For those that don't know, "Boss Rush!!" is a compilation of bosses submitted by lbpcentral users. These bosses were judged, and the winner was titled with "Final Boss". A warning to the casual player: these bosses can get tough! It's no easy task to beat 'em, but in the end, it's all worth it (how clich?). So I urge you to go take a look at this amazing community project! Credit is given where credit is due. I'd also like to thank Gilgamesh, Bridget and dcf for helping out with ideas, submission questions, and so on, not to mention being patient. You guys rock!

The original thread for "Boss Rush 3!!" can be found here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=292539) (which discussed the rules, among several other things). BR1 and BR2 are currently locked due to a bug introduced with a patch. Both levels acted extremely funky (for example, the boss area disappearing along with the boss once killing it, etc.) They'll be fixed and unlocked eventually. Any bugs, please let me know on this thread. Good luck and have fun!


Oh, boy. Where to start?

It seemed the world was against the uploading of BR3.


Numero uno, I mis-calculated the BR3 submission dates... Compilation began alongside my summer math course.
Numero dos, a slew of bugs kept slowing production down (more on the blug (bug+blog!) post (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/blog.php?b=667)).
Numero tres, busy, busy, BUSY!! LBPC Moderation, school, my job and a LBP project of my own had considerably slowed the process down.


I'm not trying to give out excuses for the delayed release, merely explaining what happened. Still, I'd like to apologize deeply to the people who were waiting for this for a long, long time.

Also, I won't be coordinating BR4. Giving it to Bridget. I'll be happy to help out if needed, however.

I can't find Boss Rush 3. It won't show up for me anywhere. There's just Boss Rush 3 Templates, PassProtect, and Boss Rush 3 entry, which is Bridget's boss. I tried both of the searches you mentioned.2009-09-19 06:57:00

Very likely the search engine bug (Mm really needs to fix this one!). Go to any of the published levels that you can see under the PSN: LBPC_BossRush, and in the pop-up menu select: "Find more levels by this author". That should get you to where you want to be.

Exactly what I did. Found Boss Rush 3 template and then just clicked find more levels by this author.

Loading Boss Rush 3 Stage 1 now! OMg! I just heard my sackboy come out of the gate! Must go plaayyyyyyyy

Edit: It might just be me but Ninjamicwz's boss was very frustrating to fight because of the poor camera. It kept on zooming into me and then zooming out onto the boss, this happened a number of times when I was practically right next to the boss.... it also made me die a couple of times.
Also when you get to the edge of the Thor boss, the camera tends to get weird as well.....
But it just might be me and my stupid internets

That can be tweaked. I don't have my PS3 with me right now, so I'll do it sometime during the weekend. Sorry for the inconvenience. Sad to see there are still issues.

Mechanism used to prevent players from cheating with other raceflags. However, it wasn't supposed to activate until the boss is defeated. I had even made sure it was all clear. Might've been an upload bug. I'll get to it ASAP.

And after I found that one, Burnvictim tells me the crazed ninja boss from Stage 3 is broken, so I went and checked and the weapon isn't there2009-09-19 08:17:00

I didn't have any trouble with part 1 (nobody can beat my score, ha! ). There was an inaccessible boss in the 2nd part and the ninja weapon seems to not be emitting on Crazy Ninja in the 3rd part. Also, a minor point, Bridget's boss icon doesn't seem to be disappearing after beating it.

Speaking of which... I'm surprised. I usually have more trouble with Bridget's bosses than on this one. It's not easy though, but a good challenge. I must admit I was kind of afraid to walk underneath that door considering what happened the last time...

Works good now, but there's still a bit of an issue after beating Bridget's boss. Whatever detects that the boss is dead is either delayed or a sensor switch with too small of a radius. I went back through the boss arena and it detected it thankfully.

I see you had to cut back on Ra's scorching ray attack plasma spam. It's no biggie though, Bridget's boss makes better use of plasma balls.

Now try to beat my score, lowly mortals.

I'll take a look at the switches handling the boss death. I can turn up the emitters on Amon-Ra, I think. I'll try. :]

Well, that's unfortunately the fate of most levels with large amounts of work put in. At least I thoroughly enjoyed the Boss Rush and think it's the best one yet, even including the couple of hitches.

It is sad though, because a lot of these bosses are amazing creations and the authors deserve to get some recognition for that. Maybe someone should do a video showcase?

I think most of the issues have been fixed now. Only one that comes to mind is some new emitter bug. It's emitting one of the blocks (that restrict access after beating the boss) in the floor/wall. Now, as far as I know, the game does not let you do this if attempting it on your own (as in, you cannot emit an object into a space already covered by something else). Second, I remember I didn't set the object to emit there... Sheesh. Fix one thing, another one breaks. It's crazy!2009-09-22 20:51:00

I like Whaaales idea.

I also haven't gotten around to replaying it yet, but now that the bugs are fixed I can try to finish the last boss in stage 2, and beat stage 1 and 3 also.

EDIT: I think the reason it doesn't get much notice is because much like the extreme platformers, it targets a small audience. People don't like difficulty anymore.

I am really POd right now. I just went through Boss Rush one again, and this time to the end boss, but after dying, it wouldn't let me pass the 3 stone heads anymore. They move out and go through like the first time, but it won't let me out. I can't see my sack person behind the stone to what is going on, so then I turn back to go out of the mouth and I come out the one in the back plane. No matter which one I go through, and no matter whether I jump or not or how, I can't get back pass to the boss.

I'm so POd right now. I went through all of that for nothing with a decent score, only to not be able to go on.

Sadly, that's one of the buggiest bosses. Not because dcf made it that way, but because it acted weird as a captured object when being pasted into the game. I can take a look at it, but can't promise anything... :

Sorry to hear that as well. Maybe we should just delete the door or the thick layer parts of the door.

From the description it must be the right-most part of the door that is jamming. (This is the part that slides into place to form the left wall in the boss room.) That's the only part that can actually block sackboy's movement (intentionally, so the player can't leave the boss room once he's entered it). There are no solid obstructions in the cerebus head.

I could do a video, not a problem. I can stick it on Youtube and use that..... comment-y thing to show who made what boss when each one shows up.

Not hard to do, moreso a matter of waiting for Youtube to upload them, haha.....

I don't know what could be causing it, just buggy like aer0 said. Whatever it is, it is behin the cerberus heads. I went into costume view behind the heads in hopes to see something, and there is a wall there that blocks me from going back to the boss area.

What happened is that I entered the boss room and activated the checkpoint, which is in the area with the cerberus heads. I can't go back because I'm in the boss room now, which makes sense, so that is not where the problem is. I go through the right cerberus head after they slide out to the actual battle behind them. Eventually the boss drops this snake thing with flowers on it that didn't do anything at first, but I was trapped under it and tried to find a way out and got squashed trying. So this takes me back to the checkpoint before the cerberus heads of course. So after the heads slide out again, I go through the same as first time to get back to the boss. But this time the sackgirl does not come out into the boss area like there's something back there blocking me now. I eventually went into costume mode after leaving that message here and I'm still not sure what's keeping me stuck in the cerberus area, though it looks like a wall, and whatever it is bumps me to the back plane after I go into the cerberus mouths, so then when I walk back out I am always walking back out of the back plane head.

Yeah, I spent a long time on the Cerebus head to make sure the plane switching worked properly. It's designed to make it so sackboy can enter in any plane from the left. It forces sackboy into the correct plane to fight the boss. The movement of the heads is just an illusion done with a proximity switch. The real obstruction is a wall that moves left and right. When sackboy is in the cerebus head it moves to the right, opening the passage into the boss. Once sackboy passes this point the wall slides left, sealing sackboy into the room. Something must have knocked this wall out-of-position, causing it to become stuck in sealed mode after the first cycle.

I'm really sorry about the bug. Has anyone else beaten the level? Maybe this was just a one time fluke? At any rate, if Aer0 wants, I can make a modification to the wall, replace it with a ramp or something to eliminate this bug completely.

If you go through it again, try to avoid struggling if you get caught in the vine attack. The vine will fall apart after a few seconds and the less you struggle the greater your chances of surviving. Of course the best option is to avoid getting hit by the vines altogether

I'm pretty sure it's not a recurring bug. I could have a copy of the level locked and copyable, though. That way, you can modify whatever you like, publish it, I copy it to MyMoon, then publish that copy onto the existing BR3. Whoa, did that make sense? But it's an idea. I don't mind doing it at all.

Finally back from my business trip. I played through stage 1 and trashed the high score. The only boss I can't beat on hard is Anubis. I didn't run into a problem with the door in Persephone's room but the wheel is definitely messed up. The attacks don't occur at the right seasons which makes it very difficult to know when to hit Persephone and have her spit out a seed. Stupid capture bug. 2009-09-27 13:58:00
