Addictive Nature of LBP

Archive: 34 posts

Has anybody noticed how addictive LBP is to other people? All the time people ask me what it is I am looking at here at work and I explain it to them only to have them stare blankly at me. However, once I let them borrow the game or show it to them on my ps3, they don't ever want to leave.

Example:
I have a buddy who stopped playing games early in the PS2 life. He came over and played a little bit of Dead Space and Oblivion stating he didn't really like either game. I wanted to check something on LBP and he said it was the weirdest looking game he had ever seen. After I let him play a few levels he asks if I want to play every time he comes over.

Sorry, I know this doesn't fit into anything, but I am bored at work and wanted a chat.

Yes! I am so addicted to this game. Every morining I wake up it's the first thing I think of. I can't go a day without playing it, I just don't feel right... I feel like I'm missing something. Lol, I need help. But I know there are others like me so I don't feel so alone.

I've never been addicted to a game like I am with LBP, if you added all the hours I play this game everyday it would probably amount to a month!

I genuinely believe that this game is even more addictive than heroin.

No, seriously...

That's exactly what a lot of heroin addicts say.

I myself am addicted to LBP and have been since launch, but none of my friends like it at all. I think it's because they fall into the "death blood kill FPS" group.2009-09-29 00:48:00

Yes - I get the blank stares when I try to describe it to anyone. Even more so, it seems, from other gamers who have never seen or heard of LBP...

Gamer Buddy: "So, what?... it's like a side scroller? Like Mario Brothers?"
Me: "Well, yeah, kinda... only in 3D, with multiple planes. But really it's the create mode that makes this game so amazing."
GB: "Oh, yeah I've seen plenty of games where you create your own stuff."
Me: "No you haven't. Not like this."
GB: "Sure I have."

... and so on.

My teenage kids have all but given up on me (the one hates the game and the other likes it, but hasn't the patience for creating). Both of them just roll their eyes when I start talking LBP. I have actually been struggling to focus at work because all I can think about is either playing the game, or coming to these forums.

Best hobby I've ever had!

Lol @ v0rtex. I get the same reaction when I try to explain it to people. My girlfriend liked the game at first, but now can't stand it. I also find myself getting distracted, which is probably not a good thing. Ever wake up in the morning to a dream of CC accidentally deleted the Thermo Guide I working on...? No? Oh, me neither...2009-09-29 01:24:00

At the end of my senior year in high school, I had to make a 45 minute presentation to my AP English class on a topic of my choosing. I chose LittleBigPlanet. 2009-09-29 01:43:00

Oh jeez. Facepalm.

No need to facepalm, I got the highest grade in the class, nobody fell asleep during the presentation, and a couple people bought LittleBigPlanet because of it, including one person who actually got a PS3 for it.

It must have been the giant Sackboy cutout I put on top of my tri-fold board.

Just for that I'm going to work Sackboy into one of my lessons when I become a teacher. If I teach physics instead of math, I am going to have lessons using LBP to simulate physics.

Clearly.

I'll try to stay on topic. Yes, Littlebigplanet is super addicting, but for me it's mostly because of this community. Without LBPC, I could see myself having put it down ages ago. I've also learned so much from all the great members here (group hug?). I'm especially grateful for rtm, who has unknowingly taken me under his wing to show me the ways of the force logic.

Yes, LBP is addictive. It's an addiction, a hobby, a lifestyle, etc . . .

@Ungreth:

LOLZ!! ^o^

@v0rtex:

If they have never seen or heard of LBP, then they cannot call themselves a gamer. I have also come across people that think LBP's creation thing isn't much different than any other game and they have never even played it. This actually annoys me, like a pet peeve, because comparing LBP's creation options to other games just doesn't work since LBP is in a league of its own.

@comphermc:

Those are lessons I would actually pay attention to, lol. Back when I was in school, there was no LBP to simulate this. Lol.

It gets easy to burn out on this game... that is, unless you really get back in touch with the charm.

You know I still feel warm inside everytime I see one of the videos from the development period? It just has something about it. Something so nice, pure, happy.

Something.. I don't always feel when I play. Maybe I just burned out too heavily on it... But just thinking about it inspires me to look for what I've been neglecting the whole time.

I was definitely joking. I was trying to make a point of what you say is true... you know, to agree with you. Trust me, I'm not a person to say hurtful things. It may not have come off that way, but that was how I intended it.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I remember the early demo videos, and back when it was "sponges" instead of point bubbles that you collected. The music, and the multiplayer, and the magical, unbelievably fun tone of the game. I've sunk so much PAIN into create mode, and I've played SO many levels, I feel like I've lost that mood that I used to get from those early demo videos.

I think I need to play more multiplayer.

A lot of the time I'm like "I feel like playing _____ but I think I'll play LBP for a little".

An hour later I'm still playing LBP and usually never end up playing the game I intended on playing.

The cure: Don't listen to myself. Play the other game first, then LBP.

Hm addicted i might have been... but now im at uni i dont think i'll miss it.

I only really played LBP for creating. If it was just to play levels i would have lost interest a long time ago.

Its the only game in a LONG time that I've played for this long, mostly everyday since release. I keep going back to xbox and the games I have stacked up, but always get the create bug and come back to LBP.

Sometimes the wife understands, other times not, it depends on her mood, and whats on TV. The day and a half straight session myself and NinjaMcWiz once had really made her mad, especially when after 4 hours sleep I got back up and continued the level . At one time, she actually had my Sackboy photograph on her phone for when I rang her

So I suppose it is an addiction when it interferes with your home life.....

I'm actually contemplating going into rehab. I don't eat properly anymore, because I'm too wrapped up in the game to even get off my butt and look in the fridge. I always stay up late into the small hours, getting an average of 4 hours sleep every night, and my wife is complaining that we never go to bed at the same time anymore. I have a daughter of three years old who I never find the time or motivation to play with anymore. At work I can't focus on the tasks I need to do, since I've had no sleep and I'm always daydreaming about ways to set up the various scenarios I want to include in my levels. LBP has become a serious problem. It's taken control of my life and I want it back....but not until I've finished my current project.

D@mn it, there I go again! Aaaaaaaaaargh!!!

That's a really ironic way to phrase the need to play LittleBigPlanet! For most people, it's the "create bug" that makes them put it down.

My girlfriend hates when I play LBP, and video games are just not her thing..

For example, after dinner she always want to watch TV to relax or just fells like talking....
and I must do as she want or it becomes a drama ("You prefer your game better than me..." and that kind of stuff...
So I just wait, looking at the clock, till she finally decides to go to bed and i can finally turn on the PS3.
And when she does, it's already midnight, so I play/create till 3 or 4 a.m... and I must wake up at 8 for work...

That's not enough sleep, and all that situation is very frustrating

I'm jealous of some of you guys who have girlfriends or wives who are also into LBP,
and with who you can play and discuss without feeling guilty of something

Don't get me wrong, I love my girlfriend but it would have been cool to have that commun passion with her...

Yep, I've felt like some "invader from space" as well when I try to explain LBP to the outside world.

I'm totally addicted to LBP and at times I hate myself for it.
I have a huge stack of games waiting for me (including the Xbox360 as a console) and I just can't keep away from it.

I started playing Batman Arkham Asylum (wich I bought on day 1, btw...yep that stack of games) over the weekend and the change in scenery felt absolutely wonderful.
That said, the next day is was playing LBP once more.

Mm has released one heck of virus on us all, that's for sure!!
