Activating a health bar....

So i have a sequence where a boss appears from the skies and then does all these bossy things.

The problem is the player can shoot the boss down while it's still appearing.
I don't want to increase the number of hits because it would just get too messy.

Is there a way so that even though the player hits the boss the paint switch doesn't activate?

(I'm looking for a better alternative compared to my "rap it around with dissolve material and dissolve it once the boss finishes it's opening sequence".)

Edit: I want the player to use the paintanator to shoot the boss btw

You can try this, I don't know if it would work, I don't even know if this is possible. LOL.

So you have the paint switch (I assume) on the boss, make this a one-shot (I think) and have it so every time he gets hit it activates x once, everytime.

Now, create (off screen) two pieces of dark matter, next to each other. On one, have an emitter that emits paintballs, shooting the other dark matter, on this other dark matter have the paint switch with the amount of times the boss needs to be hit to die.

After this is all done, you'll have the same thing you have now, but what you can do is have a piece of wood, blocking the two DM squares from each other, thus blocking the paintballs from hitting the paintswitch, when the boss finishes the opening sequence the piece of wood would move out of the way, allowing the boss to be hit.

Whaaaaale's solution will work out just fine and is similar to what I was thinking up. But I don't know if a paint switch on dark matter works out so if this gives you problems then just put a block of some material on top of the dark matter that has the paint switch on it.

Just make sure to set this second paint switch up to destroy either the protected creature brain on the boss or dissolve the boss once finished and you'll have a nice clean set up.
