Paint switch resetting

Archive: 11 posts

I'm missing something really obvious here but I just can't think of the way you can make a paint switch need to be fired at constantly to get a platform to move. I'm sure its doable, I remember making things ages ago where the paint switch reset and had to be shot again. I just can't remember how.2009-09-14 21:11:00

Set it to one shot.
It will reset after you activate it.

Ahh didn't wire it up to test it. More sleep definitely needed. Thank you.2009-09-14 21:24:00

Fired at constantly? That would take something a little more. A real rudimentary way to do it is to set the switch to one shot and have it emit a key on a block somewhere behind the scenes. When the block is there, the output is triggered via a mag key switch. Set the lifetime of the key to be short, so that if you don't keep shooting they will all dissolve away, and the platform will stop moving (or go back to the start if you're using directional outputs).2009-09-14 23:11:00

Yeah but why go to all that trouble? Make the paint switch One-Shot and the number of hits = 1 and the output directional. With steady fire, the platform (piston) will continue to move forward, but as soon as you stop shooting, it will begin to retract.

Right?

Make the paint switch One-Shot ... and the output directional

I think one-shot is a type of output on the paintswitch. Or is it?

He's talking about the number of paints needed to activate the piston.

I don't think he is:

Make the paint switch One-Shot and the number of hits = 1 and the output directional.

And if he was, directional and #hits=1 will not reset. You will just get a permanent output after one hit.

Right?
comphermc's solution is correct. Paint switches work like most switches, they have a list of several different types of outputs. The only one that refills when done is One-Shot. If you wanted to have to keep shooting at something to make it go out, you would need to use comphermc's solution, you just have to decide what type of output the switch triggered by the emitter will be.

You know, this gives me a good idea for a little platforming challenge. Thanks, friends.2009-09-15 12:27:00
