Sackboy has to go to bed because it's late in the evening.
He then finds himself confronted with the boogeyman who will stop at nothing to scare him to death!

Can sackboy survive the night and escape the boogeyman?

scary scenes (especially near the end)
jet pack based puzzle (not too hard)
platforming - adventure gameplay
a cool twist and change of scenery halfway through

I played your level a few hours ago and here are my thoughts:

The look of the house is quiet good - but it could use a bit more detailed stuff (deko & stickers). There have been a few locations where I stucked because I just didn't know where I have to go (bathroom for example after using the left located switch) - maybee a few more hints would be great, or even a directing-camera-angle to show the player the next way.

What I've liked the most: the atmosphere that you used in the darker areas in the hospital - nice lighting!!

Over all a nice level that could need some more stuff to increase the quality a bit - because the story is nice in my view.

Nightwing, I'll be honest, I think you've got a lot of tweaking to do on this level before you start showcasing it. Here are a few gripes I have experienced which might help you on your way to bringing it up to the high standard or your Aladin level.


The level is dark. Waaaayyy too dark. Add some more subtle lighting to guide the player.
Use the mouth tool's camera angles to highlight action scenes such as the boogeyman appearing for the first time.
When you head for the attic, I can see the jetpack I need to strap on but I am killed by toxic gas every time I come close to it. As a result of this I cannot proceed any further in the level


I realise without having played the whole level this probably isn't the kind of feedback you would prefer. Please believe me when I say it wasn't for lack of trying that I couldn't see all that your level had to offer.

Tighten up the issues I've highlighted above and then I'll gladly have another crack at it. Otherwise, all I can say for now is good concept, effective presentation but sadly, flawed execution. Let me know how you get on with it.

strange feedback but thanks anyway to both of you, i really appreciate it

the decoration I thought was sufficient because yeah, it 's supposed to be a dark and scary level so you can't see much detail when it's dark.

I didn't know about the mooth tool camera at that time but will use this in later levels.

The only real problem is the one you had with the gas, it's like this :
you pick up the stuff and the flashlight and explore a bit the attic to the left.

you then suddenly see the boogeyman appear and in his gas form he pursuits you as you fly away to the stairs again because some text tells you to go to the bathroom next. you can even skip the attic part and go from the start to the bathroom to the right, avoiding this scene and so you are able to play the level till the end !

It's strange you get killed near the jet pack because normally the gas / boogeyman is only activated when you are near him, not at that spot when you pick up the flashlight and jet pack.

I will test this tomorrow as most other people don't seem to have this problem.

as for the instructions in the bathroom: it clearly states I need to find a switch to remove this electrical showerdoor / curtain (not quite sure) so I presume the player remembers that when the switch is pulled the door will be open / removed.

I do however am very happy to see you have played my aladdin level.
What made that level better than boogeyman? I'm very curious about that

well, what about this: if you connect the lever at the bathroom's wall with a mouth-tool, you can a) point the camera-angle to the opened shower-curtain when the level is pulled, AND b) connect this lever with a nice sound too, that sounds like "ok, I heard it, it has to be open now" - it's always a good hint for a player when he hears that something happens due to his lever-/switch-pulling...

I just want to mention, that I died at the jetpack scene in the gas too, and I wasn't able to get to this point again due to the gas - so I didn't know where to go from there... after that I walked down again to see if there is more to see...

So yeah, it looks like most of what i'd wanna say has been said by others already. You have a great atmoshpere in this level. Lot of cool creepy touches too. . . the ball dropping slowly down the stairs . . . lol! NIce job with that kind of stuff sir! But yeah others have said its kinda dark sometimes. . . this can make the flow of the level confusing, you wanna have an idea of where to go or what to do next. And i'd've liked to hear a little music. . . nothing full on if you don't like, you could take one of the alterable songs and just have one part of it going. . . and you could even set the volume low. . . lol, I like music! Thanks a lot for the advice! I guess the magic mouth is really a good solution to showing the player that they have to go back down again and to the right.

You're supposed to go back, because otherwise you will die. the whole point of that scene is that people need to run away as soon as the boogeyman in killer gas appaers.

once more thansk for the great advice, I will use the tips received here to create a very good wild west level / horror themed level next.
