About Republishing Without Deleting Original Level

Archive: 12 posts

I have been questioning myself about this for quite some time- how do you republish without deleting your original level? If you change the level's name, description, icon, move it, unlock or lock it, etc. it automatically republishes the level, but if you want to manually change something inside the level, like adding an object or altering a Tweak Menu, as far as I can see you must delete the original copy and publish the new one, to republish the level's contents. This would be a fine idea, except for the catch- you lose all hearts, plays, tags, comments, etc. on the level. I know there is a way to republish the inside of a level without deleting the first copy, because I've seen it done on literally famous levels. Does anyone happen to know how to do this? 2009-09-19 23:39:00

Hello.

When you publish the new level, just put it over top of the old one. You can actually publish a completely different level over top of (thereby replacing) the old one.

Just copy the level to your moon if you don't already have it there. Make your edits, and then find the publish option. When prompted to place the level, try putting it in the same place as the level that's already published. It will give you the option to overwrite the level.

Hope that's all you needed.

Select the level from the moon, select publish, select the already published level and press x. Everything will stay; plays, hearts etc...

EDIT: ^
Beat me to it...

Does that actually work? Most people will add/remove a small chunk of DM out of view somewhere and republish. I've always wondered if there was a simpler way, but I'm hesitant to believe you...

When I experimented, I simply put a small block of DM out of view somewhere near the entrance of the level, I would just move it a little bit and republish and it brought in new plays.

I understood that - that's actually what I do. I was referring to Dhawkin's post that said simply moving the level to a new location does the same thing. I'm hesitant to believe that.

It probably used to, back when locking, unlocking, making copyable, and making uncopyable bumped it back up to Page 1, though I think now the only way to make it bump back up to the front of the Cool Pages is to do what you've said before, making small changes that don't make a difference in the level.

For a level to pop again in the cool page you need to save at least once. You don't even need to change something. As long as you enter the level, hit pause, hit "save level" and you're good to go.

All other ways of republishing will not bring your level on top floating. (of course if you save the level in a new spot it will.)

oh, so just moving it will only put the level to the top of "newest page" ?
when i move it, it does say that it has been republished.

You can republish it with absolutely no changes and it will say that, but it only bumps it back up if you make a change to it.
