Observations

Archive: 34 posts

I'm feeling a little bit sentimental at the moment for a few reasons, and so I wanted to share some thoughts and thanks with you all. Forgive my indulgence, but for the large amount of time I spend on LBPC, I wanted to express and share some observations.

- We are lucky enough to have a huge array of intelligent, talented and creative people on this forum. You provoke thought, you share ideas, you discuss problems, and it's an absolute pleasure being part of it.

- There are a huge range of discussion threads, and on the whole, opinions are expressed with consideration for others. I urge you all to continue to contribute in whatever ways you can, and carry on this healthy debate. And please remember one of the guidelines of this site: to consider the feelings of others before posting.

- Personally, I am constantly staggered by the sheer volume of quality levels this community has to offer. It is something I am constantly surprised, amazed, and continue to have fun with. Thank you.

- I'd like to again publically thank the Admin staff and Spotlight Team. Like many other members on here, I sometimes take the work required to run this site for granted, as though all things appear magically without much thought or effort. I'm grateful to each and every person who spends any amount of time to keep this wonderful community as refreshing as it is. I am not surprised of LBPC's excellent reputation with Media Molecule (and SONY), and it is with no reservation that I would recommend members on here to attract more members to this thriving community.

- There are countless people on here that I am proud to call friends. Internet forums are not really 'my thing', but LBPC is different. I have received so much support, through good times and bad, from my friends on here. I have nothing to offer in return but MY support and my thanks. I don't want to embarrass or highlight individuals, but if I were to buy a round of drinks for you all, the bill would be quite hefty! Thank you.

Sorry for the ramble, but I thought it important to remind everyone of why we are here. 'Play, Create, Share' may be LBP's motto, but for me, LBPC adds 'Support' to this mantra.

Thank you.

Wow, that was quite the heart-filled speech....for an oldie

What I love about the community is the constant underlying jokes - the wenches, the thrupennies and the oldies
Fun times, thanks everyone!!!

Cute - but is it really necessary? I don't want to hurt your feelings or anything, but posting this in its own thread seems rather silly.2009-09-28 22:52:00

Well, I must confess that I don't really understand 'posting this in its own thread seems silly' comment, but I was simply trying thank everyone for making this forum what it is.

My motive was only to highlight my feelings, nothing more.

I agree with you MrsSpookyBuz. LBP without this great community would still be a great game but the support and downright family feeling around here is something special. 2009-09-28 23:20:00

This community is the only one I've ever really got myself involved with. I sank a couple of hundred hours into CoD4 but never met anyone through it. This has been a different story. There are people on this site I would consider friends and in what I would consider the most difficult year of my life, the people of this site have been a highpoint.2009-09-28 23:51:00

You're welcome, I try very hard at what I do.

[/fake egotism (aka a joke)]

I have to agree though. I haven't seen many or to say any. . "jerks". . on this forum yet which is very surprising (unless you guys spot them out and make them disappear like magic ) as there is usually at least a couple of trolls running around creating chaos.

And I've also not seen really any "noobs" who to be frank just don't have any grammar skills whatsoever, which there usually are quite a few of if not a lot, on most forums.

Good speech. :blush:

I have to agree whole-heartedly. This is by far the best community I have been a part of. Everyone is friendly, helpful, kind, and constantly contributing in great ways. I'm honored to be a part of it. 2009-09-29 02:38:00

I agree with all of this too. I hate forums and avoid them like the plague. Never in my entire life have I felt so at home on the internet as I do on lbpcentral.com. Every other forum I belonged to had people who were mean to me and drove me away. So, yeah, this place is a great place filled with great, helpful people. ^_^2009-09-29 03:57:00

Oh man, what kind of admin would I be if I didn't respond? Well, I'm not very good at the whole sentimental thing, but it makes me very happy to know that you guys enjoy the site so much. I put a ton of time into this site and it's very rewarding to see how many people benefit from it. As long as there are people who enjoy themselves here, I will continue to do my best to keep this site as high-quality as it has always been.

On a side note, I want to work in Community Management when I'm a bit older (much like what Spaff does) and this thread has totally confirmed my reasons for wanting to do so. I don't think I've ever done something so rewarding, and this has really made my day.

I think this site has personally kept me going on LBP for so long. Its filled with great people, many of whom I now consider good freinds. Everyone is freindly and helpful, and the topics are always great fun to read and contribute to.

So thanks everybody, and especially to CC, for working hard on the site.

Good luck with that - it's important to have aspirations, and no one can say that you don't possess the skills required already.

Are you listening to this Spaff and Mm? You have an Overseas Community Manager right here!

This is surely the best online forum I've ever been on.
Made a lot of new "friends" here and encountered a lot of interesting personalities over the time.

* People screaming their lungs out about lag
* Evil overlords offering peanuts
* 30+ people going through their midlife crisis.
* Creative people of all sorts
* Some technical geniuses
* People with one heck of a funny-bone
* The list goes on...

Yes, we are quite the disfunctional family over here!!
Now let's all join together: Kum bay ya, my Lord, kum bay yaaaaaaaa....

I absolutely agree with this, Grant. I think if you and I were still on gamefaqs, and this site didn't exist, I probably would have quit a long time ago. But I can't stay away from the wonderful people. ^_^

Oh wow. Gamefaqs is possibly one of the worst communities now, you can't go *anywhere* without half the posts turning into flame wars, console wars or trolling. I used to hang in the gamefaqs LBP forums during the days of the LBP beta (where 90% of the topics were people begging to get a beta code, and the other 10% were people asking for the best levels, only to be spammed by everyone posting their own level).

Once I found this place, I lurked at first to make sure it was a better place and eventually I couldn't help but be drawn in and sign up. I've never regretted it. I've been a part of some great niche communities before, but this is the first time I've found a community with this many members that actually behave and are helpful.

I think a lot of it has to do with the staff here. Not only because of the work they do, but also because of their general attitudes and because they get involved in the community themselves and help to foster it. I think it's no wonder that this attracts the kind of members we have and leaves the trolls at bay.

Me too. When I make a level, I make it for the members here to enjoy. I could have a million plays, but the feedback from just a handful of members here would mean more to me. It's a wonderful community.

I wish I could express my feelings about this site as well as you can!

Excellent 'observations' MrsSB and everything you said is very true.
This forum is an amazing place to be and the friends I have made in the last two months while I have been on here are just brilliant. mrv and I can't imagine life without LBPC and LBP (of course).

Nope. Ender's Game reference
But that sounds like it works too!
