aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh pistons!

Why is a piston (operating a door) working perfectly fine in create mode, but refuses to trigger (open) in play mode?

Please help. I have been swearing at Hilda (my ps3) for an hour.

Hilda?

Mine's called Elizabeth!

I'm not sure about the piston though, it's never happened to me. A new bug perhaps. Why not just replace the piston and see if that works?

Do you have any emitters anywhere doing anything?2009-09-28 21:22:00

How is the piston wired?
To a directional or you have to hold an on/off switch down? Sometimes pistons get out of time for no apparent reason. Replace it and see what happens if you can.

Yes it's a pain. It happened to me in my Arabian Adventure level. I had 2 doors with a piston and directional sensor switch that worked perfectly in create mode but then in play mode they sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. I tried new switches several times but it still kept happening so in the end I just had to delete the doors altogether.

Not a great solution if your doors are absolutely necessary but it's all I could do with mine. It's not a new bug either, it's been around for months. It's one of those bugs that make creating so annoying at times.

I had this seemly simple issue with one of the two doors in my LittleBigMemory level. The second door refused to trigger in Play Mode. Sometimes, setting the strength to 0 and back to 10 would work, other times I had to leave Grid Mode (gasp) and shave small sections off of either side of the door so it wasn't touching the surrounding environment.2009-09-28 22:52:00

After much more swearing at the old girl, and taking chunks of the level apart piece by piece, it turned out that somehow the trigger area of the key controlling it had shifted by like, two pixels. In create mode it was fine, in play it didn't trigger. Grr!2009-09-28 23:22:00

Hmm..I hadn't quite thought of it like that. I actually think the queen should abdicate the throne and the monarchy should be disbanded. It really sucks that British tax payers are forced to fund the decadent lifestyles of a clan of toffee-nosed inbreds who do nothing for the country other than throwing fresh meat to the tabloid vultures, but whatever...

I had the same thing happen on the level I am working on now. Not with a door, but with platforms I had. I just changed the piston to a winch and the problem was solved. To make it look like the piston was coming from below I made the wench invisible.2009-09-29 17:50:00

Wow. Without going too far off-topic, you don't seem to understand how the Civil List works. Beyond that, agree to disagree etc.
