Problem at the very start

Archive: 16 posts

Hi sackpeople.

I just bought LBP today, and I'm very disappointed that I can't pass the first level. I googled for it, and it seems one or two people had the same thing, but... Here's what's happening:

When I get my sackboy, another sackboy falls down. I can only control the one. When I pass the gong (just before the emotion tutorial), the screen gets locked so it still shows the dead sack on the "Introducing" box. If I add another controller, I get the 3rd sackboy; the 2nd is still dead.

It's as if another controller is connected. In another thread somewhere, the problem was resolved by unplugging the Guitar Hero controller. But I do not have one. The only thing that I think might even be relevant is my PSP that I registered with my PS3, but it was off at the time.

Help!

Nothing else plugged into the USB ports like PSEye cam/microphone/etc.?

If not, then I don't know what the problem might be or how to fix it? Never heard of this.... very weird indeed.

Try shutting down the console and turning off the switch in the back, and physically unplugging the system. For some reason, this resets all the controllers (at least it has for me each time I've moved my ps3). This may reset whatever "controller" may be conflicting with the first slot.

Hope you get it sorted out.

Do you have a sony PS3 remote? I had a similar problem several days ago. For some reason, the remote button was blocked in a "on position" (these buttons are VERY sensitives btw).2009-09-17 18:20:00

The only thing plugged in was the USB cable with one of the two controllers at the time (the other one was wireless). I only own the two, so I have no clue where the 3rd sackperson came from.

Apart from PSP (which was off), I do not own any other PS3 peripherals. No remote, either.

I'm in a middle of a move, so I can't try the "get out of the car and get in again" approach until tomorrow, but I will as soon as I go back to the other apartment. Thanks for the suggestion.

Did you perhaps do an online game?
I wish... My 'net connection won't be installed for another 10 days.

ok, i think i got your problem figured out. you said the other controller is wireless. that means you have a wire controller yes? if so unplug it, that should take the 2nd player out of the picture
also, wait a few seconds if you did it while playing for the game to register that that controller is "off"

PS: Dude, LBP is all about community play. Wait until you see how awesome it is when you can see what kind of levels everyday, ordinary (which is to say not the programmers or designers of the game) people make

No, both are wireless, but one was charging at the time. And when I turned both on, I got three sackboys, one for each controller, and one extra dead one.

Yeah, I was looking forward to that. One obstacle will be down in a week: my new apartment will have an Internet connection installed. The other obstacle I totally did not expect. Hard to do community play if I can't get off the introduction level...

Anyway, I'll be in the other apartment tonight, so I'll report tomorrow if anything suggested here worked.

Well, tried restarting the sysyem (no power switch tho, so I yanked the cable), i tried starting with the controller both cabled and wireless, I reinstalled the game, I even cleared my PSP registration. I'm still stuck with the dummy.

If it's relevant, I have the slim PS3, Japanese version of the game, with sysyem language set to English.

Well, I'm all out of ideas, but here's one last one:

In the system settings tab in the XMB, find the option to reset the PS3. I'm not sure exactly where it's at, but it's in there somewhere. This should reset the PS3 back to how it was when you got it from the store. This might delete everything you've got on there currently. If this doesn't resolve the issue, then you need to probably contact Sony, or just take the game back to the store you bought it from to exchange it.

Thanks to everyone who chipped in. Apparently it was a bug, since it disappeared as soon as I got my 'Net working and downloaded the newest update. Yay!2009-09-25 20:22:00
