And for those too lazy to click a mouse...

June 2, 2009 - At their E3 2009 Media Briefing Sony revealed a version of Fat Princess will be coming to the PSP. A short clip of the game running on PSP hardware was shown in an extended sizzle reel showing a plethora of new games for the handheld. It's unclear whether the game will have unique features and modes for the PSP or whether it will be a direct port of the PSN title.

Stay tuned to IGN for more details on Fat Princess on PSP as soon as they become available.

Also to include 50% more stuff!

Once again for you lazy bums...

August 19, 2009 - Here's what you need to know about Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake, seasoned PS3 player -- this is your practice field. See, this game is every map and mode from the PlayStation 3 version of the game along with 50 percent more content. Now, that content breaks down into 15 single-player chapters in Legend of Fat Princess (PS3 has just seven), a handful of new maps, and more, but this PSP version doesn't pack voice chat and drops the total number of online players to eight (you can have another eight AI players join you) instead of the PS3's 32.

Basically, it's the same experience but entirely different. You dig? When I play on the PS3, I'm all about playing with human players. When you boot up your PSP in a few months, you'll probably be playing computer players. This portable is perfect for honing your Fat Princess skills on the go.

The other day I got to play the Gamescom build of Fat Princess -- an early build -- and although the game seemed to be running a few frames under par, it was the same solid experience I'm used to after hours of playing on the PS3. The attack animations are the same as the PS3, the classes are the same as the PS3, the music is the same as the PS3, and the presentation is the same brand of awesomeness. Basically this is the PS3 version in the palm of your hand.

In between cutting down trees and upgrading my hat machines, I did get to kick the tires on one of the game's new modes -- Grim Reaper. Here, a black helmet appears in the middle of the map, a player puts it on, and he becomes the grim reaper with a six-heart health bar and big ol' sickle. The goal is to kill as many people as you can before being taken down. When the reaper's whacked, the hat goes away and then respawns somewhere else on the map, which was a big graveyard filled with headstones and creepy shadows.

Of course, Grim Reaper wasn't the only mode I got to see while holding a slick PSPgo packing the Princess. I already told you about Dilapidation mode at E3 -- which is where all the hat machines start out busted and you have to gather resources to fix them -- but there's so much more to talk about. Demolition mode gives each team a giant bomb and challenges them to move it into the opposing castle to take out the structure, and Jailbreak has you destroying outposts to control the map and save the day.

The cool thing is that when you decide to take on one of these modes against some folks online, you can dictate how the player count shakes down. Although you can have 16-character matches, only eight humans can play at any time; the other eight slots are filled in by the computer. If you want, though, you can break the game down however you like -- eight humans vs. eight computers, four humans vs. four humans, etc.

So, yeah, Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake is Fat Princess from the PS3 on your PSP. It'll be interesting to see how engrossing the experience is on the go -- for me, the worst PS3 matches are when the majority of my teammates don't have headsets -- but there's no denying that the gameplay is fun and the graphics are still sugary cute and covered in blood. I'll be ready when this game gets released this fall.

I would have recommended not buying a PSPgo, but it's too late for that now, I suppose. 2009-10-01 22:48:00
