FAQ: Reputation System
Archive: 11 posts
Originally written by me, thoroughly edited by ConfusedCartman. This is to answer your questions about the Reputation Feature. ------------------- What is rep? Reputation is a system that allows you to let someone know what you think of a post they made. Reputation, when used correctly, can be a way to gauge a member's usefulness and overall post quality. Contradictorily, it can reveal members who don't stay on topic or contribute to the discussion. Essentially, rep governs who you are in the eyes of the other members. How do I give rep? Look for the button in someone's postbit that looks like a scale: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x95/Forsaken-Shadow/Tut3.jpg If you click it, it will bring up two options: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x95/Forsaken-Shadow/Tut4.jpg If you think a member posts well, click the "I approve button" and leave a comment if you wish. Leaving a comment is optional. If you think that member made a rude or insulting post, choose "disapprove". In this case, some form of a comment must be made in order to submit negative rep. Try to include why you negatively repped someone. How does rep work? Members start at 10 rep. The more they are repped the higher their rep climbs. At certain points (rep count, post count, etc) a user's "rep power" increases, which makes their rep worth more. What are rep gems? Rep gems (or blocks), are the little squares that are in two places: Your profile: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x95/Forsaken-Shadow/Tut1.jpg Or in of your posts: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x95/Forsaken-Shadow/Tut2.jpg These Rep Gems represent your rep. The more rep you have, the more gems you have. If you manage to get into negative rep, your rep gems will be colored red. Do not confuse these red rep gems with the red rep gems included with a negative rep comment. Those are a different matter, and are explained further below. How do I get more rep gems/blocks? Once a member has 100 rep they will receive a second rep gem. A member will receive a third gem when they get 200, a 4th with 300, and so on. How do I view my rep? Go to your User CP to view the last 5 rep messages you received. You'll also be able to tell if it's bad or good rep as there will be a little block that is either green for good, or red for bad. Some of the rep I received was displayed as Gray! What is that? Gray rep symbolizes the absence of rep. If you receive gray rep, that means that someone who has no "reputation power" has repped one of your posts. It will have no effect on your reputation level. Are there any rules regarding rep? Yes, a couple: No trading rep. This happens on other forums, and it never turns out well. This community is unique, however, and I trust you guys to do the right thing. Use rep correctly. For example, don't try to negatively rep the same person whenever you get a chance just because you don't like them(or whatever reason you may have). If either of these rules are broken, the rep system will be disabled. What do I do if I know the rep system is being abused? If, for one reason or another, you feel a person or group of people is abusing the rep system, immediately PM a member of the site staff and they will handle it. ------------- Any other questions? | 2008-09-19 01:25:00 Author: Forsaken Posts: 950 |
how can you see another persons total rep? I"M IN THE SECOND PICTURE In spoiler for off-topicness | 2008-09-20 22:47:00 Author: Sage Posts: 2068 |
You need to edit something in this, which confused me for a bit. In the section about rep jems you stated: "If you manage to get into negative rep, your rep gems will be colored green." Shouldn't that say red instead of green? | 2008-09-20 23:05:00 Author: Unknown User |
how can you see another persons total rep? I"M IN THE SECOND PICTURE In spoiler for off-topicness There's only one way to check other people's rep (besides being staff), that's by going in user's profile in the LittleBigExperience section (Next to contact info), then check "Reputation". See the link if you don't know what I mean. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x95/Forsaken-Shadow/Tut5.jpg For example, mine is 14 right now. Yes, Rep also counts You need to edit something in this, which confused me for a bit. Yeah you're right <_< Thanks for pointing it out Clank. | 2008-09-21 15:38:00 Author: Forsaken Posts: 950 |
I have a question or maybe need help. I notice on this FAQ, the reputation icon will pop up a box that gives 2 choices and optional comments. However, I've never seen that box and it seem to me whenever I click that star icon, it automatically rep up, I think. I just updated to Firefox 3.6 and I still don't see that box. I'm using Windows 7 and I hope someone could help me fix it so I can properly see all the features this site offers. Thanks in advance. | 2010-03-11 23:09:00 Author: Unknown User |
The new version is the 6 sided star looking thing next to the Thanks button. It might be that the reason you are not seeing the choices is you have already repped someone prior and must spread it around first. ...just a guess though. Not sure it is really repping up without the comment. You can shoot CC an email and possibly he could help. | 2010-03-11 23:11:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |

For example, I just thank your previous post for being helpful. I click the rep icon once and nothing seems to happen. When I click it again, a small box pop up telling me I cannot rep a post twice. | 2010-03-11 23:34:00 Author: Unknown User |
Oh sorry.. ConfusedCartman (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?118-ConfusedCartman) who is the admin here. Not sure about your issue to be honest, I am also using Firefox 3.6. I would think if it were some sort of pop up blocker you wouldn't get the other message. | 2010-03-11 23:40:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
I think it's because you can't thank someone and rep someone in the same post. You have to choose between one or the other. (BTW, people who are new to the site don't have much power to rep people until they get more rep themselves. Just a tip.) | 2010-03-12 00:51:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |

I keep that in mind in the future. | 2010-03-12 03:27:00 Author: Unknown User |
Good thought Incinerator. Never though about that she had tried to do both. Basically I thank someone if they say something I like in a particular discussion or answer a question for me etc.. I only use Rep if the member has gone way out of their way to help someone out. Like a huge well thought out and amazing post. ..another thing to consider is not to abuse rep as I think the mods will come and have a chat with you if you do. | 2010-03-12 12:49:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
