Mad Gadder Marathon: LBPC members streaming Live!

Archive: 88 posts

NEXT MARATHON: TBA

NEXT MINITHON: TBA

CURRENT THEME: Alice in Wonderland

Mad Gadder Marathon is an event in which members of LBPC will be streamed over the internet, live, for all to see...for 8 hours straight! Not only will fun and madness ensue, but nifty prizes such as Experience may be given away, from random trivia questions, to down-and-dirty bubble-grabbing highest-scoring winner! The streaming will be happening over my Livestream channel (http://www.livestream.com/lbpcentral_live), as well as the live chat. Marathons per se will be held every couple of months, while smaller "Minithons" will be happening more frequently, seeing as these would be easier to coordinate due to their shorter runtime (about 2-3 hours).

Now, on to the rules, guidelines, how-to's, and all that grown-up stuff! Failure to comply will result in sadpandaface.

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

You need to be a member of LBPCentral.
You need to comply with all LBPCentral rules, meaning you musn't be rude and you must NOT cuss. Keep a clean mouth. Remember this is a family site, and while this event isn't officially sponsored by LBPCentral, we gotta be respectful to all our audiences!
You must have either voice chat (preferred) and/or a keyboard. If not, you better be fast at typing with the PS3 controller! Communication should be kept constant between the Players.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE LIVE STREAM:

Post in this thread with your [PSN/LBPC HANDLE].
Send a friend request to ________. It's a separate PSN ID than my current one. Please, don't PM or add me to your friends request on my aer0blue PSN unless you do want to befriend and talk to me. Keep MGM related messages either on this thread or on the MGM PSN. Also, when you send me a request, add your LBPCentral handle on the message. Easier for me to keep track of things.
I'll compile a list to keep a sort of queue up, so as soon as someone leaves the Pod, I'll invite the next person (be online or you'll be skipped!)

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CHAT:

Simply head over to my Livestream channel (http://www.livestream.com/lbpcentral_live). The chat will always be open as long as an event is streaming. That is all. No PM'ing, no requesting. No nothin'!

HOW TO WIN PRIZES:

Participate in one of the in-game events, such as race levels, survival challenges or bubble-snatching while going through a level.
Be the first to answer a random trivia question in the channel chat (people in the Pod may not participate).

LEVEL SELECTION:

1 Quickplay Level
2 Suggested Levels (Suggested by chat participants)
3 from Level Showcase (Picked by me)

Rinse and repeat. Bonus Levels will be thrown here and there for the prizes.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Themes will be switched every now and then for fun, so come dressed for the theme!
Feel free to provide Mad Gadder Marathon logos! It keeps this post from looking bland.
Running times will most always be on 8:00pm-9:00pm Eastern Time. Fridays seem to be the best days.
I'll be needing one-to-two assistants to help me keep track of things, such as who won what Bonus Level, who's up next on the queue, and so on.
No, you DO NOT have to stay online for the whole marathon. That's up to me.
Please keep all questions on the thread for me to add to this post later on.

LIST OF STREAM PARTICIPANTS:
---
Whew, that was quite a bit, wasn't it? All you have to do is play nice, though. :]
Below is the original post. Please note it's outdated and much less organized. Thanks.

This thread's purpose is to look at everyone's interest before I begin to fully coordinate this project.

I've been planning on doing a video game marathon for a while now and have skipped from game to game, until it occurred to me... What better game than LBP? This means it'll be me, and whoever feels like jumping into my pod at the time. You don't have to pre-register or anything of the sort, although telling me you'll participate beforehand would be great, I could make a queue that way. You don't have to stick around for the whole marathon; you can stick around for as long as you like. If you leave, the next person will take your place.

It would stream live over ustream, justin.tv or something like that. Whatever works best. Regarding levels, at first I thought it'd be nice to cruise the Community Spotlights or the Cool Levels section. However, all those levels have had exposure already, maybe it'd be best to pick ones within the general "Level Showcase" forum, and/or take suggestions from viewers in the Live Chat.

There would just be a few conditions to participate on the Live Broadcast:

You need to be a member of LBPCentral
You need to comply with all LBPCentral rules, meaning you musn't be rude and you must NOT cuss. Keep a clean mouth.
You must wear a top hat at all times. Failure to comply will result in sadpandaface. (yes...it's a joke :b)
Voice chat is not required, but strongly encouraged.

This would probably take place during a Friday. The exact time has not yet been decided. It may also be toned down to 6 hours, or extended to 10. All depends on everyone's interest. Official thread and rules to come later on during October. Again, this thread is to gauge people's interest.

Thoughts, suggestions, recommendations, opinions? Feel free to share them!
Oh, and do vote on the poll.

I am in 100%, even though I don't play well with others, this still might be fun. I'm surprised you put up a thread for this so suddenly.

And was the top hat mention a joke? Because I'm not sure I would participate unless I could be myself.

Naw, no joke! Just a fashion choice by yours truly. Come on! What's better than having four Sackpeople gadding about, wearing top hats?!

...Alright, so it's a joke. Doesn't make it any less cool.

Well top hats seem kind of guyish to me and not very fem, and I happen to be a sexy girly girl, going by my style and physique. Sure, I would use a top hat if I was experimenting with making costumes, but not to wear during play. Good thing you said that was a joke, even though it wasn't. Does that make sense?

EDIT: Besides, I think people would be more interested in watching if there was more diversity and everyone looked different, so they know who's who and each person's personality.

i wouldnt mind being part of this i like just going from level to level, so this could be fun!

So.... lemme get this straight. You're going to be playing LBP solid for somewhere between 6 and 10 hours, stream it, and are seeing if people are interested in joining/watching?

I'd be interested in joining probably, but you'd have to be rather organized with the on/offage... time zones work wonders ya know?

Hey, like I said, it's not mandatory. Everybody's welcome to join in! I'll be having the PS3 displaying on my PC anyway, so eyes will be on the chat as well. You can talk there, if anything.

I'd be interested in joining probably, but you'd have to be rather organized with the on/offage... time zones work wonders ya know?

Yup, that's the only thing. I might do this starting at about 6pm Eastern Time Zone. I'll be testing the streaming in a few minutes.

I want in! I love playing LBP, but mostly with other people, and getting to know others that might be in this group would be fun!

I have both a mic and keyboard, and I'm fine using either (Maybe both! )

I probably will only be able to stay on for about 4 hours max, so...ya

And my time zone is GMT-8, by the pacific, so things could get rusty. Internet speed is fine, and I like playing and reviewing a lot of levels.

Hope I can be in

I know voice isn't required. I was just mentioning that.

As for my time zone, it's Central time in US. I'm not sure exactly what the time zone is called. I just know it as Central.

Testing and it's working splendidly. Will add sound later on, as it's not detecting my capture device for the sound.

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/chill-time-woot

EDIT: Well, that was fun. Anyway, I won't be doing this until I get back from my Ireland trip. I leave the 1st, return the 11th. However, I may log on for fun if anyone wants to join in during the weekend. It'll end up being very late at night during Friday and Saturday, though. If you're on and feel like it, lemme know.

One more thing... I saw 10 guests in the chat. Were any one of those guests LBPCentral users that didn't register, or were they random people?

It is indeed called Central, far as I know

I'll join up too, why not.

Though, I dont have a mic, of course. Never use the blasted things.

Got a keyboard though.

Speaking of keyboards, if you want a USB one real cheap, just go to a Walmart. I got mine for like, 8 bucks. Or was it 10? Feh, same difference. Cheap, is the point. Works fine, too. A heck of alot better than using the terrible virtual keyboard.

It should be noted though, that because the PS3's keyboard interaction fails in an epic way, the virtual keyboard will ALWAYS OPEN UP ANYWAY. I really wish it wouldnt do that.

Well, it will in most cases. I think LBP's in-game chat is the only spot I've seen where it doesnt open that stupid window every time. But for other stuff, bah, it wont go away!

I'm in, absolutely. Got a Bluetooth and a top hat . I only have one complication, I have been having a lot of trouble going to other peoples' pods. No problems with them joining mine, if anyone can help me figure that out, i will be set for a 10-12 hours of play, wanna hit 24 hours?2009-09-24 10:15:00

It's too bad the sound didn't work, so Whaaale and I had to listen to your annoying voice while big messes were being made. You know I'm kidding.
Your voice was like rainbows in top hats . . . . I actually have no idea what I'm saying.

Anyways, this is going to be one big event. Should be fun. I think I'll order a keyboard from Wal-Mart's website. And I sort of assumed already that the virtual keyboard still pops up even with real keyboard, so my assumption I now know was right, lol.

As for world record, this is true. Longest multiplayer game. Of course we would have to have break periods for bathroom, food, and drink.

EDIT: 8 people have posted in this thread not counting aer0, yet there are only 4 votes on the poll. Lol.

I would like to join in as well. An multi-player marathon sounds like a lot of fun. I do have a question though. If more then 4 people sign up to participate are you going to just schedule for different times or will there be several groups, each with one streamer?

Have keyboard and bluetooth. Never been able to try the bluetooth though so well versed with keyboard.

What's the current record? Besides, I've got stuff to do! As if 8 hours wasn't long enough. d:

We'll see what we cook up. I don't mind joining someone else's pod if needed, as long as the person complies with all the rules specified on the first post.

I know how to set the sound up, I just didn't get to doing it yesterday. I will next time. My keyboard never opens up the virtual keyboard, by the way. And... Yes, of course there will be breaks! Unless you keep a bucket nearby for your biological needs. That way you won't have to go anywhere! ...I think I'll be ordering some pizza that day. :]

God knows if we'll run into an amazing level, or into a "Ramp 2".

I'm not going to coordinate more than one stream. Regarding the Pod Party, if you're left out, just wait a bit until one of those three other people leave. I'll organize this a bit more later on when the actual thread is made, along with the list of participants.

I would like to join in if the day comes up and I happen to be online.
Question though: Should those wanting to join add you as a friend?

Not that you would need to keep us on the firiend-list forever. But this way you could put on your profile 'comment' when you are actually LIVE. Then we would know when we should join in whenever we want.

I ask mostly cause out of every LBP site I go to and the PS3. Im on the ps3 mostly. So it would be the easiest way for me to coordinate my time.

I need to have all the people participating on my friends list, otherwise, there is no way for me to invite them or viceversa. I might just make a separate PSN for this, as I don't feel like having my friends list flooded with so many people. Feel free to add my aer0blue PSN if you wanna chill, however. :] Good suggestion regarding the "comment", by the way!

I might try the streaming again later tonight, sound included. Want to make sure everything works properly and comfortably. It'll most likely take place on October 16 or 23. Yes, it's a long ways off, but I'll do some random live streaming every now and then just for fun.

I'll be streaming it via ustream.tv... It's the smoother streaming site I know, much better than justin.tv which was choppy and laggy. And yes, it'll be a tea party! Thus the name "Mad Gadder", derived from "Mad Hatter"! Hrmmm yes. Quite the tea party and merry unbirthday!

Wouldn't mind seeing some cheshire cats or Alice's. :] ...In case it isn't obvious enough already, the theme is Alice in Wonderland, for whoever wants to play along!

One more thing: people who are willing to participate, add me to your friends list here on LBPC. That way we can keep in contact through the LBPC chat.

How is the level selection going to work? Is going to be using the Quickplay option, or will levels be chosen. If it's the latter, I think that a list of levels should be compsed: a play list!

As for my own participation, it could happen. However, I'm grounded for, uh - stuff. If my punishment is lifted by game day, then I'll see if I'm in a LittleBigPlanet mood. I've got a mic and a keypad, so communication with me shouldn't be a problem. Lookin' forward to seeing how this all plays out.

We could mix it up.

3 from Level Showcase
2 from Suggestions (could be from a pre-made list)
1 Quickplay level

Rinse and repeat. Keeps variety, I think.

"You need to be a member of LBPCentral"
That I am my good chum!

"You need to comply with all LBPCentral rules, meaning you musn't be rude and you must NOT cuss. Keep a clean mouth."
Ooh, no potty mouth. Expect to hear me use the word fudge in replacement for the F word a lot then. I always do that in school lol. I hope that's alright lol.

"You must wear a top hat at all times. Failure to comply will result in sadpandaface. (yes...it's a joke :b)"
I'll try to make a special tophat that fits my character.

"Voice chat is not required, but strongly encouraged."
I have a mic and if I'm playing with someone else I always have it on!
I'm quite talkative and quite humorous (if I may say so myself) so I think you'll enjoy my company (or maybe not ) .

Make a pink tophat! And then as an added touch put a pretty flower on it?

How's that for a girly tophat?

I think it's just fabulous. <_<

I'm in even though, like gofurr, I don't have a mic or keyboard.
You do too have a mic. You're just too lazy to ever charge it.

You damm dirty. . whale!

Yup, that's the only thing. I might do this starting at about 6pm Eastern Time Zone. I'll be testing the streaming in a few minutes.
Perfect. Gives me just enough time to put in a good nap (school makes me quite tired) before starting the marathon.

@aer0blue:

That is a good idea. I could definitly go as Alice. As for level choice, randomly choosing a level might also work, as in no one knows where we'll be going until it's selected, then again many might complain about that. And what about level difficulty? Will even a single level be a hard one? Not that it matters to me. Just curious.

@ChristmasJew:

"You ***** dirty. . whale!"

Don't forget, this is a family site and many would not improve of this. Just being friendly and pointing that out.

Also, your comment towards me was a little disrespectful. A sarcastic smart allec reply is not neccessary. There are people of many varieties on this site, and besides aer0 already said he'd like to see some Alices. If you didn't mean it like that, well then sorry because that's how that came across.

By the way, USB-cable-powered headsets work, as does the PSEye. Bluetooth headpieces for cellphones, as well. Go ahead and steal one from someone you know! Say it'll be for a good cause--a cause like...attending a tea party!

You've obviously never seen Planet Of The Apes.

Because there's a very famous scene where the human captured by the apes says "Get your paws off me you ***** dirty ape!". Here's the clip.

It was just joke (in reference to that scene).

Only the last part was sarcastic, as I would never say fabulous, but I do think my idea might look cool in its own way. It was not meant to be disrespectful, and I'm sorry you took it that way. You said you liked "girly" things and it's obvious you like the color pink (*looks up at quote*) so I just though you might like the idea of a pink tophat. And the flower addition was just to add originality, to your hat.

I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Yes, I am familiar with Planet of the Apes and that famous part, and I know it was a joke. But just because it's from a movie doesn't mean it's okay. People have used words like that on this site before and I have seen mods point that out to people and editted the post, which doesn't surprise me considering the site guide mentions this.

As for the girly thing, I apologize for the misconception.
I'm sure you can see how I got that impression, but my mistake.

@Spider-Jew:

I which one I'm wanting to find. There was recently a pod and sackperson decoration contest at LittleBigWorkshop and someone did an Alice in Wonderland theme that was just amazing, and had the best looking Alice in Wonderland costumes I have seen in LBP. If I could find that one, I think that is the one I would use, although I might have to resort to another one.

Well I'm sure whale wont take it the wrong way.

We're e-buddys, per say.

I'll be back home soon, so I might be doing something this week. Not the marathon per se, but a sort of "test run" with me and three others, whoever wants to come along. Not sure when exactly, though. Perhaps Thursday evening...8pm Eastern or so.

I might just use this same thread for the rules and guidelines. I'll go ahead and edit the 1st post. Creating a new thread would be rather pointless and this is more of a "Project", so it seems appropriate to have the thread here.

Anyway... Suggestions, comments, concerns, ideas and so on, bring 'em forth! The more the better!

The original post has been updated. Please don't sign up for the queue yet as I don't have a concrete date for the event. Do keep in mind, however, that a Minithon will be happening before the MGM. Ideas, questions, and so on, shoot!2009-10-14 02:59:00

Updated the first post with the official date for the first Minithon (Thursday, October 22, 9:00pm Eastern). The queue/participants list will open up as soon as I make the new PSN ID, which will be done on Monday or Tuesday.

If anyone can make a logo for the Marathon & Minithon, I'd appreciate it!

I'll be there.

And as for that logo, I can try to make something. You'll just have to give me an idea of what you want (like I said on MSN).

Good news, hey, it's sooner.

Apologies for any inconvenience, but something came up.

Same time, 8pm Eastern. I'm running a test run in about an hour. Get everything set up, make sure the hardware works correctly. If anything, I only have one real problem...

I don't know how to expand the window that streams on ustream, so I end up looking at the game on a tiny screen. I have an alternative to this... I output my computer's video to my HDTV, so it's easier to view there. However, it'd be better to just expand the window on the PC. If anyone has experience with ustream, or is bored enough to figure it out, let me know.

I can't make any promises. If anything, it'd be an improvised on-the-moment minithon like this Wednesday's. I'll be busy on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'll see what happens on Thursday, though. ... I hope that wasn't confusing.

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/lbpcentral-live I'm setting up right now for the test run, so the game should be up and running in half an hour or so. Everyone's invited, just be sure you comply with all the rules and guidelines. Just... Be nice, that's all! Oh, and do make an account, otherwise I won't know who "guest11223" is. ;]

I told you I'm not home on Wednesdays.

My dads off days for this week changed from Tuesday and Wednesday to Wednesday and Thursday so I wouldn't have been able to attend on Thursday either (he just told me today).

Maybe you can change it to Friday just for me.

Whoa, that looks good Morgana. Thanks a bunch. Now! I have some bad news, some good news, some more bad news, and some possible good news.

Bad news is... ustream started giving lots of technical difficulty, from failing video, to distorted audio. Then we started getting connection problems for some reason. Oh, technology.

Good news is... I found an alternative. http://www.livestream.com/lbpcentral_live That's the new URL for the stream. That site seems way more stable, and the image seems crisper overall. No static, no noise. We just have to see how it fairs with 3 other players in the pod. Hopefully my bandwidth can take it.

Bad news... No large monitor display for me, so I get to stare at this tiny, tiny 100x100 screen. Of course, I'll be splitting the video signal out to my HDTV, so that's a fix, you could say. Also, for the time being, voice chat will be cut off entirely until we're sure the internet connection for the game & stream is stable. Voice chat tends to take a chunk of bandwidth, so it's better to save it for performance.

Possible good news... Well, Wednesday's stream might actually come out well! Whoo-hoo!

I'd like to thank Gilg, CJ and Stilletos for helping me out testing my hardware tonight. It certainly wasn't easy... Thanks!

Now, to recap... new site: Livestream (http://www.livestream.com/). Make an account, be cool, remember the new URL for the channel. http://www.livestream.com/lbpcentral_live Wednesday is still on, and we can only cross our fingers!

Does anyone know what time Eastern time is in relation to GMT as I'm on my mobile and can't be bothered to look it up atm (lol been a very long sressful hard day at work )

Think it someething like GMT-8 or something like that (and this is coming from someone who ran the Time Zones Thread lol)

Only I'd love to take part or watch. But its gonna be something like 5am so I probably won't be able to....

If your GMT is -8 then the marathon will start at 6 for you, instead of 9.

EST = GMT-5

So that's like...2 am Thursday...

GMT is the time for the whole world. o_o

But I assume you are asking what time it would be in Britain.

Well I know that my British friend is 5 hours ahead of me, so yeah it would start at 2 AM for you.

It's fit for when the participants in the marathon can be on, and mainly when aer0 can be on.

So. . move to America.

Lol I started a GMT war lol

ARD is right about BST but for the rest of the world they still call it GMT all year round I think.

Anyhoo, I've been at work since 5am and only just got in to our hotel and its like 10pm atm (were staying in cornwall) and I start at 8am tomorrow morning and won't be home till late again. So I'm guessing no all night minithon for me tomorrow night lol

Have fun though guys, and if there is one on a weekend one day or when I ain't been working so hard, then I'm sure some hardcoreness all nighter can be had by the dorien

Well, it was a failed attempt. Livestream kept lagging behind no matter which setting I changed (I even set video quality down to 1 on the settings) and ustream didn't feel like upping the framerate. At all. Even on the lowest video quality, too. Now, I know I don't have the best upload rate around, but it should've looked way better than that. It couldn't be the setup, because I'm watching the whole thing on my HD and it's working fine there. Then again, y'never know. I'll give it another try sometime soon, but seeing how this is going, I wouldn't keep my hopes up.2009-10-22 03:16:00

I guess I'll go nap then since nothing is going on at moment. I was about to do that until I remembered it was Wednesday, but I suppose I'm not missing anything at moment after I've checked ustream and livestream, plus what's been said here.

Off for a little rest then. ^_^ Exhausted from my level I've been working on most the day.

Remember will, you don't have to be an expert player for this. This is a casual event, not an expert event. Mainly casual players.

We'll also most likely be playing casual levels.

So this isn't a competition by no means, but rather a fun get together of LBPC members for a really long live multiplay.

I could of sworn I told you this on PSN. You must have forgot, lol.
