The American/Canadian Water Beta Invites Thread

I have locked the other two water beta threads as both of them simply consisted of non-beta members pestering those who were in the beta to break the NDA and leak information. While this was going on, Americans were trying to discuss when their wave on invites would be sent out. This thread will be used to discuss the next wave of American/Canadian invites.

Sam_Protagonist posted the following on the Workshop boards. Thanks to mnimmo and hilightnotes for the quote.



Sorry for the delay in replying folks. I contacted the North American team directly after my last post in this thread and have yet to receive a reply, however like you I find it odd that out of the 400 people from North America due to join the test not one was from this forum.

It will be late tomorrow (Monday) before I hear anything more, but I will be double checking to see what's gone on.

From what Sam says, he may have another update on that today. For those of you Europeans who haven't gotten in on the initial wave, hang in there. There will be many more chances to get invited.

Update:
The NA invites will be send out this Friday or Monday.
The next batch (500 additional people) is probably coming on the first of October and there will be one more round after that, according to Sam_Protagonist on LBW.

Betas like these shouldn't be a random drawing. That's just my opinion. I'd doubt we would get rid of all the leaks, but there would be a lot less of them. And, I also think MM shouldn't announce these betas. Just send out the invites in private without these big announcements.

No. Media Molecule knows exactly what they are doing here. They use the beta as marketing at the same time as being a beta. It's pretty intelligent actually. The fact it's announced and that there's leaks excites people and they stay on board. Also more people are buying the game. They create hype with all that.

If that wasn't part of their marketing they would never in a million year shout it on the rooftops like that and send random invites.

id say it's a smart move on MM's part. im sure announcing it to everyone draws in a ton of people and lots of attention. and the leaks, even though they might be against the rules, probably help.		2009-09-21 23:25:00

I think there would've been as much hype for water if there was a beta or not, actually. And I honestly don't know of a case where someone has bought the game because they heard about the water beta.

I also think sending out random invites is a mistake. I would rather choose the best of the best and have a less buggy game in the end.		2009-09-22 00:04:00

Based upon what exactly? MM have almost no relevant information to base that decision on. Being able to make fun enjoyable levels is far from what makes a good tester. And if they were naive enough to think that, how many people would they really be able to hand-pick? Not enough to make it worthwhile. Better to get more in and get more people testing to uncover bugs.



Has sam given any indication what sort of timescale they are talking here. Surely someone knows what happened to the invites? Can it really be that hard to track them down?

agreed...plus it wouldn't be fair for most of us who buy a lot of their DLC...adopted sackboy as our ps3 mascot, etc. to be tossed aside in the betas in favor of people who for all we know may suck at testing the beta (an excellent creator isnt a perfect person for the job....can still mess up)		2009-09-22 03:16:00

First of all, it was a good call to make this thread. The original threads were getting rather messy.

Second of all, if we're getting anything sent at us, it'll probably be on Thursday like it was when the initial beta keys were tossed around.

I have to agree with rtm223 on this one. Beta testing has absolutely nothing to do with how good of a creator you are. In fact, it's more likely that the people goofing around doing things most creators won't do will find the bugs and glitches.

Back on topic though, If those numbers are correct... then Canadians/Americans as a group have pretty slim chances on this round.

Oh... and before anyone goes bashing the thought of Poutine, everyone thinks it sounds gross at first. Then they try it and never stop eating it after a "night out on the town". It sounds gross but it is really amazing... can't say the same for Celine Dion though.		2009-09-22 04:34:00

Yeah, 400 does seem pretty low, but you have to remember that only 600 were sent out to all of Europe (and whoever else Sony decided to group in with Europe). There's not much else to do now but anticipate not getting in and being pleasantly surprised if you do.

I have Forum access but no Beta, so I won't have a problem.

If anyone else needs to contact a BETA member via the Beta forum, sign into the European Playstation forums, and send them a PM. (They'll get the PM on the beta forum.)

Make sure you tell them that you're in the beta. (If they don't believe you, give them proof.)

A few days ago, Sam said so.

Yesterday Sam said they'd be sent out to NA today or Monday.

Today Sam confirmed it as Monday.

On LittleBigWorkshop, the news gets around really fast because

A.) Sam Tom and Spaff post there regularly.
B.) There are people like StevenI and Mnimmo there.

I am Pretty much all I've done is drown sackboy over and over. When water comes out and the drowning animation is glitch free - you know who you can thank for that

It is quite addicting, I'm fighting the boss with VS only now. It's little challenging making constant rushes for the VS weapons and not going inside to drive the spike back up. Unfortunately that too becomes a going through the motions kinda battle.

On Topic: Just to keep on topic, which date does everyone think the NA Invites will get pushed back to now? Taking all bets! Seriouly though let's hope they don't get pushed back again.

Well, I looked on the LittleBigWorkshop and someone claims to have received a code already. I can't say I'm surprised. I've never officially been invited into a beta; I always get my codes from friends who have extra. That's the only reason I'm in the MAG beta as of now. From experience, I've learned to not be upset about these things, but you can't help but feel a bit disappointed.

To check if you have forum access, go here, (http://community.eu.playstation.com/playstationeu/?category.id=c_EN_LBP) and if you see a section called PRIVATE: LBP Beta, that's your hint that you've been chosen.

Alright, I just checked the beta forums and I in fact have access. While I'm pretty happy, it saddens me to say that this confirmed the rest of you failed to get in. Hope you make the next wave...really, I do. I should check me E-mail now to see if they had sent that yet...

Didn't get it myself, but a friend of mine did, so I was able to try it out at his house. In all honesty, the two of us don't spend any time trying to find bugs, we just mess around, and if I get it, I'll still just mess around with it. =P

To those who are sad that they don't have it: be happy. Being in betas always ruins the surprise of the first release. In the meantime, think of ideas for levels or minigames you can make using water, so you'll be more prepared on release day!		2009-09-29 00:08:00
