:36:00

I thank you all for your feedback! I know that it is impossible to cater to everyone, but I really tried to make a basic platforming level that all could enjoy. Using and implementing your feedback, I really believe that I am closer to my goal than when I first published the level.

I believe that I am truly done with this level in regards to changes and additions. Most significant changes have been additional point bubbles, both hidden and part of the normal level trail. Other significant changes are noted in the first post.

I hope that anyone who had trouble completing the level when it was first published would go back and experience the rest of the level as there are later parts of the level that I am truly proud of and hope others enjoy it as much as I do.

Again, thank you all. I currently have "writers block" on a level that I have started so I would love to just play all of your levels, in between Uncharted 2 of course, rather than struggle on the new level.

Thanks again!
