new to LBPC, was wanting info on building a lock
Archive: 15 posts
Hi, I just picked up LBP and I really really enjoy it. My first level that I'm actually trying to build, and not just fiddling around with has a problem. You see, it's rather unsavory, and I'm afraid people might report me. I have already built a lockbox where the player spawns and I'm in need of a lock that would require a password in order to open, granting access to the level. I would then share the password with friends whom I know won't have a problem with the potentially offensive parts of the level. I've been poking around these forums and I've heard tell of valve locks, keypad locks and such, but no solid information on how to build them, nor any pictures or videos. Whatever lock I go with, I'd like it to be secure, yet not tie up too much space in my thermometer. Thank you in advance, Jalabaster | 2009-09-16 04:03:00 Author: Jalabaster Posts: 3 |
Comphermc, RTM223, and V0rtex2002 all have good copyable key lock levels. You could easily adjust their systems to open a door instead of unlocking a key. I'm not sure how thermo friendly they are, but they are easy solutions. EDIT: And welcome to LBPC | 2009-09-16 04:13:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
This thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=16480) just popped up about a day or two ago, and it has some of the information your looking for, though Burnvictim42 did give you the basic run-down here. Also, SeniorGhost made a brilliant one that uses a keypad and sticker switches. | 2009-09-16 10:44:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
I'm kinda intrigued now.... how offensive? what is in it?? I GOTTA KNOW!! lol | 2009-09-16 14:31:00 Author: javi haguse Posts: 744 |
Most of the examples people will give you won't be on how to build them, but rather they will give you a copyable version of the level and basic instructions on how to tweak the combination. If you want a beginning to end guide on how to make a lock, tell me what kind you want, down to the exact detail, and I'll see if I can make up a guide on how to make it. (I have a lot of free time. ) | 2009-09-16 19:47:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
That's so nice of you. Design me a lock that is seemingly impenetrable, but easy to access for those with the right combo. ...or something with a rotating algorithm, so on a wrong entry, it resets to a new code, lol. I'm tired and may not be making any sense... | 2009-09-17 05:02:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
...or something with a rotating algorithm, so on a wrong entry, it resets to a new code, lol. I'm tired and may not be making any sense... That would be TOTALLY awesome. I want to design that now | 2009-09-17 05:17:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
ok, i totally second that, or third. that would be awesome. and if at all possible, show how to make it, my head hasn't hurt in a couple of days LOL | 2009-09-17 06:13:00 Author: thefrozenpenquin Posts: 479 |
Design me a lock that is seemingly impenetrable, but easy to access for those with the right combo. You've been to my lockbox right? It's booby trapped and everything . | 2009-09-17 09:40:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

I'm tired and may not be making any sense... I can do that. If you are serious about it, I'll make it. Let me just make sure I'm understanding this: You want the combination to change to the next in a set list after a wrong entry? | 2009-09-17 11:05:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Is there any need for a rotating alorithm lock though, I don't see what purpose it serves within LBP. Just have it lock down completely after wrong input... | 2009-09-17 11:15:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

rtm is right, but I was just wondering if someone would actually take the time to do it. I think it'd require some sort of visual cue as to which combo is "active" (maybe a set of 5 or 6 led lights), since a wrong input is not always obvious. It actually wouldn't be that hard to do, but it would be funny because for every wrong entry, it would light up a new light. The person would try to crack it by recognizing which buttons don't cause it to light up, but the combo would change each time, so it would be an exercise in futility. It would be more for fun than anything. ------ Sort of in the same vein as rtm's lockbox, where a certain wrong code will result in the players death, it's just for the humor of the creator. | 2009-09-17 13:17:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
I'm kinda intrigued now.... how offensive? what is in it?? Just the usual, penis rocket cars, penis roller coaster, penis trees and penis train. | 2009-09-19 18:28:00 Author: Jalabaster Posts: 3 |
P.S. Thanks guys, upon your suggestions I found and used a lock with rotating dials. I had to do quite a bit of tweaking to get it into my level, but it works. =] | 2009-09-19 18:29:00 Author: Jalabaster Posts: 3 |
