Sackboy getting squished in flying vehicle

Archive: 6 posts

I've been creating a flying saucer in my test level, for a level I'm going to make.

It flies, is easy to control as of now before tweaking and is shaping up to be pretty good.

What I have is a hatch that will close on sackboy...and when it closes, a jetpack is started to allow flight controls.

Now when it is flying in an upright position, he is fine, however sometimes when it tilts to the left or right drastically (the saucer) he comes up on an edge or something and gets squished...

Do you have any tips to prevent this? I have him boxed in as much as possible to prevent movement. Increasing his quarters actually makes squishing easier.

As of right now, it looks like stability is the key to preventing squishing...which really shouldn't be a problem. I haven't even added any weight for stability yet.

So what do the LBP masters say about squishing in flying vehicles?

In my experience, Sackboy tends to get squished easily if he pushes against any corner that's less than 90 degrees wide. There's an additional problem with moving vehicles because if Sackboy is moving too fast and the vehicle suddenly stops, he will have a tendency to try to phase through whatever material he's pushing against, which generally results in a squish death.

Can you post a rough picture of what the contraption looks like (more specifically the part surrounding Sackboy)? It would help to figure out what might be going on.

Sure, here is a rough diagram of the main pod container sackboy is in. http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/3959/diagram.png2009-09-21 15:44:00

Well, upon first inspection the culprit is probably the corners at the bottom between the grab material and the circular floor. You should try to make a copy and straighten out the inside of the circle (so that the area Sackboy is in becomes a square/rectangle) to see if it fixes it.2009-09-21 16:20:00

i think if the whole inside was circular it should work. The circle wouldn't has acute corners.2009-09-21 16:40:00
