My visit to Media Molecule studios

Archive: 51 posts

Ninja sackboys are on the lookout, so forgive me if I don't say what you want. =P

So... on my vacation to England, I stopped by Media Molecule and had a good time with the crew. Spaff was a lovely host, to say the least... on top of having the exact same jacket as me! We were wearing nearly similar outfits, it was scary.

It started out with a pub meal with the level designers to include johnee and Spaff. Hopefully I get the rest of their names right... Danny, Victor, Christophe, and Mark. Had a good little chat with all of them discussing various things such as the game itself to how fake the typically girl in Los Angeles looks.

We then moved back to the studios, which was way smaller than I thought. It's amazing how much work gets done in there, but you can tell everyone at Mm is passionate about their job their. Spaff and Siobahn showed me around and introduced me to pretty much everyone in the company while chatting them up here and there (Mark Healy, Kareem Ettouney, Alex Evans, Kenny, Michelle, Martin, Rex, Francis, Tom_Mole... err Tom, David, Daisy, etc. I apologize for everyone else I didn't mention).

I also saw more than I should have, so I have full confidence in saying that there is definitely some pretty awesome stuff on the way. They're all working hard on LBP's future so be assured that things are coming.

I also gave them this for not only thanks, but to get them thinking about specific future DLC...

Thankfully, they all liked it.

All in all, meeting them in person really puts into perspective all the stuff they've accomplished with such a small studio. Not only are they passionate about their jobs and their work, they really are a fun community. I'd definitely love to visit them again in the future whenever I'm in town.

(Alex Evans, me, and Spaff)

And Spaff, we're going to have to pre check our wardrobes next time before we meet up, lol.

Excellent stuff! I'm really pleased you got to visit Mm on during your trip - sounds like you had a blast.

I was lucky enough to meet up with johnee on a recent holiday, and it was great. It's amazing how enthusiastic and excited Mm are about LBP and the LBP community. (Funny how both you and I end up in the pub with johnee - I sense a pattern here! lol).

Good stuff, see you soon

Haha, well played, great idea to stop by and see the studio. It goes without saying that those guys are just amazing to have taken the time to just hang out and even show you some top secret black dossier material.

I'm with everyone else here - jealously sharpening my blade!

thanks for saying something so nice. I have been terrified of planes since I saw a movie about a plane crash when I was a kid. Now I shake if I even go near an airport.

Although... syroc is right. I guess I could take a boat, as I'm not afraid of them. hmm...

Anyway, I am also excited about the fact that donkeyshow "saw more than he was should have". While I'm not sure I know what he means, i doubt he would have posted it if it weren't something rather exciting! ^_^

But you can't just automatically be friends with Sony if you make a cool level, how did it all happen?

Guys, I know we're all interested in what donkey show (gevurah22) saw, but let's not pressure him into telling us anything.

Visitors to Mm usually have to sign a non-disclosure agreement, promising they won't divulge to anyone whatever they saw or did. So, yes, it's nice to talk about it and speculate, but let's not spoil any surprises.

Yeah but at the time he was really ahead of other people and his level got caugh in internet fame. This enough for him to really get noticed.
This phenomenon simply doesn't really happen anymore. He just at the right place at the right time while being talented.

Well, like RangerZero said, it was basically being at the right place in the right time. On top of working with them with GOTY and other random stuff throughout the year... yup that's pretty much it. It's all about the connections at the most and the people I've met at Sony so far have been great to know.

I love talking and getting to know people. =)

Seriously though, just keep asking and you never know (just don't think it's expected though). Just remember they get a ton of e-mails everyday, so cross fingers.

I'll kill to have an NDA.
That's incredible that I missed this thread for 4 days...because I was honestly waitin' for it
Anyway, obviously I feel a little jealous, but I'm happy since you really deserve your spot.
People has even forgot to mention that you were in some show like SanDiego Comicon to show people how LBP works.
I own a shop, I have contact with sturdy people everyday, and I know how hard it is
And I'm pleased that you brought good news for us, even if undisclosed.
