Anyone getting (or already have) the PSP go?

Archive: 28 posts

I got it the day it came out, and already have fallen in love with it. It came with a Rock Band: Unplugged *Lite version* voucher code, a $20 PSN gift card, and a code that will unlock an extra character skin for Uncharted 2! I have a few PS1 classics, God of War, and a few others on it already. These games will keep me busy until LBP comes out for PSP, which I think is October 31 in the U.S. Oh and I'm also a little disappointed and shocked that LBP PSP won't have multiplayer due to the fact that the full physics engine wouldn't be able to run properly. I'm praying for Media Molecule to find a way to get around this, because multiplayer is essencial for my LBP gameplay.

Anyway, I absolutely LOVE the PSP go.

I'm getting it for my birthday (18/10) and have just this minute agreed to split the price with my parents.2009-10-02 16:25:00

Congrats, ARD, hope you like it
And let me wish you an early happy birthday! How old are you going to be now?

And to springs, that stinks... Take this from me personally - NEVER, give in to whatever other people say. Listen to facts, not opinions. Research the stuff. You do what you want.

I was going to get one but then i decided to save myself the effort and money and just stick with my old psp

I desperately need a new memory card for it though if i'm keeping it, 500mb is nowhere near enough xD

Thanks I'll be 15.
I've had my PSP Phat (1000) for 3 years now, and while I have dismissed the other models as a load of pointless crap, I have to admit when I saw that leaked video I wanted one
The nub on my PSP is dead anyway, but I'll still use it since it's hacked.
I'm interested in the PSPgo-exclusive stuff as well, that pause game feature looks really useful, wish the PS3 could do that, the in-game XMB is a bit limited

I dont play my ?200 1gb psp 1000 enough to justify a ?225 go that isn't compatible with my existing softwate and the digital software is overpriced compared to retail.2009-10-02 17:05:00

I've bought all 3 previous PSP models, I don't have any interest in the go. I kept my launch 1000 (but it's collecting dust)...gave the 2000 to a friend, and use my PSP 3000 w/16 gb memstick all the time.

I can see the go being apealing if you don't currently own a PSP/have an existing UMD library...and if it cost the same as the 3000. I couldn't see getting a go at launch because of the price...for the money the 3000 is the better value.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to control the camera in Monster Hunter with the go's button layout...it "looks" like it could be awkward, but I've yet to hold one.

The best thing about the release of the go was the influx of PSP games on PSN, I'll be playing Thexder NEO tonight. So while the go is interesting/new I just don't see a compelling reason to change from the 3000.

I wont be getting it anytime soon. PSPgo looks kinda ugly and too small for me. They shoulda release the PSP3000 again with 2 nubs with click. Seems really pointless as you can download games on the PSP30002009-10-03 12:30:00

thing is, it's about portable gaming.
the PSPgo fits nicely in my pocket while the 3000 is a giant in it.

indeed, it's called a Playstation PORTABLE, not a Playstation-Stick-Out-Miles-In-My-Pocket.

So...I've heard the controls take a bit of getting used to, what would you say, sir?2009-10-03 13:37:00

I didn't find them too different, but I had to get used to the positioning of the stick.
it's all fine now, a bit more comfortable then the other models IMO.

I'm fine with the slider design. Makes it easier to carry without an annoying case. But the button layout is really stupid on the PSPgo, the volume button is hidden behind the screen and it lacks a second analogue with click.

Should be something like this maybe(found a mock up online):
http://playstationfever.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/playstation-portable-2.jpg

But with these functions:

.volume control should be a slider and be located on the left of the console, horizontally opposite of the on/off slider

.analogue nubs need click(L3 and R3)

.the on/off slider shouldn't have a hold function(it's too fiddly)

.it needs R1 and L1 buttons identical to the PSPgos but sturdier(they wrap-around the console like the PS3 control which is cool and makes it slightly less chunky)

.the design needs to be rounded more(similar to the PSPgo) but bigger, so the control layout isn't cramped(the control layout in the mockup isn't cramped and is similar to a PS3 controller). There should also be a silver highlight around the bottom section so it looks nice(like how there's a silver highlight around the top screen)

.they should ditch the screen brightness and the musical note buttons. They're pointless and take up space

I really don't see why you would choose a PSPgo over the last PSP apart from the size maybe. The old one costs ?100 less and over the same functionalities plus you can play or buy old PSP games used and sell your games once you are done with them.2009-10-03 17:31:00

I didn't really had to pay anything lol, I sold my old one for 150? and my collection of 35 PSP games for 5? each.
now I got spare money to buy a PS3 game with

See that doesn't sound like a good deal to me though... you've got the same functionality of the other PSP, but you're down 35 games, and up on 1 PS3 game. And it is a download only system.

Don't get me wrong, I personally really want one of these little wonders, but the fact that it's so expensive, and my old games become useless just put me off it so much. Trading in is what keeps my gaming life going, as otherwise I find it difficult to afford games. But with no other option than to buy off the PSN, it's just not a wise choice. Also, ergonomically the system is not as comfortable many seem to say.
Plus... why didn't they add the second analogue nub?? There is a perfect little place for it where start and select are (move start and select above the analogue sticks then). Oh well.

Looks and size wise the PSPGo is perfect. But what they've sacrificed for it is not worth it.

I still recommend the PSP 2000 to anyone who asks.

Plus... PSP Go probably not hackable.... *google's it just in case*

that doesn't matter to me, I still got my collection of downloaded games (~10) and I mainly use my PSP for pictures and movies, so yeah.2009-10-03 18:09:00

Yeah that's fair enough. It's not like I'd play half my PSP games if I still had them. I did have PSP 2000 but sold it to be able to afford a present for my gf's 18th. I was always planning on buying a new one, but still can't decide if I want the PSP Go. Well, price wise, not now. Maybe at xmas. I still have my MGSO UMD (imported from america so can't trade in) and not being able to play that would suck.

Sigh... if it was cheaper I'd probably just buy it tbh. But I'm also worried about comfort. How is it? having a little wall agains't L1 and R1 would seem like a pain.

I received my new USED psp (1004 model) yesterday and hacked the bleep out of it. Ad hoc function was broken on my first psp. HOWEVER now that I have ad-hoc again I'm prepared for peace walker. The old psp didn't sync with my ps3 either but this one apparently works fine with remote viewing. I guess ad-hoc party too if only they'd release it. Might just grab the japanese beta.2009-10-04 12:04:00
