Pirates! The Adventures On the High Seas!HOLLYWOOD234
http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad94/bejarada/APhoto_3-2.jpgYou start off on a rather friendly pirate ship following their orders. Then when you they hit land you will be let out into the platforming part of the level. Everything is greatly detailed while I was going for a whimsy, dreamy look and feel. There are many ways in beating this level, and many secret rooms and passages. 1st half kind of an adventure theme and then the 2nd half you go into platforming mode. I think it works nicely. Any feedback would be awesome F4F!

UPDATES: so most of the things mentioned on here i fixed. For the most part anyways. The sponge maze I think I made big improvements upon (tweaking the pistons and changing the sponge sizes making it more maneuverable). Went around hiding those sneaky switches, and made things look a little better. No huge improvements on that yet but planning to.

There is a secret jet pack you can get in the sponge maze to make it where you can just fly through the thing if you can't handle the difficulty. It is hidden in the first column under the four dice looking things about half way through the maze. You can kind of see it in the screen shot, its the white dot on the bottom left-hand corner.

Again thanks you guys for the feedback it really helps a lot.

Good Luck!

Hey, Holly. I played it!

The visual look nice in the first 30% of the lvl. But after that the quality goes down. I love the custom square creature under the water. they are simple but look great.
I think you can use the real fish which Mm provides you in the creatures section in pop-it in stead of using the stickers and the sponge. This way will make your lvl look better.
I love your obstacles idea. especially the up-down spiky platform. I gotta tell you the true. It's such a pain trying to finish your lvl. it's so dang hard, dude!

The moving grab able things need tuning. I found myself trying to grab the other sponge but ended up with grabbing the same one like crazy T-T

The spiky moving platform needs to be tuned too. Can you add an extra second when the platform reach the top and the bottom?

hope this feedback would help you get good rating

Keep it up!

Ok just played it.

Very nicely done beginning and obstacles throughout the level.
Although it had to stop playing while near the end because dinner time, I must say the part so far was more than ok.

Only complaint is that it seems indeed to be pretty hard at times.

Finally a level that actually challenges me. Thank you good sir. With that said it is pretty fu***** hard. My advice is to replace some of your checkpoints with infinite life checkpoints. It will cause more people to play all the way through your level instead of losing all their lives, getting mad, and 1 starring your level. The visuals were meh. Try working more on that in your next level.

thanks for all the feedback

SiXth: Steal away my friend.

chazbell: All the checkpoints are infinites.. Yeah and that is the reason this level has a rating of 2 stars, people just get mad and rate it one, which is kind of lame but their decision. Also check out my other levels they will definitely challenge you just as much or even more so.

Thanks again guys

Just played it last night (thanks for the message!) - here are my thoughts from what I remember:

Pros:
- I loved the ship
- It was cool that you added secret areas all over the place
- I liked that the environment changed as I progressed
- Some parts look really cool (the moon and the planet; the ship; etc)
- I liked the idea of having some hidden places with those lights that turn on to confirm that you did what you were supposed to do.

Cons:
- I like difficult levels, but the sponge maze part, and the big spiky square part had me beyond frustrated (I ended up cheating by just going over the top of the two big squares with spikes - unless that's how it's supposed to be done?)
- There were visible switches all over the place - you may have done this on purpose, but then why make your pistons and other switches invisible? Some of your global switches are visible on the bottom of the ocean as well.
- I saw some logic to the left of my screen - I think it was when I had a rocket pack on and was going up a hidden path way
- I fell through the level to the bottom right before the big spiky square part (just to the right of the check point).
- Where the spinning wheel with the two pistons, and gas on the ground is... I was able to jump to the left side and get on top of the level - not sure if that is something the player should be able to do, but if it is there ought to be some prize bubbles up there.
- Some of the camera angles were impossible - like the one when you first enter the caves where you first landed on shore... you can't see those spikes until your right up on them!
- The small boat that takes you to shore could look better...
- When I finished the level, I felt like I wasn't sure what the purpose was for finishing an incredibly hard level

Overall:
Parts of it I enjoyed and other parts I was ready to break my controller. I think there are some things you can fix, and others you'll just have to keep in mind while making your next level. I think this is one of your first levels? If so, it's really not too bad, it just needs a little more tweaking.

Yeah it was fun!

Definitely take a look at some of the cons I pointed out, because if you address those I'm willing to bet your ratings will go up.

I'll take it!

well, due to the search-bug I'm still not able to find you or your level (I'm trying it for nearly two weeks now). Maybee you can post a level, where you leaved a comment - that's the only way to find you and your planet right now...

or the better way (lol - F4F): pls try my Talocan level and leave a comment so I can play yours in return... but just like your level: I have to say that my level can also not be found via the search-engine - you can access my planet when you type "memsut" (my other two levels) into the search-bar because there are only two level-names with this word :-)

I hope I can play your level soon because the screens look very hot...

Okay just checked it out. Not sure what to think of it

Some parts of the level are just gorgeous, the pirate ship and the sunset are great.... others not so much.

Some of the platforming is nice and inspired... others can be ludicrously difficult.

The plot seemed a little odd, i didn't get what was going on, particularly when i heard something about a monkey i'd never seen lol.

Here are a few suggestions:
Tweak the underwater moving piston section, its very hard to get from one to another the way they are.
Adjust the camera angle before the cave mouth, its hard to see the spikes and its a cheap death the first time.
Try and add decorations. The first part of your level looks great, others not so much.
Glue down the tent at the beginning. Minor issue, but i doubt you intended it to be movable.

For F4F could you please check out "Just Play" (link is in my signature). Please tell me if you'd like more feedback on anything.

burn victim -

lol, well thanks for giving it a go .

well that's my attempt of a story, lol. But the monkey your supposed to meet on the ship he's at the very top. You can skip finding him on the ship to move on but there are lots of compartments under the ship.

What parts in particular didn't look very good?
and dDid you ever end up finishing the level?

thanks for the feedback, appreciated.

Finally I've found your level by accident.

But I have mixed feelings about it.
I can see that you have put a lot of gameplay in it and your thermometer is probably really crammed but at some parts there's just a lack of decoration (the crewmembers look a little bit too simple).

I really like the ship and the ocean in the back, the light changes and all those hidden paths. But i think you could improve some things. The gameplay of the sponge-maze (for example), the ocean-floor (your creatures layed headfirst on the floor when I played it), the little hole where the spikes come out at the beginning of the cave (I fell into it),...

I really like the setting and the idea of the level and I don't mind playing difficult levels... but your level seems a little bit "un-tested" at some parts.

The problem with difficult user-levels is that you don't have the same motivation like you have while playing difficult Mm levels. Even when you start to hate some story-level (for example the horrible hamster wheel of death) you wanna play it til the end to get all the prices and you're sure that the level can be beaten because they've tested it a million times. You don't have that price-bonus - so I think you should invest some special time to improve the platforming-part - to have a difficult but beatable level.

I hope my critic wasn't too harsh - I like the level but I think you could make it better.

Greetings
Anna

I did finish the level, and mainly the underwater part with the moving pistons and the very end. The piston part is just a bunch of electorcuted dark matter, and is rather plain to look at. The end part got a little messy with the corners, and there was a music box visible there (you'd hit all the others so i didnt think that was intentional). There is also a bit of dark matter visible as you reach the end.2009-10-02 17:34:00

That sounds good :-) I'm lookinf forward playing your level :-)

(I thought that with the new update of the game a few days ago, the search-engine bug would have been gone - but it's still there - what a shame to MM - I can't understand that they aren't able to fix this quickly. But ok, I think for MM it's not a very "on-top" bug. But for me it's very frustrating, because it happend 2times to me (with the memsut levels too)...

thanks everyone for the great feedback. This is some seriously helpful stuff

I think I need to plan my levels better. At the end over creating this level it got to the point where i couldn't add one more decoration because of the thermo.

But I have something in the works. Thanks to all of you I think it will be a really good level, with some game play that will be very different than the average LBP level.

Hi Hollywood.

I played your level a few hours ago and here is my feedback:

Well, as someone said earlier: I have mixed feelings about it too.

As I first entered the level I thought: "wow, what a nice ship-level - looks really really cool" - but as I reached the island it gets a bit confusing to me :-) The underwater part with these sponge-maze ist just not my prefered game-style because it was way to hard for me - but that's my problem, not yours LOL - but lets say: this section was a bit unexpected - I played this level to the end to be able to give a complete feedback, I guess if this wouldn't have been my intention I had quit at this sponge-maze area. I think I died over 50times in your level and it has some really frustrating parts ^^ - nevertheless it has some nice plattforming elements - the part with the up and down going plattforms with all these sparks: nice idea! But I saw plenty of switches and sensors and stuff like that, which are still visible. This looks very odd, because after I saw your ship-creation my first thought was: "why haven't he build this part, or that part much better? HE COULD HAVE DONE IT EASYLY" - because you have definitely the skills of a good creator - this pretty ship is a very good indicator for it.

I would LOVE to see a level (by you of course ^^) that is 100% based on this pirate-ship! This would be amazing.

In my eyes (and to be honest) this level deserves 2 to 3 hearts - I gave :star::star::star: because I like this pretty ship very much - but nevertheless there are a lot of areas which needs to be fixed.

Btw: the sack-boy bronze-icons: I couldn't find out WHY I have to lit them up? I thought that I would be rewarded at the end for them :-)

neo thanks for the feedback!

that is an interesting suggestion of making a level that is all on the ship. Maybe I will do that.
