LBP to be patched with Sony Motion Control (TGS)

http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/699454/Tokyo-Game-Show-2009-Sony-Press-Conference-Liveblog.html 2:03 LittleBigPlanet with waggle? 2:04 One player points and clicks at things for Sackboy to do and removes obstacles for the other player. 2:04 Seems a little like the passive 2-player of Super Mario Galaxy, where one person collected stars for the other player. 2:04 But you can accidentally kill your partner, as I just saw. 2:05 One of the players removed a platform, and Sackboy died on a pit of spikes. 2:05 Another maze reveals a huge statue with buckteeth. 2:06 The player with the motion sensor must move the teeth for Sackboy to pass. 2:06 She points, clicks, and hangs onto the teeth for the other player to pass. 2:06 Of course, she messes up once and squashes him. 2:06 Laughter ensues. 2:07 So basically, it's LBP with point-and-click Co-Op. 2:07 List of motion control games. 2:08 PAIN, High Velocity Bowling, Flower, EyePet, and other existing titles will work with it, apparently. 2:08 Yoshida says that LBP will be patched to support motion controls. 2:08 It's not a separate game. 2:09 The controller colors can be adjusted to your taste as well. Interesting eh? I'm down. Here's to hoping motion control is shoehorned into create mode as well. You can never have too many tools. =) | 2009-09-24 07:16:00 Author: gevurah22 Posts: 1476 |
Sounds cool. I can't wait for these updates coming with the new technology. | 2009-09-24 07:25:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
hope the motion control like the wii with a add one and not trying to hold 2 controls any vids of it yet? hope we can draw with it like at E3 | 2009-09-24 07:33:00 Author: jump_button Posts: 1014 |
Yeah, can't imagine how it will work. But I think it will be cool and maybe useful in create mode. | 2009-09-24 07:47:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Now that's definetely interesting... | 2009-09-24 08:19:00 Author: Keldur Posts: 628 |
Whoa, that's huge news! Apparently RE5 is going to be re-released with as a "motion control" version... That's a bit annoying that they can't just patch it, but still, motion support is motion support. I agree with all the create-mode wanty. That would be so very cool if they could implement some super-precise wand control in create mode. | 2009-09-24 09:21:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
nice looks(well sounds) really cool | 2009-09-24 10:23:00 Author: rseah Posts: 2701 |
What they are describing could just be done with the popit cursor... Oh yeah, I forgot - it's new tech, we have to shoehorn it into everything quick quick quick, without any thought to what it will really add Sadly we will be seeing a LOT of this when it comes out. Developers will be under pressure from the ZOMG crowd to add this into their games, even if there isn't a sensible application for it. If they add it to create mode then that would be a sensible aplication, maybe - but so would a mouse and keyboard - and I don't see this working better than a mouse for manipulating a pointer in 2d. . | 2009-09-24 10:32:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Surely they'll add the same feature for a popit cursor?? If not, I won't be intrested. | 2009-09-24 10:49:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Well my guess is that they will add the feature for the popit cursor, then add optional motion control for all of the cursor-based actions. However, it's a more interesting sales pitch to show it as new features for new tech. [/wild speculation] I'm wondering how this will work from a play perspective though, will we have a manipulable object? i.e. The creator can determine what can be moved with the popit in play mode, else everyone's levels will be breakable | 2009-09-24 10:59:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
We can change the orb color to our tastes? Now we'll all be looking for that elusive black orb. | 2009-09-24 11:14:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Here's a couple of images of the LittleBigPlanet Motion Control Tech Demo shown at TGS 09, courtesy of Engadget.com http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/sony-keynote-2-003-rm-eng.jpg http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/sony-keynote-2-002-rm-eng.jpg As you can see there's some very clear pink creatures and doors, which looking at the screenshots will react to the motion controller when you hover over them or click on them. The new switches are pink since that's the same colour as the light on the wand itself | 2009-09-24 12:59:00 Author: StevenI Community Manager Posts: 420 |
I'm wondering how this will work from a play perspective though, will we have a manipulable object? i.e. The creator can determine what can be moved with the popit in play mode, else everyone's levels will be breakable By the look of the pink objects in the pics above it will be a switch surely? There will be a lot of broken levels otherwise | 2009-09-24 13:15:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
Does this mean I have to go out and buy the motion control thingy to stay on top of the LBP game? Hm... | 2009-09-24 14:06:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
I think they would release a tool that replicates the same thing as the motion controller but within your popit. Imagine something like the sticker removal tool. just a dot that represents the pointer. I can't see many people intergrating this into there levels if it was solely for people with this controller. | 2009-09-24 14:11:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
I can't see many people intergrating this into there levels if it was solely for people with this controller. Yeah that'd be like adding a photo-taking feature that requires you to have a PS-Eye and doesn't work with a bog-standard Webcam. Sony would never do a thing like that... :hero: I do actually agree with you here though, but then it's in Sony's interests to push this hardware onto people, so you never know. If enough of the kiddies playing LBP convince their parents to buy them for them then I'll sure it will be the new fad, along with water and any other new tools to come out. And regardless of LBP, at some point we will be required to buy these to keep up with the newer games, eventually - lets just hope they don't push it too hard too soon. | 2009-09-24 14:19:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Didn't MM say in some interview that initially they wanted to allow people to manipulate levels while playing them, but in the end that was too complicated or something like that? | 2009-09-24 14:27:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
I can't imagine they would only allow people with the wand to do this. There'll probably be a cursor in popit, just like in create mode, and you can move any object with one of these switches on. If that's the case, I have some big plans for Sacky Potter... | 2009-09-24 14:36:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
Didn't MM say in some interview that initially they wanted to allow people to manipulate levels while playing them, but in the end that was too complicated or something like that? They did. I don't think that they didn't implement it due to it being too complicated though, from what I remember of it, the build they mentioned, you could create as you can in create mode which led to it being to easy to just build a boring line of dark matter to get up somewhere, also you could brake peoples levels to easily by dropping a load of bombs on someones intricatly designed level. This however seems to have solved that issue as it is only allowing certain things you can manipulate giving the player less freedom to mess up the gameplay | 2009-09-24 14:38:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
This sounds like it could be pretty neat! I don't think you have to worry about it breaking all the levels - It's probably either a special material or a special switch. I agree it would be too bad if it forces a motion controller on you - but then again, like rtm said, eventually we'll have to buy one to keep up with the times... Anyways, this is probably still over half a year away at least. | 2009-09-24 16:23:00 Author: hilightnotes Posts: 1230 |
If that's the case, I have some big plans for Sacky Potter... are you thinking what I'm thinking? :kz: | 2009-09-24 16:26:00 Author: oldage Posts: 2824 |
Hold two controllers. ONe for moving and one for manipulating the environment. Sounds fun. | 2009-09-24 18:07:00 Author: Unknown User |
Worse news and LBP update since release. I was hoping this gimmick movement gaming crap wouldn't come to LBP but obviously I was wrong. If they weren't working on great updates like Online Create and Water, I think I would have cried or quit playing. . | 2009-09-24 19:55:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
This sounds interesting, it seems that the multi-genre LBP that they were talking about in Sackcast is coming in the form of Point and Click! @Nuclearfish, I'm totally psyched for that!!! | 2009-09-24 19:57:00 Author: Plasmavore Posts: 1913 |

If they weren't working on great updates like Online Create and Water, I think I would have cried or quit playing. . There is special purple switch which allows motion control, you can select it with the wand cursor and drag or move objects around, maybe even manipulate switches(like 2 way or 3 way). | 2009-09-24 20:15:00 Author: Unknown User |
I been look all over for this here the gameplay <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FeAHhUF7qSM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FeAHhUF7qSM&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> | 2009-09-25 07:56:00 Author: jump_button Posts: 1014 |
Gameplay wise, looks like it opens a ton of possibilities, but sadly, looks like you need a partner to control it. I'm guessing that in a future, they'll let that "partner" be an online guy, so there's no need for you to have someone besides you. From seeing the video again, I think that you could do it all by yourself, by switching between the controller and the motion thing, but that's kinda boring... :/ | 2009-09-25 09:57:00 Author: Keldur Posts: 628 |
We're speaking about MM. Whatever they changed/added to the game, they have done it way better than anyone expected. So I'm fine with that and picture me excited. | 2009-09-25 10:07:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
That looks brilliant. First application that came to mind when I saw this was a complex sliding puzzle, which I am definitely going to make when this comes out. | 2009-09-25 11:05:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
I see some potential here. After RPG's and 2D shooters, this might enable real time strategy and gun-type games in LBP. Maybe some lunatic will even pull off a 3D shooter... | 2009-09-25 11:55:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
Thanks for the video, Jump!! After seeing this demonstration I defenitely see the potential for LBP. As with every new trick, we can expect a whole lot of crap but the ones that are worth it could be something else. A little off topic here but....I really hope they change the look of the design, it looks ri-grohan-darn-diculous | 2009-09-25 12:06:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
"ri-grohan-darn-diculous" I like it Yeah, not sure about the phycho pink used. A little over the top. But seeing the video has got me excited about this. A barrel load of ideas come to mind... | 2009-09-25 12:09:00 Author: wexfordian Posts: 1904 |
This practically doubles what we can do with the game, there are definitely going to be many great puzzle and platforming levels based on this. I know I'm getting it, I already have the PSEye. I can already see people attempting to recreate the game "Operation". | 2009-09-25 19:51:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
If a move able object were made to be in a shape of a cursor, and a magnetic key were stuck on it, and if you made a magnetic key tracker (much like the PTD), you could have one person hold the cursor, which is to aim where to shoot, and another controls a ship... | 2009-09-25 20:24:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |

I toil in obscurity. Don't worry. I'm sure Am? Toor will get plenty of exposure upon release. You can count on a lot of us here to play it. Anyway, I'm liking the look of this. Adding a new gameplay mechanic is always a win in my book. Now we have Water and this to look forward too. | 2009-09-25 20:58:00 Author: persona3fan93 Posts: 155 |

Thanks for the video Jump_Button! That look pretty neat! Lol - thanks. As long as the people here play it, I guess it's been worthwhile. Dude, your LBP project is amazing. You do not toil in obscurity, or in vain | 2009-09-25 21:15:00 Author: hilightnotes Posts: 1230 |

Why is LBP so great? I mean, really, with water, OC and this coming out, I'm hooked for many more months, years possibly. | 2009-09-25 22:09:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
This is why I love LBP. It's quite possibly the only game I've ever played that has kept me hooked for so long. | 2009-09-26 00:14:00 Author: StrayFelisCatus Posts: 178 |

I haven't bought any games since LittleBigPlanet (except Fat Princess), though I did win Killzone 2 in February, but it only occupied me for a few weeks before I started getting LittleBigPlanet cravings again. If Media Molecule keeps adding in new features like they are now, they will have me hooked for a long, long time. | 2009-09-26 18:18:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |

Are you me? lol Except replace Fat Princess with Resistance 2 Yeah, I had a bit of a lapse while I played single player Resistance 2, and multiplayer Killzone 2, but I was drawn right back into LBP and haven't gotten another game since! Some might skewer me for saying this, but I never even touched the single player of Killzone 2  | 2009-09-29 01:33:00 Author: hilightnotes Posts: 1230 |
