Logic problem
Archive: 21 posts
I'll try and explain this as simply as I can. Lets say I have several buttons. I also have a light. I want to be able to jump on any button, and the light will slowly turn on (so there will have to be a speed switch turning on the light. I don't want it to be instant). The light will then stay on. However, if I jump on any button again, whether it be a different one or the same one, I want the light to slowly turn off. I'm guessing I'll need to use state switches, but I've never really made any complicated logic before, so if anyone will be able to explain how I could do this then that would be much appreciated. | 2009-09-19 18:28:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
I'm going to draw up a picture in Paint, and I'll update this in a few minutes. EDIT: http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/6623/setupu.jpg Hopefully that is what you wanted and it makes sense. | 2009-09-19 18:49:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
i'll make one for u | 2009-09-19 19:01:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
That helps. However, a couple of things: - What is the easiest way to make an OR switch so that I can keep adding extra buttons? - How exactly do I make a state switch? | 2009-09-19 19:02:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
That helps. However, a couple of things: - What is the easiest way to make an OR switch so that I can keep adding extra buttons? - How exactly do I make a state switch? To make an OR switch with many inputs, rtm223 has a good method for that lurking around here somewhere. Or you could just attach six pieces of something with magnetic keys to them to flipper pistons and put them all just out of range of a key switch. Several people have made great State switches, you can find them by searching for logic switches in LittleBigPlanet. If you can't find one, I have one that I made. | 2009-09-19 19:06:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
hey im making one... u will be able to copy it. almost finished | 2009-09-19 19:06:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
i got all my logic gates from some guy with a name along the lines of grey_falconM. they are very nice, very small, very easy to use, and paper thin, so you can just jam all the guts of your level wherever! | 2009-09-19 19:15:00 Author: mattbru77 Posts: 143 |
ok i made it and it works really well any chance i can add u? to make finding me easier? u will be able to delete me straight away if u want | 2009-09-19 19:16:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
Well, I'm sure everyone else's designs are great, but I can probably make you the simplest and most thermo efficient design (using the method of rtm's that bsprague mentioned above). I'll go whip it up real quick. As an example, I'll include way more buttons than could be necessary just to show it's flexibility. Expect winches. Be back in a few. | 2009-09-19 19:20:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
well mine is made | 2009-09-19 19:22:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
and it is really not very complex, uv got a challenge to make the most simple one! | 2009-09-19 19:23:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
helpful??? | 2009-09-19 19:30:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
Well, it may not be the simplest for the sole reason of there are 10 inputs. That's way more than you need, but it shows the general idea. I'll add the pictures and then try to explain. Initial ON state: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1372&d=1253385601 ------------ First push, OFF State: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1374&d=1253385617 ------------ Second Push, Back to ON state: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1373&d=1253385609 ------------ The idea is that the bottom, thin piece of cardboard is pulled into the DM by any one of the buttons. This brings a green key into range of the one shot switch. The two small cardboard squares above the DM and to the far right are a very simple state switch. The third cardboard square (middle-top) is the speed switch to control the light, which is top-left. The basic idea of the whole system is that a strong winch will overpower a weak piston, but they cannot push outward. 9 of the buttons are hooked up to winches, via a directional setting. Hitting any of these will overpower the piston and pull the cardboard in. The 10th button is hooked up to the piston via a directional setting, so that if it is hit, the piston will pull the block in. If you'd like me to actually send you the object, I can do that. Edit: It has been added to my vehicle showcase level, just so I don't have to publish it on its own. I have a group of copyable tutorial levels, and I dropped it in the one called "Smarter Vehicles...". It's just floating up above the truck. Copy it and you should be able to find it easily. | 2009-09-19 19:40:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Why not publish it as a copyable level? thats what i did | 2009-09-19 19:42:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
Why not publish it as a copyable level? thats what i did I don't have room. I suppose I could add to one of my tutorial levels... Edit: to response below... the locked levels are part of a project. They are published because I have no room on my moon. I will go ahead and add this to my already copyable vehicles showcase level. To get this item, just look above the truck when you copy it. Give me a few minutes to do so. | 2009-09-19 19:46:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
what about those locked levels? just save one to ur moon? | 2009-09-19 19:47:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
I checked out ladylyn's. It's definitely does the same thing, but I'd prefer my design on account of it's small size and emitter-less design. That's not to mean his isn't just as elegant, but I try to avoid emitter whenever possible. | 2009-09-19 20:02:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
lol, 2 brains work differently... i use emitters where possible!!! Btw, does urs only dim the light when u step on the right button? | 2009-09-19 20:07:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
lol, 2 brains work differently... i use emitters where possible!!! Btw, does urs only dim the light when u step on the right button? Nope, all buttons do the exact same thing. Check it out and it'll make more sense. | 2009-09-19 20:11:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
yeah just did... i've never thought of using that one-shot device with a directional switch before but might just have to start using that! | 2009-09-19 20:13:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
Thanks to everyone for your help. I'll go with comphermc's solution, because it seems the easiest and thermo friendliest to use. But thanks ladylyn all the same. | 2009-09-19 21:19:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
