Hi !

I was planning to try and create a very good 4-5 star level this time around as I feel I have learned enough skills to pull it off this time.

However I want to start my level with a cutscene telling the story.

How can I best achieve this?

Let the player start in a moving carriage for example and use a camera tool looking up with the bullfrog perspective on the action scene?

And use zoom in's on certain scenes with proximity switches?

just need some help here because I want this to be awesome

There are other ways to do cut-scenes using magic mouths but in my mind this is a bit ugly unless you actually want them to say something. The best way would be taking controlling of sackboy using a carriage and camera points with prox switches.
Or you could build and sticker lots of scenes. and either emit them in or dissolve them out, this has the advantage of sackboy not moving.

You can use magic mouths to flick though different scenes, or make an elevator going horizontally or vertically on the back plane, then cover it with a thin or thick layer if you don't want the player to be seen. Add a camera so you can set the view distance/angle. If you make the elevator out of dissolve, then dissolve it at the end of the run, the player can escape and play the level. Have a look at Mars Attacks 1 and 2, they both have different ways of using an intro, you might get some ideas.2009-09-24 11:24:00

If you want to SHOW things - i.e., fly around the level and point things out that advance the story - I'd definitely go GrantosUK's route. I've only just started fiddling with that concept myself, so I couldn't add anything to his suggestion if I wanted to.

As for talking? I've found that adding characters makes Magic Mouths far more useful. Dress yourself up as a different sackperson, take a picture, then sticker that onto a block. Corner Edit the block until it's shaped like a sackboy.

Marasz's Talking Tool is a good thing to find and try for controlling Magic Mouths. There is also a tutorial on exactly what makes Magic Mouths mess up, here on this forum. I'll linky when I find it again.

Whatever you do, I wouldn't make any conversation exceed the Mm limit of 8 Mouths talking back-to-back.

Also be warned, some people quit and 1-star the instant they have to read anything. I think it's realistic to want to shoot for a 10% heart-to-play ratio for levels you assume people will only play once, and a much lower ratio for levels people will replay. It's good to shoot for 5 stars...but it's also good to have sub-goals on the way. For me, 20 plays and 1 heart (mine) says "I need to fix this" louder than the star rating.
