The ADS being sponsored on LBPC are killing me!

Archive: 19 posts

From discounts to local singles, they got it all!

Local hot young singles

Oh LBPC, do you think that's appropriate for this site?

Now don't get me wrong, I like hot young singles, but really?

Kelly5012 says:"LOLOMG! Hi Alex! I love LittleBigPlanet and I am
happy to be sponsored in the LBP Forums!...So,...May I see your--OKAY! That's enough, but tell me, do you think these ads are safe for the younger viewers on this board? Post a reply answering the question.

And I'll see you in LittleBigPlanet!

It's even funnier when the ads do with the thread, for example, if we all posted 'pancake', this thread will have pancake ads. I think.

But yeah they're kinda annoying. ?:|

It's an advertisement, do you seriously care?

It's quite easy to just avert your eyes from them.

That or you can go put on AdBlocker.

Either way.

In the "talk like a pirate" thread there was adds about pirate related things...

On themarveloushat's imaginary thread there was adds about pancakes...

This thread mentions: "Local hot young singles" so what adds do you think this page is gonna get?

CC has requested in the past we do not use adblock, as the sponsors are a source of income for the site. Even if you choose to use adblock (which is fine, I'm guilty myself), we'd appreciate if you didn't teach other members how to use/obtain it.

If the ads bother you enough, you can donate to the site and the ads will go away.

We can swap ads if you want. The ad I get here is for CSS specialist.

Or toothpaste and some obscure online game.

And hope for companies who want to advertise on this site, instead of having to rely on google ads.2009-09-23 17:08:00

lol Wex

I donate so I don't have the ads to bug me. Small price to pay for a bit of sanity. If they really bug you enough - it's a nice option to have.

I never even noticed the ads before I was a donor. I knew they were there, but I couldn't tell you where they show up.

By the way, probably the only reason you're seeing ads about hot young singles is because you made a thread about ladies on lbpc and one about a LBP porno >.>

Remember to keep it clean, fellas.

The ads are there to help out towards the LBPC server fees. A daily click helps a ton! Also, I believe the ads are determined by the Google Searches you make, or websites you visit. CC explained this once, but I don't remember much about it.

The way I see it, get used to it or get out. This will probably come off as harsh, but I'm just getting the point across. We don't pay for this site. Some of us donate, but we don't have to deal with server fees or site upkeep. We don't pay for any of the great features offered to us. The occasional contest and quality support are nice touches too. If it means that I have to deal with a little ad at the top of the page, so be it. I don't mind at all. Ads will never be beyond normal moral bounds, so if you have a problem with one of them, it's most likely because you are being immature or otherwise. If it bothers you, ignore it. It's honestly not that hard to continue scrolling down past that top section of the page. The ads aren't intrusive, they aren't even popup. They don't make sound and they aren't overly flashy or gimmicky. Some sites are a pain to use because of pop-ups or ads that disrupt the site's flow, but that isn't an issue here. The old saying "If you have lemons, make lemonade" doesn't even apply here. We're basically being given Red Delicious Apples, and you are still trying to make lemonade out of them.2009-09-24 01:52:00

Lookie here. These ads pop up by the subject being discussed. In the costume thread, there's always ads for Halloween (and creepy vampire fang implants). In the pirate thread, ta-da!: pirate ads. Now, since you're mentioning "hot singles", there's an ad appearing in that context....

Strange, it says Canadian singles...

Iron Maiden.

Let's see an ad about that
Iron Maiden.
Iron Maiden.
Iron Maiden.
Iron Maiden.
Iron Maiden.
Iron Maiden.
Iron Maiden.
Iron Maiden.
Iron Maiden.
Iron Maiden.

See if it works?

Remember to keep it clean, fellas.

The ads are there to help out towards the LBPC server fees. A daily click helps a ton! Also, I believe the ads are determined by the Google Searches you make, or websites you visit. CC explained this once, but I don't remember much about it.

I made a thread about this a few months back (remember, the SEARCH button is your friend ), as I completely agree that some of them seem inappropriate and un-related to gaming in general. The topic was locked after some unfortunate responses, but CC gave a clear explanation of how the ads work and why he asks that we live with them and not block them.

Here is is response from that thread, so that there is no more confusion.

CC wrote: Well, other than filtering out ads we feel are inappropriate, we have no control over what ads are placed on our site. Google fills the slots with ads it deems appropriate based on site content, but there's also a "highest bidder" component that can frequently introduce ads that seem irrelevant.

In regards to blocking ads, please don't. We earn money in two ways: donations and advertisements. If you donate, you don't see ads for your "donor period" (which is generally very long), but if donating is not an option, please just deal with the ads. It's really our main source of income, and believe it or not, it goes back into the site directly. We could make life hard for those who block ads, but we choose not to because we respect your right to block ads where you see fit. We still ask that you don't - we get paid through both ad views and ad clicks, and that money helps us deliver more to the site. Even I don't block them.
