Leonardo da Stickerist ~ Art Contest ~ Round II (OVER)
Archive: 77 posts
Stickers can really change a level, they can make it look much more realistic, or give it a cartoonish feel. Take AntonioLadrillo for example, he uses stickers on almost all his levels, and it gives them a unique style that really tells you he made it. So, to show what awesomeness can be made with stickers, I decided to make this contest. Create art with the many stickers at your disposal, and try to bring out interesting and unique art. Without further ado, I present to you... Leonardo da Stickerist! Rules: 1. No decorations! Only stickers! 2. The only tools you can is the sticker placer, and the selector so you can delete unwanted stickers. 3. The picture must be on a piece of cardboard. You can choose whatever size it is, but it has to be cardboard, and nothing else! 4. Stay to theme! Every round will have a theme, so stick to it, and don't make something completely off-theme! 5. Only two entries per round, and you can only win once a round. Also, if you win a round, you cannot win the next round, but you can still participate just for fun. 6. Judges can enter the contest, but they cannot win. 7. Post a picture in this thread when you are done! 8. No custom stickers, just the ones MM gave you. 9. Name your file right. I shall post what the file should be called, which will make posting the pictures on this post much easier, and quicker. (Most of the time it will be: lds(Theme name)(Your exact forum name) ) Judges: 1. Cog 2. dajdaj03 3. goldenclaw13 Prizes: 1st: 400xp 2nd: 250xp 3rd: 150xp Round II Theme: HALLOWEEN Halloweens just round the bend, so what better way to celebrate than make art! Ta Da! I have managed to produce 2 entries : ) The first is called: "Despite his tough guy image, Stevo always had trouble with his imagination on October 31" or "Tough Guy Stevo" http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=718&pictureid=7273 As usual (as in 'like last time&apos I have taken details as well as you lose so much of it in those smidgy little photos... I'll have to edit them in though. I'd love to see details of some of the other entries - you can barely make some of them out : ( http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=718&pictureid=7269 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=718&pictureid=7272 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=718&pictureid=7270 My second entry is... self explanatory, I hope. It's just for a laugh, really. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=718&pictureid=7268 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=718&pictureid=7271 I hit my sticker limit with both pics. Very nice job Babydoll! Come on guys, 6 days left ... show us your art skills! | 2009-10-09 19:21:00 Author: dajdaj03 Posts: 1486 |
I think I understand the concept so just in case.. No custom stickers at all, but whatever stickers (not decorations) you have from Mm are fine. At least that is what I did!! This took awhile since I had to do it 2 1/2 times! Once because I hit the sticker limit and decided to recreate from scratch. Second time because my silly profile didn't save and lost everything. ...then another half because I changed my mind on some things! LOL! Background Story Basically the gang went trick or treating and upset this grumpy tree ent by wanting to carve up his prized pumpkin for the halloween parade. I heard he got a bit upset... http://www.jwwwebdesign.com/photos/LBP/stickerContest/R2/A%20Photo_33.jpg Main pic ..and some detail shots http://www.jwwwebdesign.com/photos/LBP/stickerContest/R2/A%20Photo_31.jpg http://www.jwwwebdesign.com/photos/LBP/stickerContest/R2/A%20Photo_29.jpg http://www.jwwwebdesign.com/photos/LBP/stickerContest/R2/A%20Photo_30.jpg | 2009-10-09 21:53:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |

I think he use the "shadow circle" of the realistic stickers...isn't it jwwphotos ? Thanks!! I never tried doing anything like that before at least on something flat. LOL!! Yup.. gradient circle. In fact, that reminds me about something I was meaning to also try. With the time extension I may just do another so I can experiement a bit with an effect I was wanting to try! Thanks again everyone! This was really fun and glad I gave it a try. I am really impressed with the other entries. Awesome work! this contest sounds awesome, but when ppl make there own stickers, they use objects to make it, then take a picture of it...so i think u should allow that. | 2009-10-10 22:37:00 Author: ViDi--ViCi Posts: 123 |
this contest sounds awesome, but when ppl make there own stickers, they use objects to make it, then take a picture of it...so i think u should allow that. I'm not sure what you exactly mean by that.... The rule here is to create a picture just using the LBP stickers (of any pack) and that makes the game more interesting as people must find original ways to use those stickers to achieve what they have in mind. Using custom stickers is not allowed (I think so...Cog...confirmation? ) | 2009-10-10 22:58:00 Author: dajdaj03 Posts: 1486 |

Ok I've got an image for this round. . . and an alternate version of the same image. I don't know if having an alternate version of the same image would count as my second image but I know I can't win anything this round anyways so don't be too suprised if I make another halloween image and post it here http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=735&pictureid=7504 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=735&pictureid=7503 Also I just gotta say, great images guys. I'm having a really hard time getting mine to come out looking clear. No matter what, they're all washed-out looking, as if there's fog and I'm zoomed out. I've got zero fog in the level, and I shrunk my canvas down so I can take the screenshot in close-up. Full daytime lighting, no darkness. What gives? Is there some trick to getting these to come out so clear? | 2009-10-11 02:19:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

Is there some trick to getting these to come out so clear? Not sure.. How foggy is it in front of your tv? LOL! If you have the creator camera zoomed out too much the light will freak and frizz out a bit. For mine the lights were either totally out (almost all out on the 2nd one), no fog and no darkness on a blank level. I made the carboard pretty huge, but not too huge that I could not be in a bit (maybe like in a third?) and cover the whole thing in one shot. Ok I've got an image for this round. . . and an alternate version of the same image. Great entries squirlin and jwwphotos! Really well done! Teebonesy, strange problem... The PS3 photos are always a little washed-out, not very bright, and this no matter what you do... (white looks grey for example) Is it really that bad? Do you use the light blue background color? (not the black...) | 2009-10-11 03:05:00 Author: dajdaj03 Posts: 1486 |
After screwing around some, I couldn't get to the bottom of it - my blacks were looking like a milky dark grey. So I put up some fairy lights, 4 in all, at each corner of the canvas. Seems to have taken care of things. EDIT: Just saw your message, dajdasj. I was, in fact using the blue background. didn't think of changing the fog color (as I had fog amount at zero) - but I bet you anything this was the cause. For future contests of this sort, I'd include a detailed "how to" in the rules so everyone turns in the same quality - ie, full day, zero darkness, zero fog, black fog color, no lighting. Anyway, onto the sticker-job, I realize I need to name this: They Only Come Out at Twilight - A small town is perched upon the bluffs over an inky valley where they pour their pollution and refuse, drawing the nightly attention of the things that live in the moon... http://imgur.com/Wg8nm.jpg http://imgur.com/CFBet.jpg (adjusted version, minus fairly lights, plus black background) http://imgur.com/GtdDg.jpg | 2009-10-11 03:10:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

Haha thanks, but I don't think it will be that popular! Man this thread is growing quickly... I'll add all the entries onto the main post tomorrow! This is going to be another hard to judge round D: | 2009-10-11 08:13:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |
Ok I must say I was extatic when I saw this contest!!!! I luv stickers!!!!!! So here is my first entry and I may or may not make another cuz this one took three hours to make... Im not kidding. At first glance you probably think that there is no way it was done without custom stickers... I know... Im a genious lol. But thats exactly why such a simple pic took so long to make... I had to redo the main tower of rock SIX TIMES.... omg... also I am still using ps3 and pda due to my comp still not yet fixed so Im sorry for the small crappy thum nail(just figured out how to post enlarged pic..yay me!!) but its worth a zoom in if I do say so myself lol.... anyway here is "Sackula's Castle"..... BTW the Ss do not show up well but what ev lol. :eek:BOO!!!!! lol. Happy all hallow's eve everyone... um early. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=875&pictureid=7534 | 2009-10-11 16:08:00 Author: tru3_skitz0 Posts: 114 |

BTW the Ss do not show up well but what ev lol. Very cool - but you should also upload a "detail" picture of the castle up close so we can see all that went into it! Also, I spent some time last night starting an actual level-version of the town in my sticker entry - it's not something I'm likely to make a real level out of, I just prefer building the town, sort of like a "diarama". If i can make some decent cameras to show off the whole thing, I'll upload it! | 2009-10-11 21:28:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Unfortunately I didn't save the level I made it in cuz my profile is maxed out. But I started a blog that I will update describing how a made it. I can tell you that aside from the letters there are only 12 stickers total pasted in layers to create all the effects I acheived. Glad you like it tho and I would love to ur recreation of the pic u posted when ever u get it finished... I reallly liked ur little town very Tim Burtonesque!!! | 2009-10-11 21:54:00 Author: tru3_skitz0 Posts: 114 |
I reallly liked ur little town very Tim Burtonesque!!! Thank you! Although to be honest I'm not much of a Tim Burton fan - I'd call it Theodor Geisel (http://www.amazon.com/b/qid=1255302680/ref=sr_tc_2_1?ie=UTF8&node=184939)-esque! | 2009-10-12 00:12:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

you can actually upload the pics to your profile from your ps3 mat! Just upload from the game to your hard-drive, then log on to the site via your ps3 and ad pic to your album! | 2009-10-14 17:50:00 Author: squirlin Posts: 224 |

Some seriously cool artwork here guys. Well done. Thes would make great backgrounds to levels I think. | 2009-10-21 18:07:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
Hey, thanks, Morgana & wex... assuming you're including mine in that general congratulations - and if not, thanks anyway for checking out the 'exhibition'. Anyhow, jwwphotos... how do you get your images so clear? There's such a difference in the depth of colour in yours so it has to be the shot as we're all using the same stickers. | 2009-10-21 22:01:00 Author: BabyDoll1970 Posts: 1567 |
Anyhow, jwwphotos... how do you get your images so clear? There's such a difference in the depth of colour in yours so it has to be the shot as we're all using the same stickers. LOL!! thanks! I have played with it a ton when doing custom stickers for my levels so I have done quite a bit of experimenting which seems to have paid off !! I think the size of the cardboard (smaller rather than larger) is key as well as not being too far away with your sackboy as the room lights get "cloudy" as well as being able to not have the camera so wide. I think the camera works best somewhat half zoomed in rather than out all the way as the room adds atmosphere so to speak as well as more sticker detail per pixel. (or whatever you consider the camera in LBP having!) Also, I had the room lights all the way down and NO darkness on. Though on the 2nd entry I did I had just a touch of room lights on so I could find the edge of the cardboard. ..and of course the editor set to front view rather than game view. Hope this helps! | 2009-10-21 22:35:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
