WATCHMEN COSTUME PACK - a breakdown

Archive: 5 posts

Well it's 1:30 a.m. here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada... and I decided to move my TV into my room as my roomate has been spending far too much time complaining that he wants to watch TV every time I fire up LBP to create some wonderful little contraptions. Well I decided to check my connection and hit the store... and for some strange reason the Playstation store has already updated. This is odd as we usually don't update until late in the evening on Thursdays.

Anyways, the Watchmen pack was up and I decided to drop the seven bucks for it as I am a bit of a costume nut. Overall, I have to say I'm really pleased with this pack... aside from Mm's lack of foresight into making Rorschach's tilby (not a fedora apparently) a separate piece from the mask.

Here's the breakdown of the costume pieces for anyone out there who enjoys kit-bashing their own costumes as much as I do.

Rorschach Pieces: Hat (connected to mask), trench coat, trousers (a.k.a. pants here in North America) & shoes, and gloves. No... his face does not animate as some of you unrealistically hoped for, but if you change his facial expressions quickly enough you can achieve a half-baked representation of it from a distance.

Silk Spectre Pieces: Hair, belt. I know... wierd eh? They totally neglected to add her skin tight latex work of wonder to the equasion. No biggy though... you just need to go to your Outfits section in your popit, pick her, and then begin removing or adding the other elements you want to use to create your own custom costume. One thing I did notice is that when you add certain Head costume accessories, her hair not only stiffens up (like the other female hair pieces) but also drastically changes in length.

Ozymandius Pieces: Mask, cape, breastplate, belt (including loin cloth), gloves, and boots. Not much to add here except to say that all these pieces are fantastic for making your own awesomeness where costumes are concerned.

Night Owl Pieces: Cowl (they call it a mask), cape, vest (torso really), trousers, gloves, and boots. One thing I will say right now is that for any Batman costume creators out there, Night Owl's cape is a MUST HAVE!! When stickered black you simply can't tell that it wasn't supposed to actually be Batman's cape in the first place... with it's similarly cut out design along the bottom.

Overall I'm really pleased with the quality and quantity of all the pieces. It's nice to see that we have three separate gloves in this pack, and Mm seems to be attempting to separate all the costume pieces as much as they can (don't get me started on the mask/hat thing though).

As for the stickers... meh. Nothing in there very usefull that anyone with a little skill and time couldn't make themselves IMHO. The license plate has one or two uses and maybe a few of the facility type signs, but other than that... most of the stickers are useless unless you are actually making a Watchmen themed level.

Anyways, I hope this breakdown will help you decide whether to get the pack or the individual costumes on their own if you only want a specific one.

EDIT: I was goofing around some more and I noticed that two of the characters seemed to have different face tones than I'd seen before. It turns out that Silk Spectres latex body suit is under Skins as well as Ozymandius' suit. Also, by using Night Owl's cowl in combination with his cloak, and using the Genghis Khan torso and the Meryl legs from the MGS pack all stickered black... you can make an excellent "modern style" Batman costume. The only problem is that you'd need to sticker the eyes with those goofy eye decorations or leave it as is and have him wearing some sort of night vision goggles (which works well enough). Add a custom Batman logo to the Genghis Khan chest piece and your about as close to anything Mm might have released on their own.

Thanks for breakdown, most helpful, but why does the hat have to be connected to the mask, that messes up custom costumes, although the rest of it sounds great 2009-10-01 07:54:00

Probably so you can have other hand colours and there's no face slot.

Hey.
I've noticed you can't buy the Silk sceptre in individual. Do you have to buy the whole pack for it? I hope not...

You can indeed buy the Silk Spectre separately - well in the EU store anyway. That's the only Watchmen costume we purchased.
In case you didn't notice, Leruderu, the post before yours is over 1 year ago. Please avoid bumping dead threads in future, yeah? I'm locking this now as it's very old news. Cheers!
