Mythicos 3: New Burning Starpoorjack
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll113/theonioncult/APhoto-5.jpgAn experiment in visual minimalism and free roaming in LBP, this is the 3rd chapter, and the 4th installment of the Mythicos series.

I will f4f anybody who REVIEWS this level and gives a brief thoughts/pros and cons sheet, as well as a rating out of 5. thanks!
all
Where we last saw Leo, he had been teleported to a strange new world. A dry, desolate world full of sand and devoid of life. Mythicos 3 continues after an unknown period of Leo being stranded here.
There is lots of exploration to be done throughout this chapter, and lots of bonus points to be found. Please rate this level on a scale of 1-5 and reply back to this post!

idk if i even wanna play after the strange and abrupt twist in the previouse one... lol

i guess i could give it a go tomorrow morning =/

i used that lighting effect to make a icon for my level "Legend"

black silloute of a sackboy holding a sword up while standing on his turtle steed all heroicly with the yellowish background

sadly i may not be publishing it i spent so long on it but looking back its just not what i want, looking forward i dont think i could continue the series.

sorry trailed off there. anyway, heh, i think ill have to play the first two again just to keep the story fresh and flowing smoothly.

Ok - played through this the other day and it's got some great stuff happening in it.

+ Great atmosphere - Nice use of the silhouette style (very similar to Pyramid of Anubis by Nattura)
+ I like that it has one style running throughout the whole level - last two in the series had abrupt material and style changes that made the levels feel a bit fused together.
+ Nice material usage
+ Cool story - not so out there as the last one but very interesting nonetheless.
+ I like that you have enemies in this one. I think a few more encounters with them would make the level feel more interactive in places but they are nicely done.
+ Like the "secret" jugs.
+ Increased platforming from your previous levels is nice to see.
+ Boss is interesting and a cool idea.

I had fun playing it but there were a few things I didn't understand or had issues with.

- long areas of no interaction again. You upped your platforming which was great but you still have long areas of corridors with not much in them (just a personal preference of mine to have stuff to do or see when in a level)
- Once in the "temple" it's very unclear which direction to go to. I figured it out by wandering around but I'm not convinced the typical LBP player will have the patience for this and your plays/ratings may suffer for it.

Overall I think it's a very pretty level with nice atmosphere (your strength is visuals) but minimal decoration or details. The story continues to be interesting, if a bit unorthodox. I gave it 5 stars. Thanks for sharing it!

This level's strongest point is the way it looks, the art style is fantastic. More people need to realize that sometimes less is more. In my opinion, I find the concept of having stories in lbp to be trivial. Its hard to delve deeper into the story while keeping the fun factor high. I also find that its hard for me as a player to get into the storyline, because I cant grasp the emotions of the characters. With that said I don't really enjoy the story-heavy levels. I wish there was more gameplay and less running around.

This level (along with part 2) is flat-out beautiful. Yes, there wasn't a lot of decorations - but the visual style was mesmerising and gave the feeling of an ancient emptiness - which suited it just fine.

In the first of the series there were a few things that sort of took me out of the immersion a bit (which I mentioned on it's thread), however the 2nd one REALLY drew me in, and this one has me looking forward to the next one with baited breath.

One thing to think about for the next one - in any area that you're walking a bit longer distance... maybe throw in a trap or something moving - just to REALLY create excitement.

But I loved it, and gave it 5 stars and a heart - fantastic job.

Hey! I didn't know you were on this forum. That's good. I hearted your level the other because I stumbled upon it but I didn't have time to play it.
I'm gonna play it today and send some feedback.

I liked the level!
There are some really good things.
First of all the setting and the visuals, then the story, that gets more deep and has a good final philosophic twist.
Then the scorpio boss and the hidden spike traps.

I didn't really liked the very open ended nature feel of the level, but I understand that it is an experiment.

Overall as I said the level is really good, even if I still prefer the first ones of the series, but you still manage to stay fresh even with an ongoing story of 4 levels already.

5 stars for you!

This looked visually good, altough a bit empty on some parts... but I won't complain much about that, since I don't know how full your thermo was.

About the gameplay, in my opinion, it wasn't enough "spreaded" you had some platforming at some places, but on other sections, there's no action at all.

Ok, those were the cons. I'm sorry if I sounded a bit negative.

But I really liked the boss fight and the story keeps getting more and more interesting, and those two things were really highlights.

+Great story
+Great visuals too, but sometimes, I would have appreciatted more shapes
+Enemies! Hidden traps! Adrenaline!
+Hidden treasures!

-Long sections on wich you just walk (after the boss fight, for example)
-Not enough gameplay

I rated it 5 stars because it's still better than most of the levels at page 1, but I would honestly have rated it 4, because it's good, but It can be improved.

I hope this was useful to you! And if you're willing to return the feedback, I'll PM you when my new levels is released!

I finally played this level and I am not regretting it now. You level was simple, beautiful and it showed that you evolved as a creator. Your best yet.

Pros:

- Nice scenery and ambiance! I love it. You have this way of making temples, I dunno. You simply get it.

-Light/mirrors room. You reminded me of that temple in Ocarina of Time. Very nice!

-I'm not really a story guy and there's more platforming in this one.

- I really feel like going to Mythicos now

Cons:

- Maybe a bit too much of backtracking. Not a major complain here. I just felt it would have benefited the level to be more expeditive.

- The visual quality was a bit inconsistant. I felt the stair case rooms on the left were feeling empty. As for the rest of the level, it's mostly great but I would have took even more bubble vases to find!

Continue your good work. I would hope to have even more platforming in Mythicos next time. I'm sure this can be included in between the story bits

this level has a really nice visual flair to it and a great story, which is always nice

Having played part 2 I was eagerly awaiting the continuation of the story and it didn't dissapoint.

The visual style is very nice but the gameplay is sometimes a bitt dull.

Not that it's bad or anything but you have to walk for a long period of time before anything new pops up.

Nevertheless, 4 stars !

F4F pick one of my levels in my subject, thanks !
