Remembering the Magic

Archive: 8 posts

In 2005, during Disneyland's 50th Anniversary, Disney opened a new online community, based on Disney Parks around the world, name Virtual Magic Kingdom. This gave people the chance to experience the Disney Parks from their own home. People became attached to the game, made friends, and had great memories. With infinite possibilities, this game was by far the best MMOG Disney had crafted. VMK was very successful, with thousands of dedicated players. But then, the unthinkable happened.

On April 1st, 2008, VMK's leader announced the kingdom was closing; no April Fooling. On that day, people realized they would never see their friends from the Virtual Magic Kingdom ever again. They spent the rest of their time saying goodbyes, taking pictures and making memories. Later that year, it happened.

May 21st, 2008. 12:00 p.m.
The day VMK closed. Nobody would ever forget that feeling of the servers crashing, and not being able to log back on.

Now, the players of the Virtual Magic Kingdom mourn the loss of their home. Some say it will come back. Others, say they will never see it again.

Pass this information on. Tell your friends, send e-mails or texts, tweet this, put it on your Facebook. We want Disney to regret this movement, and bring back our kingdom. Others are fighting for it, so why don't you?

And now, a final question. Do you agree to help bring back our kingdom?

This game was my LIFE for two years. I joined some months after the game opened publicly and I got addicted to an almost unhealthy level. I joined in late 2007 because the community had turned to crap. Even so, it was wrong of Disney to close it. It shows they were only in it for the money. It was opened as a giant advertisement for the parks and in 2008 they saw they were losing money. The TENS OF THOUSANDS of signatures were to on avail. Disney did and will continue to stand their ground. I'd like it to come back with a fresh start, but I won't happen. I guarantee it. No matter how many emails send, how many forums you spam; Disney will not lose money over this. If they do reopen it, they'll apply the same business model they did with the rest of their games- Free, if you like to watch other people become stronger and richer because they payed money for the ability to do so.

So. I'd like to, but it won't happen.
