How do you feel about storylines in LBP

Archive: 6 posts

(This is all IMO)

Latley I've realized that There seems to be a inverse relationship between the complexity of the plot and the level of fun in the LittleBigPlanet universe. Levels that focus on the development of a storyline seem to not focus on creative game play, which I think littlebigplanet was intended for. The tools we are given to progress through stories are limited to the magic mouth, which is limited to a few lines of text. Because of this limitation, Plot-heavy level creators will use multiple magic mouths at once to move through their stories. I then have to read through a crap load of text when all I really want to do is jump over stuff, get flung through the air, swing over deadly fire pits, ya know, stuff thats fun to do in littlebigplanet. Theres just not that much to do to make the player seem apart of the story. I think the levels that utilize plot effectively are the ones that give me an idea of whats going on, but aren't so detailed that it needs freakin ten speech bubbles. Take the Mm levels for example, The only magic mouths that I read are in the beginning of the levels, and the plot is so simple that it doesn't need a ton of magic mouths to help figure out whats going on.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that creators need to stop focusing on enthralling stories (because non of them are that enthralling) and start focusing on enthralling game play.

Does anyone else feel like this?

I generally agree with you on this. While some creators can pull it off, I find it's rarely the case. As soon as I see a butt-wad of speech bubbles pop up on more than two occasions... I immediately exit the level so I don't waste my time.

It's like when Spawn first came out. I was thinking "Is this a comic book... or a frikkin' novel!?"

I feel it could be put to good use- not too sure how though XD. The only level I have is pretty much story driven, seeing as how I can't keep up to other standards other people set, so why not go with my one good point?

... that reminds me, I REALLY should get back to work on my sequel... >_<
