The Perpetual Distance - (Chapter II) - The Abandoned Citadel
Archive: 89 posts
Right, a couple of you may know that I've started the second chapter, where I'm taking...Well...Quite a dark turn with the series (which I wanted to do with the first chapter but ran out of thermo...). It's going to be slightly grimmer than what you saw of the previous installment, and far more detailed. I can't reveal too much, but here's the plot outline... Picking up from Chapter I, where you saw the destruction of the Inn and the invasion of the local residence, you have to evacuate the area. You destroyed one of the Lizeth machines (using the artefact [or for you Americans, artifact]), but you fear there may be more of these death contraptions. You were right. You have no memory of what happened, you can only suspect that another one of these machines took out your boat...Maybe even killed your friends. You wake up inside a strange town, completely deserted, seemingly enchanted, beautiful, only until you observe the bullet holes and the blood of those who lived in the area. What is this place? Where are the folk? More importantly, where's the next artefact...? Riiiight, so I may as well post some pictures, showing a little sneak of the level! Detail http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=826&pictureid=7001 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=826&pictureid=6940 I wish to make this the most detailed level I have ever made, using some new techniques I've been experimenting with...Actually, this level is the experiment. The orange light means ACCELERATE! http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=826&pictureid=6997 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=826&pictureid=7000 Okay, maybe not. But these amber lights add a little something to the level... On that note...WTF ARE THESE?? http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=826&pictureid=6998 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=826&pictureid=6996 Nobody knows what it's like to be something (somethiiing) which no-one (no-ooone) will not collect...(not colleeeeect...) *cough* Anyway, yeah. You'll see. | 2009-09-26 18:04:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |

Excellent. This is a great series, and I'm wondering where you'll take us next (and what custom music you'll expose us to along the way). | 2009-09-26 19:17:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Yay! You're one of my favourite creators so I'll be very happy to see how the next chapter of this great series turns out. I too am excited by what custom music we'll be seeing this time. Your custom music is brilliant and I always enjoy listening to it. | 2009-09-26 19:22:00 Author: persona3fan93 Posts: 155 |

in an interview with korndawwg, on the release of his new level Korndawg replyed "this bl00dy water better hurry up" Holy crap that's actually true and all 0__0 The level won't be released until water is...I have a lot planned... I need to work on platforming most of all, I have a few ideas but I just need to...well, incorporate them in some way. Sadly, I'm battling with the thermo at the moment... | 2009-10-03 21:37:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
Holy crap that's actually true and all 0__0 The level won't be released until water is...I have a lot planned... So it may not be until, for example, February 2010? And it's #2? No chance of making it #3 and fleshing out the in between part with some new content ... a bit sooner? | 2009-10-03 21:40:00 Author: Jagrevi Posts: 1154 |
So it may not be until, for example, February 2010? And it's #2? No chance of making it #3 and fleshing out the in between part with some new content ... a bit sooner? Also what I planned on doing...-__-' Kinda meant to be a surprise but meh. I'm actually working on III as well. Not as much as II but I also figured, seeing as though the water may not come out for a while, I could work on III at the same time. Besides, knowing me I would take around four months to make a level. Seriously, that's how long DMCIV took. | 2009-10-03 21:52:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
WARNING The pictures below are not just to tell you that I'm still working on this level, but also to show you all my SUPER MEGA AWESOME Dante costume! Hell, with the packs I've recently bought, I may even remake the DMC series, but even so, these are images of the level so far. Some of the sections are the most detailed I've ever made: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=826&pictureid=7546 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=826&pictureid=7549 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=826&pictureid=7548 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=826&pictureid=7547 | 2009-10-11 21:09:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |

can't wait for #2 to come out...hope you don't stick to waiting for water to come out....i mean....imagine if water breaks your level :0 so i would make any intended levels with water in it when it actually comes out and we know what it can do but regardless i still look foward to seeing this being published so i may enjoy | 2009-10-11 21:24:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
Yay more pictures! And nice costume man Im really looking forward to this but if you're waiting for the water we will have to wait for a few months, and that would be terrible so please make it without the water and edit it later? | 2009-10-11 22:00:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |
Yay more pictures! And nice costume man Im really looking forward to this but if you're waiting for the water we will have to wait for a few months, and that would be terrible so please make it without the water and edit it later? I share your enthusiasm for seeing the continuation of great series as soon as possible. By the way ... Ghost of Sparta Chapter Two? However, just for the record - I'm not actually for publishing part of a series with the knowledge you'll edit in a completely new element later. If I care about story, I think it's to be assumed I also care about continuity, at least to a reasonable degree. | 2009-10-11 22:02:00 Author: Jagrevi Posts: 1154 |

This is going to be game changing material!!!Im working on a brand new project, too. If anyone cares, its called Edenstone.I will show off some ideas in the near future. well not like no one cares but...should you really be posting this in a thread about ANOTHER project? kind of seems offensive to me anyways @KD I'd say publish the next level soon...and when water is released you could make the next levels with water included...but making us wait is like dangling some chocolate over my head and i loves my chocolate too much for it to be out of reach lol know what i mean? | 2009-10-12 03:48:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |

Even so, I'll add the water later. Yay more pictures! And nice costume man Im really looking forward to this but if you're waiting for the water we will have to wait for a few months, and that would be terrible so please make it without the water and edit it later?Again, just as the above, I'm editing it later, you're all right on this I honestly wasn't expecting water to be released so late 0__0 I share your enthusiasm for seeing the continuation of great series as soon as possible. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- If I care about story, I think it's to be assumed I also care about continuity, at least to a reasonable degree.I plan on making four more levels, and a final boss level. Continuity? I would hope so This is going to be game changing material!!!Im working on a brand new project, too. If anyone cares, its called Edenstone.I will show off some ideas in the near future. Dude, I know you're new man but you cannot advertise your projects in other threads, especially in topics relating to other people's levels. well not like no one cares but...should you really be posting this in a thread about ANOTHER project? kind of seems offensive to me Don't worry man I know him, he's fairly new to the boards and new to forums generally so, well, you can't blame him anyways @KD I'd say publish the next level soon...and when water is released you could make the next levels with water included...but making us wait is like dangling some chocolate over my head and i loves my chocolate too much for it to be out of reach lol know what i mean?LOL Thanks for that I'll try and get it out as soon as I possibly can, however, with work piling up (I'm in the final year of GCSE, it's crucial), I will not be on as much. Plus I have also dedicated my creating time to LBPC The Game Thanks for the enthusiasm guys, I can't wait to release it | 2009-10-12 19:33:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
lol yeah LBPC im also looking foward to, so whichever comes first...just worry about your work because we all know its more important than level creation lol so keep up the good work and us fans will wait it out a bit more | 2009-10-12 21:57:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
what about making the citadel later and release say another that dont need water, | 2009-10-13 07:17:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
what about making the citadel later and release say another that dont need water, unless i'm mistaken, that would be somewhat wierd... skipping an entire chapter of the story, you see But if he's just waiting on water, he could work on ones after it in the meantime, meaning you'd get chapter 3 a bit faster. | 2009-10-13 07:28:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
its not really skipping a chapter, No offence, i dont remember getting on a boat, maybe add in a chapter so at the end you get on a boat? | 2009-10-13 07:52:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
what about making the citadel later and release say another that dont need water, Considering I make everything up on the spot, that seems like a good idea. However, I've put so much into this that, well, killing it off now for a while will completely drain my motivation. unless i'm mistaken, that would be somewhat wierd... skipping an entire chapter of the story, you see But if he's just waiting on water, he could work on ones after it in the meantime, meaning you'd get chapter 3 a bit faster.I already am working on Chapter 3, just not as much its not really skipping a chapter, No offence, i dont remember getting on a boat, maybe add in a chapter so at the end you get on a boat?In the beginning of this level, you actually do get in a boat | 2009-10-13 20:51:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
as much as i'd like to see water in this level i think you should save it for later...i mean...you got room to publish 7 more levels...so work with what ya got and feel free to make changes or REMAKES later on, im sure people wouldnt mind playing a remake of a level when water comes out just to see how different it would be (i.e. azure palace ) | 2009-10-14 00:33:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
I've just tried to make fake water. It failed. Epically. So I'll just have to think of something else...Waterfalls, anyone? | 2009-10-14 20:52:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
So I'll just have to think of something else...Waterfalls, anyone? eh. What exactly are the criteria of "something else"? | 2009-10-14 20:56:00 Author: Jagrevi Posts: 1154 |
Maybe we can help if you showed us where and what kind of water you want Waterfalls are always great as long as there is a rocket at the bottom to fake the steam. | 2009-10-14 20:56:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |
That's the question though - what exactly is it that's needed? Does it have to be water, per-say, or could it be something else? Like, random example, bubbling cheese. | 2009-10-14 20:57:00 Author: Jagrevi Posts: 1154 |
I can make you a fake water, but i'll need the background you are using... Btw its not the brain glitch and aslong as it dont need moving | 2009-10-14 20:58:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
eh. What exactly are the criteria of "something else"?Something that isn't fake water and isn't as crap as just putting gas there. That's the question though - what exactly is it that's needed? Does it have to be water, per-say, or could it be something else? Like, random example, bubbling cheese. No, it doesn't. But I would prefer there to be a water-feel, goes with the scenery... I can make you a fake water, but i'll need the background you are using... Btw its not the brain glitch and aslong as it dont need moving I've tried the brain glitch, hence the "fake water". It fails. So I may include waterfalls, but at the same time, I may not be able to due to layers -__-' Don't worry, I'll get around it... ...As for progress...It's 56.34% complete... | 2009-10-15 19:04:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
So I may include waterfalls, but at the same time, I may not be able to due to layers -__-' Don't worry, I'll get around it... ...As for progress...It's 56.34% complete... so you aren't going to use the layer glitch on this? cuz there is a supposed way to make it so objects themselves can bypass the layers too...just look for one of the hundreds of glitch showcase levels and hop to it | 2009-10-16 08:02:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
so you aren't going to use the layer glitch on this? cuz there is a supposed way to make it so objects themselves can bypass the layers too...just look for one of the hundreds of glitch showcase levels and hop to it Yep there is a way to do that and for those that didn't know yet, pistons do work in the glitched layers, bolts on the other hand do not. So it would be perfectly possible to create layerglitched waterfalls. If you need help with something just gimme a call when you are in LBP, don't think you need it but you never know. | 2009-10-16 12:54:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |

I really appreciate it and I will keep it in mind, however, the only help I need right now, and I do believe this is the most helpful thing anyone could ever do atm, is just take a peek and see if the ****ing thing works. Of course, I cannot force, but I will need to call you very soon Zwollyy As for the level, I've got around my fake water dilemmas, and on top of that, I've completely changed the lighting and atmosphere...Hopefully for the better... | 2009-10-19 17:43:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |

I'll volunteer for testing if you need the assistance | 2009-10-20 02:22:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |

LOL No Titan formula, sorry However, it's stealthy...Something I really haven't done and am actually quite afraid of doing...I just hope it doesn't fail 'cause, well, multiplayer. I always say that and, well, five months later... I think you should be banned from here until it's finished! I'm perpetually gagging to play it. So, um, no pressure | 2009-10-21 21:36:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |

I love everything I've seen so far, imo take your time as the result will be most pleasing when you think it through. Be careful though, as it also raises expectations!! Do you have a full story in your mind for this one or do just kinda make it up as you go along? | 2009-10-24 12:59:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |

Do you have a full story in your mind for this one or do just kinda make it up as you go along? At the moment...I'm having second thoughts with some sections...Particularly the stealth area... As for the story, I know exactly what it is about and the various connotations, but the way I present it and lay it out I make up right there and then. Most of the time I end up with sections which really don't fit in with the rest of the level, or its theme. If you actually wanna know what it's about, well, it's inspired by the Chilean 1973 military coup. Yes, I do put a bit of research...In fact, I know this all too well. The Junta exiled my Dad and my grandparents. | 2009-10-24 21:46:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |

okay see that's a pretty good idea... and since i have dbz on the mind any chance you are going to make one of those "has nothing to do with the story but i put it there anyways to show these people have a life" type levels like how some dbz levels dont have anything to do with the series but they show that they have a life and do stuff and etc. | 2009-10-25 23:49:00 Author: Shadowcrazy Posts: 3365 |
You were saying there wasnt enough platforming and I couldn't give you a proper answer because typing in littlebigplanet is sooooooo slow.. I don't really see the problem, your levels have there own style and it doesn't have to be an obstacle course. If you'd put in more platforming people wouldn't notice the brilliant design of your level, the second time I tested it I saw alot of things in the background that I didn't even notice before. You do have some parts where you have to walk for a bit (maybe you mean there has to be platforming in these parts?), why not put some score bubbles in the air in groups of 3, that way people have will jump instead of walk in a straight line. Sorry to hear that you lost a part of your level, i've had the problem alot too : Im sure you can do it again, Keep up the work and thanks for helping me with my levels | 2009-10-26 11:15:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |

Well hopefully I will be able to balance the visual-gameplay levels with an extra section I just made... ...I was gonna use it to remake my Devil May Cry levels, but I figured that it would look better in Perpetual. Okay, here it is - the area I was going to use in my DMC remake level, now in Perpetual instead. "Here it is" published and unlocked? Nein, I was talking specifically about that DMC-themed section Sorry to disappoint PROGRESS UPDATE: The level stands at 85%...ish. I've just completely redone the stealth area so that...Well, there isn't any stealth involved. However, it is one section which hopefully balances that platforming-visuals scale. I just hope to god that it works properly when others test it...Which should be soon... | 2009-10-27 22:05:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
Unfortunately, no thoughts =/ To me its too hard to see the pics for me to make much out. CURSE YOU PICTURES WITHOUT AMBIANT LIGHTING! | 2009-10-27 22:09:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
Unfortunately, no thoughts =/ To me its too hard to see the pics for me to make much out. CURSE YOU PICTURES WITHOUT AMBIANT LIGHTING! They are too dark, you say...? CURSE YOU THE PERSON WHO DEVELOPED THE PHOTO TOOL AND DIDN'T ALLOW IT TO CAPTURE AMBIENT LIGHTING!! lol nah I'll be uploading more...Which may be a little lighter... | 2009-10-27 22:11:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
You're all going to kill me. I've hit a block. A major block. Seriously, the biggest one yet. And that's pretty ****ing big. You see, I have everything else pretty much down, just finishing off the final section and tweaking here and there...However, I have no idea how to actually start the **** thing. I know some will think, well, what's the big deal? Just add a checkpoint and boom, done. It's not that simple. I have to pick it up from where it previously left off, and considering the fact that I have two and a half bars of thermo left...All my options have failed me. Miserably. I haven't actually put in characters yet so considering how much I use the corner editor...That will kill me before I can properly finish. So I'm asking you how you would like it to start - I'm telling you now, it will involve you dying in the most epic fashion ever. I know just how to do it, it doesn't take much thermo, the only thing I want to ask you is how long you want the section to be, and whether or not you care about platforming. | 2009-10-28 22:41:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
You're all going to kill me. Bold prediction given that we don't know where you live, but I'll hear you out. I've hit a block. A major block. Seriously, the biggest one yet. And that's pretty ****ing big. ... ... Where do you live again? You see, I have everything else pretty much down, just finishing off the final section and tweaking here and there...However, I have no idea how to actually start the **** thing. I know some will think, well, what's the big deal? Just add a checkpoint and boom, done. It's not that simple. I haven't actually put in characters yet so considering how much I use the corner editor...That will kill me before I can properly finish. Oooh. It always comes down to thermo, doesn't it? Sympathies That being said, you made it sound much worse, so I'm glad it's just this. So I'm asking you how you would like it to start - I'm telling you now, it will involve you dying in the most epic fashion ever. I know just how to do it, it doesn't take much thermo, the only thing I want to ask you is how long you want the section to be, and whether or not you care about platforming. A horrible, elaborate death, eh? I've always wanted one of those. While I can't speak as to "how long it should be" (I know nothing about it really, so we'll have to trust your sense of aesthetics on that one - I feel we're in good hands), I can say this: I do not care about platforming. Well, that's not exactly true ... The level should have at least one piece of platforming in it. At least a small rock I have to jump over, for example. Other than that - by all means, tell your story. I'm not here for the chance to jump over two rocks. I'll be honest, and I think I might be somewhat representative of your demographic here ... I'm here for the story, and for the atmosphere. Some kind of gameplay is important, yes ... but really just to legitimize it - so we can feel like "we're playing a game we're involved with". If it's minimal, so be it. Did you ever play - or watch someone play - Metal Gear Solid 4? Giant movie with occasional interaction by the player for 4 minutes. Also, it was great. | 2009-10-29 01:28:00 Author: Jagrevi Posts: 1154 |
Frankly, i'm more intrigued in the story than the platforming. But are you really not going to be able to have that much extra with 2+ bars of thermo left? Wowzers. | 2009-10-29 03:41:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
First off - I just want to thank Jagrevi for completely dissecting my message, always wanted someone to do that Bold prediction given that we don't know where you live, but I'll hear you out. ... ... Where do you live again? *COUGH* Never actually thought about that...Now you've kinda scared me... Oooh. It always comes down to thermo, doesn't it? Sympathies That being said, you made it sound much worse, so I'm glad it's just this. You're glad that I have no room to manoeuvre? Thanks! Nah, but believe it or not, it is a big problem because I may have to cut down on characters...Which ruins the plot. On that note, I will have my good friend Forgave taking the role of one of the guards you will meet. A horrible, elaborate death, eh? I've always wanted one of those. Sadly, you won't get one. I want to plan one, but it won't fit here. It's just a simple gassing or a quick plasma ball. Nothing spectacular. While I can't speak as to "how long it should be" (I know nothing about it really, so we'll have to trust your sense of aesthetics on that one - I feel we're in good hands), I can say this: I do not care about platforming. Good! Because there isn't any. For the intro anyway, just a quick briefing and POP. Next area. Well, that's not exactly true ... Well holy ****, you got me there :/ The level should have at least one piece of platforming in it. At least a small rock I have to jump over, for example. Other than that - by all means, tell your story. I'm not here for the chance to jump over two rocks.Yeah, you really got me. Unless you count jumping into a machine as platforming, in which case, yeah...I'm good... I'll be honest, and I think I might be somewhat representative of your demographic here ... I'm here for the story, and for the atmosphere. Some kind of gameplay is important, yes ... but really just to legitimize it - so we can feel like "we're playing a game we're involved with". Well my good friend, you have just saved me - thank you Because I fear this may be the most significant chapter in the series in terms of story, and trust me, there's quite a bit of it in this. On a seemingly unrelated note - do you know anything about the La Moneda palace bombings? Frankly, i'm more intrigued in the story than the platforming. But are you really not going to be able to have that much extra with 2+ bars of thermo left? Wowzers.I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but if you're talking about how much I will be able to add with two bars, let's just say (apart from characters and touching up the final area) no, there is nothing else I will be able to add. Trust me, this level is almost entirely focused on visuals (and story...Which really doesn't take up any thermo), and I feel I've gone a step too far with my 'experiments'... PROGRESS NOTE: The level should be released this weekend. | 2009-10-29 22:27:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |

On a seemingly unrelated note - do you know anything about the La Moneda palace bombings? I think you already explained how this is related - and in response, yes, but only in the most vague of ways. That being said, I wouldn't go too overboard actually telling everyone directly what your story is about, at least before they play it. Let people appreciate the story for what it is, and then afterwards, if you really want to, you can dissect it for them. Allow people to draw their own philosophical inferences first. PROGRESS NOTE: The level should be released this weekend. Woohoo. That would be cool ye, can you wait till sunday? I might be able to finish it if I get up early tommorow Don't encourage him to wait! Why do they have to be released at the exact same time? I definitely want to play both, but if I can get one a day sooner ... than yes, please. | 2009-10-30 17:08:00 Author: Jagrevi Posts: 1154 |

Any chance they'll be a level thread on it soon, so we can gush someplace more appropriate? lol yeah as Burny pointed out, I already have a thread about the level It's actually on Page 2 at the moment with nearly 2,000 plays @John - long time no speak, eh? | 2009-11-04 15:35:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
lol yeah as Burny pointed out, I already have a thread about the level It's actually on Page 2 at the moment with nearly 2,000 plays @John - long time no speak, eh? Going good so far! Didn't expect any different from you Korn , the republish messages I get from you are quite annoying though Is there a way to put those off? | 2009-11-04 16:33:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |
Nope, theres no way to put it off. But if you are creating, and not using online, etc. You can log off the PSN network in game, then log back in and NOT log in to LBP online. you'll still be able to talk with PSN friends and create, but no messages | 2009-11-04 17:45:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
