MYST Finale

MYST Finaleladylyn1
Ok so i finally uploaded the finale to Myst...

It has 4 different endings! One correct and 3 failure endings...

It all comes down to who u trust???

Remeber the whole point of MYST was trying to find the missing page for Atrus, if u didnt do that then...

Anyway, without spoiling anymore, have a blast on the endings. I spent quite a while making this decent and full of detail because i realise that MYST severly lacked detail!

Its a bummer that this won't fit into the other level, as its really rather short, just adding the conclusion. But you did a good job of wrapping up the series. I'm not sure why the correct ending is what it is... as one of the other 3 is rather similar, but its your level not mine

EDIT: (Just realized this was a F4F thread, so decided to give better feedback, and actually play all the endings)

On my TV at least, i couldn't see the whole "Ladylyn1", (i was missing the 1). I like how you split the word Myst into red and blue lettering... but i'm not sure it necessarily works as your other Myst badges are all the one color.

Now that i've seen all the endings i have to say you did an amazing job there. I particularly loved the way you designed spire, gorgeous. D'ni and the other age (i can't seem to remember its name offhand :shame also look terrific. I wasn't expecting to see you go into so much detail considering how briefly and awkwardly Myst ends in the computer game.

For F4F is it possible you could wait a bit? (still finishing up a level, hope to have it done within a week) If not, thats fine, i was going to play your level anyway (i mean, how could i NOT after playing the other 2? )

Thanks!

Yeah well the two endings in D'ni depend on whether u got the missing page or not- 1 of which i'd still consider to be bad, because of the inability to return to MYST.

And yeah i had a very simplified version of this conclusion in the actual game but it really didnt work well.

With the extra space in this level i was able to go a little further and show what the ages are in the blue and red book... which obviously i wouldn't be able to if id put the ending in the actual game.

Oh its, Spire and Haven.

And one last thing... this level surprisingly is MAXED OUT!

Sorry missed a few other points...

the 1 in ladylyn1 IS missed out... its also missed out in the intro.

and yeah the badge with the red and blue symbolising the two different books.

For waiting, i only have 1 week so u must be quick!

Just finished the multiple endings, here are my thoughts:

Intro:
- I liked that you included the white page along with the other pictures
- The red and blue MYST was a nice touch, although some people might not pick up on that (their loss)
- The low pitched "THUD" before the light comes back up was also a nice touch
- The music was a good selection in this area

Spire:
- Probably my favorite ending simply because it looks amazing
- You created the overall feel of Spire very well .. it's a shame that thermometer isn't unlimited because Spire would be a great LBP level
- The lightening flashes were a nice touch since we couldn't see any "lightening" (actually magnetic fields) underneath the floating islands
- The character of Sirrus is hilarious! I loved how he and Achenar just stand there and mock you. Nicely done with how the screen fades as he tears out the pages. Hmm, I wonder if you could add a sound in when the pages tear? I think the history pack might have something?

Haven:
- Again, nice rendition of the original
- I still wish I could see that ship in the background, but I understand thermo issues
- Achenar's words were spot on when talking about the beasts, etc

D'ni:
- The music felt right as I entered D'ni
- The dialogue was perfect
- My favorite part was probably when Atrus links back to Myst, then comes back to D'ni! NICE touch!
- I liked the possibility of two endings here (Mad/Happy Atrus)
- The option to link back to Myst to check things out was brilliant .. I thought I had high score until I realized I had to die again to go back to D'ni lol
- I should mention this as I'm sure most people won't notice .. I could tell you looked at pictures/videos from D'ni for inspiration (as you did for the other ages as well) because those pillars were fairly accurate (for LBP)

Overall:
- Amazing conclusion to an amazing tribute to an amazing game .. not much else to say
- 5 :star:'s
- Tagged: Brilliant (2x), Beautiful
- Hearted
- And thanks for the shout out in your level description!!

Thanks for the feedback!

Wow... lots of information.

Yeah i did try my best (from the pictures i saw) to recreate all the different islands- Spire, Haven and D'ni.

*If anyone hasn't played MYST then I should point out that you dont actually get to see Spire and Haven at the finale of Myst, but instead you only enter these ages in the 4th game.

Lol, i like the characters too (also a note here, that Squirlin designed the faces of these characters! Ty Squirlin!)

Woo hoo! Been waiting on this one for a while now, so I have lots to say. I have never played the myst games so I had no idea what to expect (or which brother to believe for that matter).

Love the conclusion intro. Your story techniques are always amazing.

The ice ending was beautiful. I outright hated the villain for laughing at me (in an enjoyable way I suppose). The music and lightning effects were a nice touch too.

A little shocked when the red book turned out to have an evil brother as well. Still loved the evil laugh when you finish a 'bad' ending. I was a little disappointed that none of the 'beasts' the son talked about were actually in this world, but apparently your thermometer was already full from the awesome background graphics and such.

I thought it was funny that the guy was so upset about being trapped in D'ni if you don't have the right sticker. I mean the place looked so incredibly cool and detailed. Besides, if he really wanted out wouldn't he have told you the truth about his two sons? Maybe the actual story covers that a little more. Other then that, it didn't feel like a bad ending. I think it needed another evil laugh at the end, or maybe some crying effect.

The good ending was interesting. I liked the disappear/reappear effect on the father when he destroys his sons. I never did figure out how to link back to mist though.
Over all a great conclusion level. Still enough for one last puzzle, and plenty of fun for anyone that likes multiple endings.

Thanks very much...

WARNING SPOILER ALERT!

In the actual game, there isn't an intro as detailed as mine, so u dont know that much about the past.

Instead you learn more about the past events through reading the red and the blue book during the game. This way it sets up the story for you to choose a good or evil brother- which is what i aimed to do. However i didn't have the space to write the entire scripts the brothers said. I therefore decided to make an introduction to kind of set up this theme with good vs bad.

So in the finale I therefore tried to imply that Atrus had learned that BOTH his sons were bad around the same time that you would be in Myst and solving the puzzles. Thus he did not know this when he first told you about the issue in the intro!

About the D'ni endings: Atrus is stuck in D'ni (and wants to get back to Myst) but he cannot without the missing page which is locked in the Myst vault. Then when you fail to give him the missing page, he is devastated and annoyed that you went all that way and didn't even do what he stated was most important. He is consequently locked in D'ni, with you, forever.

The good ending: you complete his Myst book (which is on the table in front of him) and therefore he is able to link to Myst and burn the red and the blue books. For you to link back to Myst and check out what he's done just grab and HOLD the right page of the book on the table! Simples.

Thanks again for playing! I would recommend the actual game if u enjoyed this!

Just out of interest, how many people actually found the page necessary to succeed on getting the correct ending???2009-10-20 20:38:00

I guess I can say I get it... but I guess since I went and began the other 2 just to play this one... that I just got a little lost. I will have to play the main game later just too slow of a pace for me I guess. But I must say as a fan of the original having read the book I can say you did a good job recreating this wonderful title I really liked the tasteful effects so good job and five stars for the effort.2009-10-21 00:12:00
