A sonic - fast moving gameplay idea

I've had this idea and played with it for a little while, but can't seem to get anywhere with it in my levels.

The idea is for a sonic style type of gameplay, where you are moving really fast and you must jump over, grab things at very specific moments.


gameplay like this:

You could keep the player's speed by placing glass on the ground. But how would you initiate the speed?

I guess a question I have for you is: is there a way you can propel the sack on the ground without the propeller object really getting in the way?

There's a glitch that propels you forward... (It's the odd gravity glitch.)

I'd try reading up on that...

I made a thread explaining just how to do that glitch too. You could look at that, and the level "Odd Gravity" by Crisofilax, it has unlockable platforms that push you.2009-09-27 00:09:00

its easy, just need two pieces of thin layer dm and two rods connecting them to the platform. one is stiff the other isnt and you tweak that one longer or shorter to push or pull in whatever direction

example: both dm are under the platform, the rod that determines gravity is lengthened, product = less gravity

if the one that decides is shortened product = heavier gravity

if the dm and rod that decide are on the side of the platform you get the effect that drags sackboy in whichever direction

theres afew short tutorials on it

anyway there is one little problem, it tends to get faster and faster when u jsut stand there. i actually built a small demo after i read this to see how it would work and it works pretty well but be careful the platforms are delicate and prone to breakage

wow i just looked into this and i must say this is JUST what i needed! I think now i will be able to make this level .

@SLS10: LittleBigdude is exactly right. Try playing the level: "Odd Gravity" by Crisofilax (as mentioned above) If you ace his level he will give the three platforms he uses throughout the level as a prize. I got them and you'll see how they're made.

If the rods are set to extreme values will they destroy themselves or allow faster movement?

i dont usually find much more enhanced gravity changes by makeing extreme values or breakage, i imagine it makes it more delicate tho and sometimes when your trying to make less gravity the rods may be not exactly alined wich causes slight dragging to the left or right and i think by setting extreme values it will enhance that unwanted dragging.2009-09-27 03:29:00
