Gets a high activty and number of posts?

Archive: 48 posts

Ok ive been on this site for almost a year and i try to pop in atleast once a day maybe make a few posts then I dont really have much else to do.

As i venture through the site now i see that members have gotten ultimate bundles or high ranks like sackperson in a matter of weeks 0.o

Do i have to live my life on this site to get such obnoxious acitvity levels and get an ultimate bundle sometime soon?

So to sum up my thoughts...anyone know i can effectivly rank up and get a bundle (preferably an ultimate), without spending hours on this site daily?

To me it just seems like some people live their lives here

To answer your question, I probably spend about an hour+ on here. Not all at once, mind you, but I stop by several times a day. I'm sure it's the same for many of the "high activity" regulars.2009-09-14 23:22:00

I mostly browse around the forums for an hour during the night before i go to bed.

But i sometimes do feel like I'm living on this forum >.<

I actually browse these forums a lot. but like comphermc, its just a little at a time. I'll stop by before i do homework, then maybe in the middle and after.

Advice for getting points would be thus:

1) welcome the newbies- its a nice gesture, its not hard to do, and it gets you points (though i think the first one should be the most compelling )

2) Enter community contets- I've won a LOT of points via community contests lol. Almost enough for an ultimate bundle, not quite though. I actually just recently gave away a bundle in a contest. Comphermc has a great elevator one going on now.

I'm actually on 24/7. I've resorted to being on a constant IV drip that supplies me with nutrition and caffeine, so that I never need to leave to eat or sleep. I constantly check for updated threads, and I post whenever I feel I have any sort of input whatsoever.

Just kidding, basically what comphermc said. Though I do wonder how some members get Ultimate Bundles so quickly. I've seen people with only a couple hundred posts, low reputation, and other things that would constitute an average member, yet they have an Ultimate Bundle. Some win them in giveaways and contests, but others I'm not so sure about.

Actually, points are disabled in the introduction forum- having points there made people want to welcome newbies just for exp, so it was disabled so that everyone who welcomes newbies actually does it out of legitamentally welcoming them. so yeah, no points there.

And then making topics with a lot of replies gets points- that's how CC got half his points, just making topics that, since he always makes site updates threads, give him a lot of points because of all the replies.

Anyway... there's no real way to say how to get points... You could spam, but... well, don't.

I don't think so, the majority of them actually aren't aware that they don't receive points for it. I've told four or five members this and they were all surprised.

You don't get points for just being "on". You have to post, use the reputation system correctly, get reputation, make active threads, etc. Basically just being a good and helpful member will give it to you.

Isn't it nicer to has a copy and pasted welcome than no welcome at all?

Well, no. I always try to say something different, I may not get around to everyone who ever joins but I think it's better than saying the exact same thing every single time.

Nope. Even if you don't know it's copied and pasted, it's still gonna be a generic comment, that reads like there is no thought put into it, just a knee-jerk reaction.

Of course, most people aren't as cynical as me

OK so when I usually post "Hi there and welcome the forums"

That is actually a bad thing? I don't copy and paste it but its the same comment. If its good enough for one person why isn't it good enoughfor the next? Im just saying hello not trying to go out on a date with them

EDIT: Oh and if you check my exp you'll see I have no need for it

I don't care about your exp...or anyone's really. It just seems rude when people say the same thing like twenty times in a row...I doubt a lot of them don't even read the first post.

Well, i know I at least read the first post, and the others following. Theres just not always that much to say, particularly if those above you have said it, and a intro is like "i'm here, i love LBP. yeah."

"Welcome to the forums", thats all i'm really trying to say, anyway

That's near enough my view on things like this. I dislike people saying "thank you" a lot of the time because often it's just something you do, you can see there is no thought in it. It's just a conditioned response, something they are supposed to do, so they do it...

I'm not saying it's a big deal, by any stretch of the imagination, but I wanted that date Wex, and maybe access to your luck charms, but you broke my heart!!

lol, jk.

I actually think that a c/p is better than nothing. You don't really know anything about that new person, so either way is going to be a bit generic. It's just an introduction...

How you don't need to spend every waking moment here to get exp. and the subtopic of you don't get exp for posting in the welcome threads.

and currently a hotbed of differing opinions on the good manners/bad manners of c/p greetings.

But I think you were asking rhetorically.

Your getting a lot.

Everytime you post a thread, the more active (more posts in the thread) the more XP you will get for the thread.

I believe that getting negative rep does take away XP, though I'm not sure how much. That red bar you've been carrying around with you might be indicative of your lower-than-average XP.

I used to welcome every member (yes every single one ) but it was getting too hard too keep up and was taking up most of my time on here, so I virtually stopped altogether.
I still pop in there now and then if a intro thread title catches my eye. But it's a pain sometimes as I have this thing that I can't post in a thread until I've read every post first (freak ).

I always start my intro with:

Welcome to the forums - Were taking over the world don't you know

But I ALWAYS find time to find something to say to the new member other than just that

ANYWAY back on the main topic......

XP is a weird thing and sometimes I seem to get loads and sometimes it takes ages to go up.
But nowadays I don't get that much time to get on here so I've gone right down on the XP front

But keep in mind that if you use the whole site then your XP will go up much quicker. So try to remember to thank people for useful posts and a couple of things people usually forget to do are enter tags to a thread, rate the thread.
Everything adds up in the end

You have basically the same attitude towards the Introduction section that I do. I have something that I say every time (Welcome to the forums here at LBPC and enjoy your stay!), but I don't think I've made a single post in there that is generic. I'll always try to add something useful and meaningful to my post, which is a good rule of thumb in general.

The crowns are just the visual representation of your rep stats. The higher the rep the more crowns show up. CC has a thread around here somewhere explaining it.2009-09-16 20:35:00

Now question, how do you get those little crowns??

They are your rep. You can give someone good or bad rep for a post by clicking on the scales in the postbit.
You can look at how much rep people have by going to the experience page or individually by clicking on their names in the postbit.
I think you get one for every 100 points or something like that

Just a comment about introduction forum messages. I admit i frequently use the same "Hi and welcome to these forums " in this section.
But i read every word of the thread before to post, and you didn't consider here that some people (as i am) are not english (i mean english is not their maternal language). And it is sometimes a big effort for some of us to write what we think. So, my idea is to be nice with newcomers and to post a generic welcome, but i can't take one hour to do such a thing...
And basically, when i came here the first time and opended a thread, i was happy to see that people was nice enough to welcome me. Generic post or not

And concerning the fact that exp system is off in this forum, it is written in the description of the sections in the index of the forum, and explained in the stickied thread about forum rules.

It's true that you don't get points for posts in the Introductions Thread but I have noticed that (unlike posts in Forum Games) they do appear to count towards the total number of posts you have. This means that anyone trying to climb the ranks from Lint to Thread to Fuzzball etc can boost their post score by posting in the Intros Thread and rise more quickly. I am not saying that is a bad thing because it is important that there should be enough people prepared to make the effort to greet new members. Of course, lots of peopole do it simply out of the kindness of their hearts but there is a small bonus on the side for those at the bottom of the pecking order. I just thought I would mention it to clarify the position.
