Right click on the desktop > Arrange Icons by > Show Desktop Icons [uncheck]

It's quick and you can try it out for a spin without deleting all your icons (and it hides the recycle bin, which cannot be deleted).		2009-09-15 03:53:00

I use a Mac so it's a bit different

Ever looking for other themes, check this site: wincustomize (http://wincustomize.com/). Deviantart has also got some good stuff if you don't mind wading through mediocrity to get to it.

I used to scour the internet for themes and customizable stuff, but I eventually settled on what I've got now, and I've had it for over a year now.

Yeah, it comes in handy a lot of the time. And thanks for the site man I'm going to give a look through, I'm getting tired of the theme, doesn't fit my wallpaper very well either.

Oh, nice AIM skin as well, I'd look for something similar but I use Pidgin (kind of the same thing, I'm able to run AIM, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, etc...) on one program with Pidgin though.		2009-09-15 05:33:00

The bars you see are called docks, such as Rocket Dock. They can be downloaded for free and are a quick way to launch things. The clocks, etc. are a Vista(or Mac) feature called widgets. If you have Vista you can download them from Yahoo! Widgets.

Most people get them through a thing called Rainmeter (http://code.google.com/p/rainmeter/) which lets you customise your desktop with clocks, calenders, themes etc. 		2009-09-17 15:56:00

Dude, I LOVE that wallpaper. Had it for quite a long time. You find it at Interface-LIFT? If so, that same user has a bunch that I really like.

I'll post my wallpaper this evening. I've been sans icons for some time now and it's glorious.

EDIT: I love the aesthetics of things like RocketDock, but it's becoming apparent that it won't work too well in coordination with Windows 7 and the "superbar"...

Needed to resurrect this nigh dead thread to ask a question to the masses. Hopefully, someone will be able to point me in the right direction. Might as well throw out an updated wallpaper while I'm at it, huh?

So, my question is for anyone that uses or is familiar with Rainmeter and similar applications. I'm fine with the current background given the season, but there are other wallpapers I've had to pass over due the fact they're a little too busy and make the skins difficult to read as a result. So, does anyone know of a separate application (or another skin for that matter) that acts as something of a background? To be clear, I want it to sit on top of the wallpaper and under the Rainmeter skins so as to act as a "frame". Make sense?

I tried to make Firefox' UI as small as possible, to have a bigger view of the sites'n stuff you're viewing. With help of a compact theme and some add-ons, I totally pimped this thing... in a not so wild way, if you catch my drift >.>

Also.... it's a Vista theme on an xp operating system!! yeah, I like vista's style :3

Whoa. that's creepy. not only are you one of the only other mac-desktops I've seen, but I as well have exclusively hubble wallpapers. Right now there's literally a picture of colliding galaxies on my desktop, and I see it anytime I go between applications while working, which can be absurd sometimes and overwhelming at others. So maybe I should replace it with baby bunnies or something. But I can't bring myself to do it.

My wallpaper is virtually non existent, as when I am using a GUI... I use a tiling window manager. In other words, any windows I have fill up the entire screen.

My wallpaper is virtually non existent, as when I am using a GUI... I use a tiling window manager. In other words, any windows I have fill up the entire screen.
