HDD problemo!

Archive: 3 posts

Computer techs I need your helps!

I have a Buffalo 500GB External Hard Disk and it's acting REALLY werid lately.

When I start up computer with my External HD plug in I get an error saying "Could not find device/hardsik2/DR7" "Contine, Retry, Cancel"

I normally just click continue and it gets me to my computer log in screen.

But now I'm getting this message while on the desktop as well. And my HDD is making funny noises.
When ever i try and run or open something from it, it takes for ever (never used to do this)
When I open up a game that's installed on it, it freezes for 5 minutes, and my HDD makes some more weird sounds and then the game is back to normal.

My HDD doesn't show in my device safety removal either.

Have i broken my HDD? I have alot of important stuff in here, so I want to back it up before it goes dead (I'd need to buy another HDD though :'( )

I've had this External HDD only for 6 months, I since I'm over-seas warranty doesn't seem to work.

Is there a way of fixing this!? Help!

Doubtful that you can fix it. Definitely sounds as if it's dying. I'd recommend just picking up another HDD and start pulling stuff off. Tough luck, man.2009-10-02 17:31:00

I know this isn't recommended for a beignner, but I'm gonna try it anyway.
I'm going to attempt to fix my HDD!

I actually got another HDD that fails on me. I think it's a Track 0 Failure.
Does anyone know any tips on fixing a Track 0 Failure on a HDD? I don't really want to use the "Freezing the valves" technique because that wouldn't help me in any way when I'm fixing my more important HDD that's currently broken.
