Let's hope they don't wait too long, Harrison isn't getting any younger!!
But with Lucas developing the story again it could take an eternity and still end up being mediocre.

What I would love to see is what they did with Last Crusade..
Last Crusade was kinda Spielberg apologising for Temple of Doom so I'm kinda hoping
this one will be Spielberg apologising for Crystal Skull.

I didn't hate Crystal Skull, btw.
But it did make me wonder what took them so long to end up with something so mediocre, so uninspired and so plain.

There were a few really bad moments in crystal skull though. Really bad. For me, a few bad moments in an otherwise mediocre film tilts it distinctly into the negative. I won't be getting excited about this TBH.2009-09-16 10:29:00

I love Crystal Skull. Watched it a few times. I think it's just as good as Last Crusade. What did you think were the "bad moments"? Remember how they jump out of a raft in Doom?2009-09-16 11:01:00

True, but thats nothing compared to surviving a Nuclear bomb by hiding in a fridge and flying into the sunset!!
Te CGI didn't help to make it believable as well...it wasn't even good CGI!!

Monkeys Need I say more? Probably not, but I will anyway: That weird bendy tree that gently drop them in the river - another example of really bad CGI.

The other films had rediculous bits, but they made sense at least. And they were overall better films, so the silly bits don't grate so

I love the old films, I've never watched the new one. I have no faith in George Lucas anymore after he destroyed Star Wars....2009-09-16 12:45:00

That my friends, is the sound of a broken heart.
I make those noises whenever I hear the term midi-chlorians as well.

(That said, I did love some parts of episode III....some parts)

Anyone watched Spaced? Think it's the beginning of the second series where Tim says something like "me and George Lucas had some things to work out" and then it just cuts to a big bonfire of star wars merch / memorabilia 2009-09-16 13:14:00

I think its time to bring up one of my all time favourite spoofs

YouTube - How George Lucas Might F@#% Up Indiana Jones 4

Its extremely hilarious if you've seen the 60 minutes interview with Lucas or any of the behind the scenes footage from Indy IV or Star Wars I-III

The sound of a happy childhood brought crashing down around me at a cinema several years ago

I don't mind parts of episode 3, but the others were TERRIBLE!!!

I'm with rtm on this one. Only I'll go a few steps further. I don't think Crystal Skull is a little bit tilted into the negative, I thought it was a flaming heap of evil, very much on par with the prequels. I think it was a cynical move, and I do think George Lucas had the most to do with screwing it (but it wasn't just him! Spielberg's no "victim" here) - but I also have a friend who read the entire original script by Darabont, and he said it was pretty awful too. I tend to trust his opinion on this, as our tastes generally overlap. He felt BETRAYED - he REALLY REALLY wanted Crystal Skull to be great. He was just ruined. I had zero faith in it going in. Spielberg himself even admitted openly that he wasn't even making this movie remotely for himself, that the only reason he was doing it was because fans demanded it be made. That's a warning light going off right there. His heart wasn't in it. He didn't even CARE. He made it ENTIRELY for the fans, and is it any surprise it turned out bad? It wasn't just Lucas's fault. Spielberg's right alongside him, with his champagne toats about how rich and famous they all are.

I LOVE Last Crusade. I LOVE Raiders. Doom I'm a little iffy on, but even that one holds up spectacularly next to the Crystal Skull with its super-ants, alien committee, greaser Shia swinging through the jungle with an army of monkeys, awful dialogue, and complete lack of the magic that made the originals so great. It wasn't for lack of trying though. That movie tried SO HARD to be a likable sequel. They just couldn't. I just don't think the guys have it in them anymore.

I'm not remotely surprised they're doing a 5th one. The 4th one, obviously, made huge money. That's the only prerequisite for getting sequels made these days. I only hope that once Harrison retires, they don't continue the series with Shia, as the ending to Crystal Skull so blatantly hinted at, and as Lucas himself has talked about doing.

The 4th one was stupid. Aliens? ! By the way, ever noticed how pretty much all the villains of Indiana Jones die gruesome deaths (faces melted off, getting eaten by crocodile, etc.)2009-09-17 00:34:00

I haven't even seen the 4th Indiana having been kinda disgusted that they dared make another sequel.

So yeah, not overly excited about #5...
