Epic Fail(ed to load level)

Archive: 11 posts

So, I have gotten the failed to load level once before, but nothing on the scale that I got today. I have been working a bit on a level whenever I have time, and it was finally starting to come together. I decided to show it BV42, so I had him pop in and test it, nothing too special. He gadded about, tested it to the best of his abilities, and left for his moon. I stayed in the level for a few more minutes, just running about, and decided to exit to my pod...

That's when it happened. The infinite loop of Failed to Load Level. My pod failed to load, as did my level, so it kept trying to go back and forth between the two, while putting up constant messages of the level having failed to load. I waited through 5 minutes of white screens (and the occasional red[?]) all while getting a failed to load message every few seconds. I was crushed.

All I wanted to do was exit to my pod and publish the level for safekeeping, but noooo... It just had to destroy the last couple of hours of work, as well as potentially all the work I had done prior (although I had a backup published). I really hope I don't have to start it over...

I had to just shut down the system and hope for the best. I can't bring myself to check if it survived...

Unlucky mate. Sounds like something fairly catastrophic happened there.

I'm terribly paranoid about this, and I know there wasn't much you can do, but after every hour or so of work, I will stop and take the time to back up my LBP save onto a flash drive. It does ruin any flow I might have had going, but it's a totally necessary precautionary measure. I also keep all major work as a captured object.2009-09-16 02:13:00

Well, in reality I had only been creating for about 90 minutes. I did some playing prior, so it seemed like longer. I was actually on my way to publish a locked version so I don't have to fiddle with a flash drive when I decided to show it to BV. I usually save and exit to my pod after every large update, but this was the one time I failed to do that. I hope my profile is ok...

The only thing we can really do at this point is hope for the best.2009-09-16 02:18:00

[doubly sad panda] Darn, what you had going was looking good D: I hope it wasn't my fault in some random LBP buggy way D:2009-09-16 02:22:00

Well, actually I'm blaming you entirely. I'm going to remove you from my friends list on LBPC, disregard any future posts you may make, and put you on my PSN block list!!

Naw. I can hopefully rebuild it. We have the technology...

(I stole that line from someone who used it recently on these forums)

I had the same thing a couple of days with a blank level I use for building and testing. It just kept saying failed to load and also the icon on it had changed to the yellow multipointed star thing with the black exclamation mark in it, whatever it's called.

I had a question mark icon on it originally which was a custom sticker I made and that had gone invisible in my popit also and was no longer selectable.

I had no choice but to delete both the level and the invisible sticker.

I'm sorry to hear that MrV. I sure hope I haven't had the same ill luck. I'm off to check it out right now [fingers crossed and all].2009-09-16 03:45:00

Good news!

I checked it out, and it somehow saved my level. I'm a bit apprehensive that it's going to corrupt again, but at least I should be able to copy everything into a blank level and start over.

The only thing that has appeared to happen is that my pod reset itself. May have been related to my pod getting the "failed to load level" error.

-----------

If a mod wouldn't mind locking this, that would be great.

Why, I wouldn't mind at all! Glad everything is A-Okay on your end.

Locked by request.
