Capture Object bug

Archive: 15 posts

When I capture an object, it appears in the My Objects tab. But when I then rename the object, it is placed in Community Objects. This didn't happen before.

How do I get rid of this bug?

I don't have this issue, does it happen with every object you capture?2009-10-02 11:26:00

Yes. And since then, i've been noticing a lot of other bugs.

For example, when I save my level, i have to wait about two minutes before editing or playing it again, otherwise i get 'failed to load level'.

And, all the objects I made and have captured, are starting to disappear. Their thumbnails go empty and when I click on them it gives a ! sign.

For some reason, everything i'm creating is being deleted by bugs.
This has started today, after I downloaded LBP 1.19.

I haven't downloaded it yet, which might explain why mine works fine. I'll have to check it out later today.

NOO!!!! I just restarted LBP, and I lost the entire level I just created. It was my best yet, in my opinion. Everything I did when I started up LBP in the morning has been deleted and replaced with how it was before. For example, I deleted a lot of my levels.. they're all back now.2009-10-02 11:41:00

Did you:

a) Shut the console off from the back?

or

b) Exit out of the game before the icon in the bottom left corner had disappeared?

Doing either of those things would cause that.

No. I always shut down my PS3 by holding the power button on the front. I didn't pay attention to the bottom left icon, though, so maybe that would be it.

But I think this is a different bug. When I started up LBP in the morning, all my objects had gone to community objects, and all my hearted items were gone. When the game was in that state, I created my level. After that, I quit out of LBP and logged back in because I thought it might solve the bugs... Yes, it did solve the bugs.. but it destroyed everything I made as well. All the hearted items are back, and the objects are back in My Objects... But nothing to be seen of what I did. It's like the server didn't store my changes.

So you're saying you published your levels as a precaution? By the way you're describing the situation, it looks like you didn't publish your level at all.

No, I didn't say I published my level as a precaution. But I meant the local data wasn't in sync with the data on the server - I was building stuff, and captured objects disappeared after a while. Levels kept getting the 'failed to load' error every time I saved it, and after about 2 minutes I had access to my level again. And all my settings (hearted items, My Objects) were gone. All this was reset to normal when I quit out of LBP and logged back in. All my hearted items were back, and so were My Objects. And the level I made, was gone.

---

About that level.. I have rebuilt it, and added a lot of new stuff to it. Here: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=17226

This happens to a lot of my costumes and objects as well, I have no idea why. But all it means is that the file is corrupted and cannot be opened, so basically it's useless. I'm not sure what causes this, but I'm sure they'll be an answer to this in the future. It can be really irritating when you have like, 80 costumes and half of them go corrupted, as well as objects that took a while to make. All I can say to help you is to save two or possibly three of the same object, so that if one or two of them turn corrupted you will have a backup. The only downside to this is that it takes up more space, and over time it will become very unorganized and look like a mess.

Jeez, the casualities aren't slowing down.

It's like we need a forum section or a message following your mouse movement (lol) telling people to BACK UP THEIR STUFF.

LBP is a festival of bugs. I'm sad everytime I see a thread like this.

I'm huge on preaching the need to backup, but sometimes it just doesn't work. The only true backup is onto MediaMolecule's servers. I backed up my data to a USB drive every hour of working on a level, and when there was a power outage, my USB drive was fried and I lost everything except my online levels. All I had left to work with was a save backed up onto my computer from December. So my advice is to backup to the internet, whether it be by uploading a level locked, or by uploading it to some file sharing site and keeping it locked up there. I found out the hard way that simple save data backup just isn't enough.
