?Having slid off the road during a scenic drive through remote mountains you find an ?abandoned? house to take shelter in until morning.?

Spook House is an eerie puzzle/treasure collection level with a minor plot which is turning into a pretty good story. It makes much use of all three planes (forward, middle and back) to progress through the game. The path is far from being just left to right. It is mainly designed for single player play. It contains over 33 collectable items.

I am currently working on the next in the series... Spook House: The Cellar. As I work on The Cellar I am tweeking whole story arc which means I have been and will be revising Spook House so that the whole series will be a complete story. I am also going back and changing things in the original level as I find and discover better ways of accomplishing things I tried to incorporate into Spook House. Each level in the series builds on the story line in the previous level. The completed series will be Spook House; Spook House: The Cellar; and finally Spook House: The Mausoleum. I am hoping to have the Cellar completed by November 20. The completion date of the third level of the trilogy is up in the air... but I assume will be shortly after The Cellar as I am fiddling with ideas and making prototypes of the contents as I am working on the second. Hopefully... Spook House won't turn into a Rose Red... but it does seem to be reinventing and adding onto itself daily.

I keep tweeking it every few days. So keep checking back.

I am very much wanting feedback about this lbp level. I will F4F if you'd like. Your critique/feedback is greatly welcomed as I will use it in making future levels.

Thanks,
enodrawkcab

Since this is a puzzle game I've included a walkthrough below just incase you get stuck.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!! Warning: Spoiler Alert !!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
below you will find the walkthrough

Walkthrough
Outside
? Read two thought bubbles. These set the stage for the level.
? At the beginning after you get on first snow drift just walk don't jump to the back of the drift (third plane) and then walk or run toward right screen.
? When the wolf pack starts pursuit keep ahead of them. If they get ahead of you run back near the beginning and they will follow you back.
First Floor First Room
Note the following clues from thought bubbles.
? Set of books on book shelf missing one volume.
? Strange slot in wall near floor.
Second Floor Upstairs.
? To the right you?ll find a door with thought bubble telling you it's locked.
? To the left you find
o a self-opening and closing trunk with a prize bubble inside.
o A four poster bed with a springy mattress. Jump on the bed using the bench beside the bed. Time your jumps to get to the high shelf.
High Shelf
? Collect the bubbles. Jump from shelf and grab sponge suspended by rope from the ceiling until ramp to third floor is pulled down.

Third Floor First Room
? Grab key and drag it to locked door on second floor. Door disappears allowing you onto the second floor balcony.
Second Floor Balcony
? Run quickly to right of screen (balcony floor disappears) till you are off the balcony. If you fall off balcony you?ll most likely respawn back at the beginning of balcony. If by chance you land on the table below you?ll be stuck at a dead end, literally. The only way to continue on with the game is walk off the table which will kill you and respawn you at the beginning of the balcony. Note a door has opened which allows you to jump onto some suspended platforms which will allow you to continue across to the far side of the balcony. Again if you fall off the suspended platforms before you get to the far side respawn and try again. An action is required on the far side of the balcony before you will be able to continue onto the next section of the game.
Second Floor Water Closet
? Note the thought bubble which tells you you?ve found the missing volume from the book set and should consider taking it back down to the book case where it belongs.
? Collect the bubbles in tub. If you get stuck on corner of tub respawn.
? Jump on back part of toilet seat and grab and jump off. This will give you bubbles. Don?t forget to look in toilet.
? Push book under sink. Use book as platform to jump on sink and collect prize bubble.
? Push book to left of screen until it falls off balcony.
? Either:
o Jump off balcony near save point onto top of light fixture. Either keep jumping left to collect prize bubbles and or jump down and left to table.
o Jump over rail to suspended platform then down onto light fixtures either collect prize bubbles and or jump down and left to table.
Grand Dining Room
? Note the bottle of spirits and glass on serving tray on table.
? Go to left of screen till get a thought bubble informing you the restless old grey ghost who is yearning for his evening libation.
? Pull/push the tray over to the restless grey ghost. Ghost and floor hazard will disappear.
? Jump off table. Collect prize bubbles. Note the strange slot in wall near floor in wall toward left of screen.
? Go toward right screen find book you pushed off balcony. Push book left until you get it through the slot in the wall.
? Go up the stairs and onto the balcony that overlooks the
First Floor First Room.
? Jump down on top of the hearth collect bubbles.
? Jump over to top of bookshelf collect bubbles.
? Go toward right of screen find book you pushed through slot and drag it over near the bookcase. Bookcase will move revealing a hidden room with a switch.
? Pull lever down. Fire Hazard in fireplace disappears.
? Walk down into fireplace. You are shot up the chimney to rooftop walkway. You want to land either just left or right of the chimney. Too far right will land you on a hazard.
Rooftop walkway.
? Walk left until you activate save point.
? Walk right avoiding buzzard hazards and collecting bubbles.
Slanted Rooftop Climb.
? Activate save point.
? Keep L1 pushed up and to right while jumping. This is tricky. If you keep getting caught on small platform near chimney try walking toward the front plan on the roof ridge and jumping.
? Near top time your jump over crest of roof to avoid hazard. You will slide down right side of roof into Second Floor Far Right Room.

Second Floor Far Right Room
? Walk left activating save point. A thought bubble tells you that you?ve changed your mind about spending the night in this house.
? Continue left collecting prize bubbles. See disappearing black cat near far left wall.
? Head back right toward glass stairwell.
Glass Stairwell.
? Collect prize bubbles in stairwell. At bottom of stairwell a thought bubble directs you to a snowmobile that is parked outside the house.
? Continue left into Piano Room.
Piano Room
? Jump onto and into piano through top. Collect bubbles. Jump out of piano through front swinging piano top door.
? Proceed down stairs into Kitchen. Stairs disappear removing your way back up.
Kitchen
? Thought bubble directs your attention to a picture frame that has no picture.
? Head right. Jump on iron stove shelf, careful to avoid the hazard. Jump onto table and then onto shelves collecting prize bubbles.
? Jump off of top shelf back to floor. Head left.
? You note there seems to be someone in the fireplace but you can?t get to them.
? To the far left you will note another locked wooden door however a thought bubble tells you that something other than a key is required to open it.
? When the elevator comes down jump into the service elevator which will take you up to the Storage room. If you jump into the service elevator before it is all the way down you will get stuck and be forced to respawn. Fortunately there is a respawn point at the bottom of the Kitchen?s stairwell.
Storage Room
? This room is full of self levitating and moving crates. Avoid the obstacles and collect the prize bubbles as well as the sticker switch sticker in the far left of the room. Head back down the service elevator to the Kitchen.
Kitchen
? Place sticker switch sticker on empty picture frame. Door opens up to Grand Dining Room.
Grand Dining Room
? Note the wine rack has moved away from the wall revealing a hidden passageway that leads to where the person is in the Fire Place. Head east through the passage into Fireplace.
Fireplace
? Collect prize bubbles. You may have to jump over the ghost in the fireplace to collect all of them. A thought bubble from the ghost tells you not to be afraid but to grab her hand. Grab onto ghost? you are whisked up the chimney. Let go when you stop in the Lower Attic.
Far Right Attic
? Head right where you will find a self moving Rocking Chair and what appears to be another volume. Hey, wasn't there only one volume missing from the set of books downstairs? You might want to be careful picking this one up. Collect prize bubble behind rocking chair.
? Head right to wheel chair. Jump on back of wheel chair grabbing high on the back of the chair. Its important to grab high on the back of the wheel chair otherwise the wheels will just spin and not move the chair. The wheel chair will carry you over the Hazard to the Far Left Attic.
Far Left Attic
? Jump and grab high on the right side of the suspended crib. Swing the crib back and forth until you get high enough to jump on the shelf to the right.
? Jump from shelf to shelf. On the shelf that has a item bubble make sure you move to the left edge of the shelf before jumping onto the next shelf, otherwise when you jump you will hit your head on the slanted roof and miss the jump. Keep heading up till you get to Upper Attic.
Upper Attic
? Collect prize bubble. A thought bubble tells you there is no place else to go but down. Follow arrow down into shoot.
Crawl Space
? Head right avoiding the spider hazards. Collect prize bubbles. Keep heading right till you get to The End?.

The End?
? You will find two of the ghosts you met earlier. Read the three thought bubbles. They will explain that you can?t exit the house from the crawlspace. There is however, an exit to the outside from The Mausoleum but you have to go through The Cellar in order to get to the Mausoleum. They also inform you that you are welcome to wait with your snowmobile buddy (a pile of bones on the floor) for those two new levels to be made.

Thanks. I tweaked it some more last night and republished. I tweaked it again this morning before work with some things that came to me during the night but unfortunately the lbp server was being disagreeable and I wasn't able to upload the stuff I added this morning. Hopefully when I get home tonight I be able to republish the new material.

BTW I added F4F. lol, it took me a couple of days to figure out what F4F stood for. lol duh.

I'll try and check out this level later. By the way, can you put the walkthrough in spoiler tags so we don't accidentally "solve" a puzzle?2009-10-03 17:22:00

I found the level, theres a comment on my Siberia Pt.1 that you can follow.

OK, I played it, heres my thoughts.

+ I liked the start, with the car in the snow.
+ The house looks great, good materials and lighting.
+ Great detail the house, the candle sticks, bookcases, toilet and bath etc.
+ I like the free roaming aspect, going back to other places to solve puzzles.
+ You got some nice puzzles
+ Like the birds on the roof.
+ More nice details
+ Liked the wheelchair idea.

- Where the wolves are at the start, a thin layer to hide the workings (brains, gas, pistons) would make it look a lot smarter
- Prox switch on the the doorway into house is visible.
- Same where you walk into the house, theres a big gap underneath you could hide.
- I'd change the DM window, the house looks great, and thats a little out of place.
- You need a better camera angle on the roof, so you can see the birds coming, especially on top of the sloped roof
- Sound speaker visible on the bird on top of the roof
- The blue gas does'nt fit at the wheelchair section, and theres loads of unstickered dissolve on the roof.
- I was'nt keen on the rising gas just before the end, it looked out of place with the rest of the excellent detail in the level.

What I found were little quibbles, nothing major, the level played really well, and the puzzles were great. I loved all the little details, you've obviously put a lot of time and effort into it, but that just made some areas stand out a little more, like the start and end.

Overall, excellent work, 4* and hearted.

These are my notes as I'm going through it:
-I used the chest to pull down the attic. The key got stuck in it when I was bringing it down and I had a hard time getting it over. I couldn't move the chest because it was between the attic ramp and the attic pull string sponge.
-I liked the toilet. I knew I had a reason to be tempted to open it.
-On the book puzzle, I used momentum to swing the ceiling boards so I could move the book across when they got close enough. It turned out to be unnecessary, but it would make for a cool puzzle idea.
-you left the sound effect thing visible on the last vulture on top of the roof.
-I almost gameovered on the floating chair part. In my opinion, this type of level should be hard because of puzzles without having to worry about dying. There is a chance I would have rage quite if I had lost at that part after playing for quite a while, so an unlimited checkpoint would be appreciated.
-you left the first piston with gas visible in the basement.
-"Your profile cannot be saved because it is too large" Can't say I didn't see this coming.
-Unlike the poster above me, I like to see some switches visible. I think it fits in with the feel of the game really well. You just have to decide on the right ones to keep visible to make it visually appealing.
-You should give names to all your prizes.

Over all I thought it was really good. The puzzles were at the right level, and I never needed your walk through. I liked looking for prizes even though I'll have to delete most of them to be able to save my profile again. Good job and keep up the good work.

Thank you both very much for the comments! I'll try to incorporate your comments this weekend. Its taking a little longer to make the changes than anticipated. Currently fighting the thermostat.

Any ideas why I don't show up when people use search to find me? At first I thought maybe it was a UK/US server thing. Then I discovered I messed up when I created my account here and left out the k in enodrawkcab... I tried to compensate by putting the correct spelling in my sig.

Should I get rid of alot of the collectable prizes? Are there items that just aren't worth keeping?

Also, this is a stupid question. When viewing your levels I noticed that you were able to name your collectable items. How you do that?

Originally I had intended for the chest to be the way to solve the puzzle. Later I came up with a different way to solve the puzzle and decided to animate the chest for effect. I just assumed the chest would still work as an alternate solution. (we all know what happens when we assume) I should have gone back and retested to see if the change in the chest would cause problems. Thanks for pointing that out.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Sometimes when you stare at a project for tool long its easy to overlook the obvious.

As iron sharpens iron so one person sharpens another. Thanks again.

To name objects -

- capture the object
- highlight the object in your popit and press CIRCLE (corrected by GrantosUK )
- you will automatically be on the section that names them so just push x
- name your object

easy

Theres a problem with new users and the search in LBP. Everyone is having the same problem. I've come across it plenty in the last week.

I think pressing triangle deletes the item Morgana, its circle I believe

You've got a cool level here, let me know when the changes are done and I'll have another play. I'm not really bothered about F4F, my last level is more than done now, but I always appreciate plays The siberia series you started is done for example

Keep the prizes. I just pointed out that my save file got to big as somewhat of a joke. You had some good stuff there and trying to find everything was part of the fun of the level. I just wish they would give us more space to save everything.

Yes, this is a bump. Sorry. I am in the process of updating this level before I publish the second chapter of the series. The reason I am updating is to help the flow of the storyarc between the first and second chapter. While I am updating it I'd like to incorporate any recommendations you might have for this level. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.2009-11-12 21:31:00
