The "How To Make Your Level Look Good" Video Series

Archive: 35 posts

I just thought I'd advertise my tutorial series...

I'll update this post whenever there's a new one. (I can do that on this site, right?)

Anyway, I've started a video series on how to make good looking levels. There is only 1 (This number may be edited at any time.) video so far. My main focus throughout the whole series will be the corner editing tool. (And knowing when to use the grid.)

If you'd like to subscribe, here (http://www.youtube.com/user/KlawwTheClown) is my channel page. (Only subscribe if you want to. Subscriptions aren't rewards.)

Episode one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saYALQwqGvU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saYALQwqGvU
PS. Hah! This hasn't been posted before! Mah thread won't get locked!! (I hope...)

EDIT: Wow, it took forever for me to get the video LINK there. I kept embedding it by accident, so now you have to copy and paste the URL.

EDIT 2: I edited the post using the new Youtube BB tags.

It might make the flow better to make the video without typing in everything as you do it. The player can clearly see what you are doing. If you need to specify something, then you can go back and edit in the text over top the video.

I only say that because in 10 minutes all you managed to make was a hill... :/

... but a very nice hill.

That made me laugh a little.

Oh and @CompherMC:

The next one won't have so much text. And background music.

The reason I typed so much, was... Well look at Xzollox's comment...

I'll be making another one once I find the remote for my DVD Recorder...

I very well knew that the corner editing tool was extremely important. But, the part when you made the giant block of glass fit into the space, I was thinking, 'why didn't I think of that?'...yeah, I know. Anyway, I think the hill and scenery was very pretty-like. That was what you were aiming for, right? I mean, the level will have to look good, right? Anyway, I was hoping you would be able to show how to make the front thin layer look pretty and conceal somethings not meant for the 4 year old's eye... no offense if you are 4, are you? I certainly hope not.2009-10-02 21:34:00

My next one's probably gonna be helping with caves. (Lighting, and whatnot...)

I found my DVD Recorder's remote! (Success!!)

I'll probably record the next one soon. I've just gotta figure out a better video editor...

I used Windows Movie Maker for the first one, and look what it did to the quality!

It'd be good if it could save them as MP4s, or even better, to read .VOB files...

Great! just you need subtitles...
By the way, you could just use your voice if you are recording with a video camera.

By the way, what are you using to record?

And that would be why I'm trying to find a good video editor.

Nope, I'm not. And I don't want to use my voice... (Itz mah identity!)

This. (http://www.amazon.com/LG-LRA-850-Multi-Format-Recorder/dp/B002BU3JGY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1250481981&sr=1-1) (Let's pretend that link is green.*)

Thanks for the cookie *omnomnomnom* Yummy!
Caves would be really useful to my new project as well as forests!

Hey, I wonder if I could help you out with these videos once online create comes out. I'm pretty good at making things like bridges and castles. I can also make some pretty cool character mechanics like making them jump and such.

Maybe I could play some kind of 'dumb' person who doesn't know anything about creating in LBP and I could ask questions which you could answer! That would be kinda funny.

Thanks!

The corner-editing tool is THE key to creating geometric shapes and level geography in LittleBigPlanet. Using only the cut-out shapes will keep your levels looking amateur. Sadly, it is one of the most overlooked tools.2009-10-22 11:50:00

I'll record the next one soon...

It took me forever to find my DVDR Remote. (Well, it's better than a camcorder.)

And yes. I was thinking that I could have guests on videos when OC comes out.

I'm gonna need to put music on my PS3, to play while I'm doing the next tutorial, though. (A friend's comment.)

Probably something from that LBP-inspired album...

I also have to think of every single thing I'm gonna put in the cave tutorial. (I recorded it before, but I made tons of mistakes...)

Any ideas? I know I'll have lighting, land shape, and a few cool little effects...

...Yea...

I know.

I'll try to have waaaay less talking in the next one.

I also just noticed that my first one has 1700 views!!

I was not expecting that. Pleasant surprise for me.

When OC comes out, I gotta get Jackofcourse or someone into create mode with me for a tutorial. (Unless he wouldn't want to.)

Oh, and I'm glad people actually liked it. I pulled an all nighter the night before I made the video, and it was 8:30 or so in the morning.

Well I like what your trying to accomplish but in my opinion the way a level looks is to the player's opinion. Its kind of weird to say "This is how to make your level look good" when some people don't like that style.

Although I'm not trying to say anything against you. The techniques you use are what I've started using myself.

And don't let what I've said stop you. I honestly want to see more. Just, please, no more typing while working xD Got a microphone?

I know. I'm pretty much trying to subliminally plant certain tricks into their heads. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

But seriously, I'm basically just trying to teach people how to get certain looks, and let them decide how to make it better.

I saw a few comments about when I used the corner editing tool to put a hazard into the floor. (Yayz, that's what I wanted!)

Oh, and I do have a mic... But I sound horrible...

I'll try to get a video editor running, so I can add captions. (Windows movie maker messes up my quality...)

you need to make a new one soon coz i loved the 1st one and it was a good hill(it look good though, which is what the vid is about, making it look good).2010-11-30 19:33:00

Old thread is old.

Anyway, I'll make another one once my DVD Recorder starts working again. Dang thing freezes my brother's computer every time I try making another one.

The next one would probably be in LBP2 though. Or LBP3 at the rate it's taking me to fix my DVDR...

Plus, video editing subtitles so no speech, and it'll be a collection of tips. That once seemed kinda... Dictate-y.

Plus, it was thermo heavy.

And I'll end up starting a new, better series instead. Maybe one video for each style of level...? (Wood, storybook, realistic, tech, etc...)

You can use either Sony Vegas Pro, but people are complaining that it messes the sound of the recording, wat about Windows Movie Maker, if your using a Dazzle use Pinnacle Studio 14.

I'll be making gameplay videos soon, very soooooon! STUPID EXAMS!

Wow, I forgot I even posted this tutorial on here.

Yeah, I took all of my videos down since most of them were so simple that they were mostly just common sense.

The "How to Make Your Level Look Good" video was deleted because I couldn't continue it, since my recorder stopped working, and it was from 2 or 3 years ago... I wasn't very good at creating back then. It was basically just one material for the lower ground, and one for the surface, and a bit of corner editing stuff. Back then I used to just smear circles for stuff, though.

Maybe if I ever get better recording stuff I can try to make a better video. One that doesn't make you wait 20 seconds for me to type the instructions in the chat box.
