About LBPCentral Chat

Archive: 42 posts

LBPCentral Chat is an all-new way to interact with your LBPCentral Buddies in real time. Now, remember, you must be registered (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/register.php) in order to take advantage of the Chat feature, so if you haven't already, now's the time! Anyway, let's go over a few of the features it offers:

It works right out of the gate, with no software to install or plugins to add to your browser.
It integrates directly into your vBulletin buddy list, so you have control over who can IM you and who can't.
It has built-in status options - you can set yourself as "Online", "Away", "Invisible", or "Offline" at any point depending on whether or not you feel like chatting. You can even write your own custom status message to clarify your status.
It understands if you're logged in or not, and will update your status automatically based on that information. As soon as our site reflects that you're online/offline, so will the chat.
There are a few useful buttons on the left that allow quick access to common functions. Those buttons are completely customizable on our end, so we have the option of adding/removing buttons at any time.
It follows you wherever you are on the site - if you are chatting with a few buddies and you decide you want to check out the Level Showcase, those chat windows will follow you so you can continue your conversation.
It also follows you from tab-to-tab - if you like to have multiple LBPCentral windows/tabs open at once, it will update conversations across all tabs, allowing you to continue your conversation from wherever you are.

If you don't like the chat, you can easily disable it. Click User CP > Edit Options, then scroll all the way down to the "Enable LBPCentral Chat" option. Once you pick "No" and save your changes, you don't have to worry about it ever again (unless, of course, you change your mind later on down the road - in that case, you can easily re-enable it).

It's pretty darn cool but I have one little problem wich might be just on my end.

There are times when I'm typing that it will randomly switch to another chatwindow mid-sentence, even if that person has not said anything.

I have some minor things that are probably the programs fault and not your own, CC.

-I still have no sound. It doesn't really matter a whole lot because I'd probably turn it off, but I know you were working on custom sounds or something.

-When I browse, I tend to open up a bunch of tabs and the slowly eliminate them by reading/posting in those new tabs. I noticed that if I open a new tab, the chat in that tab will not update if I'm having a conversation in a previous tab.

Still, it's very convenient! Thanks to all who donated.

-----

I'm wondering if it'd be possible to integrate chat into the experience system, even at a small scale...? Obviously we don't want people to abuse the system, but clearly there will be fewer PM's and Visitor Messages now.

I expected some people to be irritated/annoyed by it, so I am currently working on an easy way for you to disable it/enable it at your leisure. Give me 30 mins or so and I'll update with more information.

And Adam9001, there is absolutely no need to be so harsh with your words. People aren't going to agree on everything, that's fine. It's the way you express your opinions that makes all of the difference. For example, here is one way you could have worded your post:

Personally, I don't really like the new chat update.

The little tab at the bottom of the page can be frustrating and isn't really pleasing to look at, is there anyway to get rid of it?That's all you really needed to say to get your point across.

Love the feature, just like on Facebook

It's a bit buggy and windows keep popping up with messages I've already read and also sometimes when I have a new message the window keeps going off when I'm trying to read it
And it doesn't show some friends online even though I'm talking to them in the chat lol

Although it has some flaws, I'd much rather have it than not.
One of the best additions ever imo

That's due to your friends setting themselves as "Invisible", so they seem offline even though they're not. Regarding the other issues, they're releasing new updates to this thing on a fairly regular basis (another one is coming in early October) with lots of bugfixes and new features, so it'll only get better.

STFU.

You know you were wording that to offend other users, or in the pathetic hope that CC would think that your word is law and remove it. Listen to what BSprague said, because he is correct. If it irritates you to reply in a sensible, non-offensive way, especially when talking to an Admin (CC is admin, right? lol)
Then you are gonna be banned soon. And if you are like that in real life, your gonna be beaten up soon....

edit: I forgot, really good update CC, thanks

The Chat Bar doesn't seem to work on the PS3 internet browser. Its not such a big for issue for me as I usually use the PC but it might be a problem for some other LBPC users. I realize that it is not made to support the PS3 browser but I just thought I would let you know.

Ps: Nice feature CC

Edit: Sometimes the toolbar appears but doesn't work properly.

Alright, after some digging, I was able to resolve the issue of me not hearing any of the sounds, and I got it to work. I'm not sure which of these things fixed the issues, but one of them did:

I disabled and re-enabled flashblock
I added lbpcentral to flashblock's white list
I updated quicktime

Whatever I did, I now hear the little "dibbedupe" sound when I get a chat message.

----

I also found that the little icons on the bottom left are customizable... interesting...

It was probably the adding of LBPCentral to FlashBlock's whitelist. The sound is generated by a tiny hidden flash file that loads when the chat bar does, so using flashblock with LBPC means that sound won't ever load.

Thanks for the great new feature Cartman, and anyone else who contributed! It's much easier to chat through this than over visitor messages!

One minor problem i found though, if you make a dotted line such as 'Well........take a look' it automatically hyperlinks that text to a blank website. Not so much a problem more than a small glitch.

Otherwise, its A-OK!

Thanks man. You say it like it is.

Adam, if you keep talking like that everyone on the forum will hate you.

"Please don't irritate me"
Well for god sakes, don't irritate this entire thread.

"What a pathetic waste of money"
You are one of the rudest people I've ever met.

Yep, that's a known issue with ellipses ("...") that will be fixed in the next version, which releases soon.
