Expanding levels. . loss of Wobble-ization

Archive: 9 posts

Calling forth the knowledge of all great wobblers. Can you explain this phenomenon? I've been working on a level and as I progress. . . variouse wobble bolts stop working. In order to get them to start up again I have to slow them down. Actually it doesn't look like its just wobble bolts either. . .its winches as well. . . and probably pistons. I've had to slow them down 3 different times! As it stands now they will no longer opperate unless their speed is at least .4 seconds- and If I have to make them any slower than that; things just won't look right.

My guess is I've got too much going on in the level, but if anybody can tell me how to speed my bolts and winches back up (hopefully without killing level details) then I would be indebted.

Have you spent more than 160 hours building the level without keeping the pause feature activated? Doing this will cause all the mechanical objects to freeze and unless you capture the whole level and transfer it to another moon space, the level is essentially *******ed.2009-09-24 03:24:00

Wow, what a horrible thought. I don't think its been that long. . . . but it is possible I suppose. Anyways, they have frozen a few times now, and each time the solution has been to slow them down by .1 second. Thanks for that warning though. . . I'll definetly be more aware of how much time I spend creating with it un-paused.2009-09-24 15:08:00

Aww, not another one. I'm so sorry to hear this. I've recently encountered the same bug, its absolutely horrible and it only gets worse I'm afraid.

Do me a favour though will you and send a bug report to MM at the mail below. I'm under the impression they're not really that into fixing it, since it sounds like quite a major task and as it's only been encountered by a fairly small minority, they can get away with not dealing with it. So the more people that report it the better. Tell your friends!

Lol, thanks- perhaps they will be hearing from me. . . perhaps not. I think Ungreth is on to something. I copied the whole level and transfered it to a new moon space. (it was really big i was worried i'd have trouble placing it.) Anyways, it looks like I can get all my machines back up to speed now. I would guess the 160 hour machine life span applies when machines are set to a 1 second or greater speed. If you set it faster than that, you might burn through 160 hours a lot faster. This might explain why my machines jumped back to life after I slowed them down. . . . I dunno. . . there are pleanty of holes in my logic here. . . but copying the level seems to have done the trick. Paranoia will keep me from creating unpaused. .. and i'll probably only set my machines to their intended high speeds just before i'm ready to publish or play test.2009-09-24 16:18:00

Send it to them anyway man, if everyone just accepts the workaround, it'll never get fixed.

That's exactly what I've done since the "big freeze" hit me while building my first level, and I think it's generally considered best practice by most experienced creators around here too. You learned the hard way I guess, but at least that fix worked for you.
