LittleBigPlanet "Confessional"

Archive: 61 posts

Let's face it, LittleBigPlanet is an addicting game! I know there have been times when you were creating a level when you should have been doing something else... like... um... your job, or a school project, etc. So let's hear it! What have you ignored simply because you couldn't stop thinking about your next level ideas?

Since I brought it up, I better start. Last week I was supposed to do something very important for work (let's just say it was an important Sunday morning thing!) and I kept putting it off because I was constantly thinking about what to do next in the level I'm working on. I ended up having to work on a Saturday, well into the evening because of my procrastination. Thankfully everything went great and all is well with my job, and my level

Alright - your turn! Fess up! I know you have similar stories... I hope

Truth be told I think up a general theme of what I want to create and jump into it. When I do I create for a day or two or three straight and create lots and lots of content which ends up at about 60% of my level. The rest I do over time. I have a passion for creating what I want. I'll fire up something like the castlevania soundtracks while creating just to get into the mood. When I invest so many hours into creating levels I don't just want it to be work. I want it to be very playful. So I use the background while creating and generally just try to have fun while creating. SERIOUSCAT IS NOT HAPPY!2009-09-14 20:25:00

hmm, I know what you mean, but I think you misunderstood my thread? I want to know about those times when you had other obligations in your life (other than LBP) that you put off until the last minute because you simply just couldn't turn LBP off because the game is that addicting.

Maybe there were times during those two or three days straight you were creating, but you really should have been doing something else (like homework, or a family thing, or hanging out with friends, or your job...etc)?

On the level I'm working on now I turn on the PS3 at 9 am and keep working with it and my TV on until 2 am.

I almost missed one of my best friends weddings because of something important I was asked to do in the beta.

The story has a happy ending though. I got to the wedding with like a minute to spare and got to see them get married.

To be fair, it was my GOTY level.

I don't sleep much anymore. Time difference between here and Europe keeps me online with friends until 3-4am. This past Sunday I was awake until 6:30am which would be fine if I was younger and didn't have a job. I'm 35 and totally threw my system into crazy mode so now my sleep is all screwed up again.

I also tend to post/surf LBPC from work. (like today in fact) Including days that I'm really busy. So far I haven't missed anything important but my sales reps have noticed it takes a little longer for them to get their ads from me.

A sunday, I told the person I was dating that my parents didn't allow me to go.
I was lying, I just didn't feel like going out again with that person; I prefered some of LBP.

We broke up next week, cause that helped me to realize that I wasn't in love at all, since I prefered a videogame.

It might sound selfish, but it was the right thing to do, I believe.

sure, why not. ^_^

I know that right now I should be cooking dinner, but instead I'm posting on LBPCentral. Although, that's not as bad at the wedding thing.

Ooh yeah... I've been there. I find myself often ignoring the phone when I'm creating, with the only exception being if it's my girlfriend.

I've put off work. I've put off friends. The worst for me? I've put off EATING. I'll be sitting there, hunger pains in my guts, stomach growling angrily, and I'll just plow forward. "No! Shut up, stomach! SHUT IT! Gotta fix... traffic lights..."

"A man was found dead in his apartment on Tuesday. An autopsy shows he starved to death over weeks. He was found with a videogame controller in his hand. The television screen revealed a cursor hovering over a "publish" button. It appears he was close to completing whatever it was he was doing. Close... but not finished."

Oh well, I go to sleep later than I should and more often than not but I need that hour or two of gaming before I go to bed. Seriously.

I might be more addicted to gaming than LBP in particular. But it really is my passion and best hobby, I'm not feeling good If i'm not doing it.

I was going to answer some, but they're all hilarious... and yet so true, so true In fact, right now I should be doing the dishes in the sink ... we have used all our silverware and dishes but I think, 'ehh, I need to check LBPC, then go back to creating my level.' lol

Also, Jagrevi, it's ok to answer in hypotheticals (that should be interesting).

@ Morgana25 - I resonate with your situation more than you know

Ha ha ha, I thought that was just me. I'll sit until I'm literally ready to eat the controller before I move.

I got out of bed at 12:30AM on Monday because I could'nt sleep for thinking how to fix a section of my level I was having trouble with, so I got up and sorted it.

I always don't turn up at the pub, ignore my phone when I'm on LBP. I once did'nt walk the dog, even though the poor thing was desperate, and, well, it couldnt wait any longer. I spent more time cleaning up and getting rid of the smell than I would have done walking to the field a 2 minute walk away.

And saying that, I'm supposed to be doing housework, but I've been finishing my level and posting on here, so you can guess how thats going

Ironically Dan and I get less time on LBP than we used to because of sackcast

So really for me it's only been a missed a trip up north to my Gran's because we had an episode to record (the first live one I belive, maybe the second).

As well as that I don't get on the ps3 much because the TV is always in use

It all gets done (like a day or two late) but its still not healthy habit im not hardcore with getting up early and going to bed just hours before sunrise but im inching towards it XD2009-09-15 16:27:00

I first got started on LBP nine months ago. I met some people at a club and was invited to a party. A couple invited me to go home with them if I wanted to try their levels. I was drunk and agreed. At their apartment we went into the bedroom where he took a LBP disc out of a drawer and loaded it. Showed me how it was played. I think any LBP addict out there knows what happened next. I couldn't believe the rush, like a thousand joypad vibrations at once. After that night we had many more LBP parties where I hooked up with other people and I was invited to join online sessions.

As time went by I started blowing thousands of pounds and spending increasingly less time at home with my family. Eventually I began to steal money from my wife to pay for downloadable content, but then she got wise to me and threw me out of the home. She said she didn't know who I was anymore and it was hurting her and the kids to see me like that. I moved into a static trailer and started to abuse LBP worse than ever, having few responsibilities and nobody around to rein me in. My manager at the store began to notice I was always turning up late for work because I was staying up all night without sleep. He gave me a few chances, but I couldn't quit LBP and eventually he had to let me go. He said my dishevelled appearance and irritable manner were putting off his customers. I robbed his till of ?20 before I left and bought myself the MGS pack, which kept me on a constant high for five days before I finally collapsed unconcious.

I don't have any memory of what came after, but I remember the doctors telling me I had been in a coma for three days and that my joypad had to be surgically removed from my hand. They said unless I quit playing LBP, I would most likely be dead before my 35th birthday. But I can't do it...I just can't quit. Without it my life seems dull and depressing, and nothing else gives me the same buzz. It does scare me though. I suffer constant weight loss, nausea and migraines each day, and I'm aware that I may have very little time left to complete my current level in progress.

Anyway, I'm gonna leave this thread now because I'm starting to get a tremor in my fingers which is a sure sign of withdrawal. A man's gotta get his fix, y'know?

Well, a few things:

I am in class right now, not paying attention.

I sometimes skip lunch because I'm busy creating. I just ignore the hunger, much like Teebonesy. Also, sometimes I wait until my urge to use the bathroom reaches CODE ALERT RED! before getting my butt off the couch...

On vacation last month, I spent many hours sketching out a level design rather than enjoying the sights and weather.

The worst is when I wake up early in the morning (like 7:00 AM) on a Saturday, tell my girlfriend that I need to go home [because I have the urge to play lbp], and she completely understands what I'm going home for... She's come to accept it.

I always start my day off with LBPC I checked it when I woke up .. then played LBP for 30 minutes. Went to work, checked LBPC again. I checked it twice throughout the day (only because I had a student doing his career shadow day with me today, otherwise it would've been more), and now I'm about to leave .. but I just had to check it again. In fact... I'm already in the "what am I going to create next in my level" mode. Thankfully my wife went back to school, so study time for her is LBP time for me

There are some great posts in this thread! Keep it up!!

It's great to hear there are other over 30's on here who are as addicted as I am to LBP. I've lost count of the number of times I've phoned in sick just because I had a great idea and had to tinker! I've also repeatedly put off the dog walking, washing up (cleaning the dishes, for our American friends), housework and, dare I say it, even bedroom pursuits, if you know what I mean.

LBP is just too **** important!

Almost everyday in my math class I'll "pay attention", and then when I go to "take notes" I'll actually be planning out a new device or improving an old one.

I've already driven a couple of my friends crazy because I'll just go on LBP rants. One of them hates it whenever me and another friend I sometimes create with start talking about it, as she gets lost fast (she doesn't have a ps3 and has only seen the cover of the game) in amongst the talk of pistons and logic gates and various other tid-bits.

I have pretty much taken over the ps3. It isn't even my console or my game. Both actually belong to my brothers gf, who practically lives with us. She sometimes complains that she never gets to play, though whenever I've created something new she is always really interested in what I've done (both of us are total geeks).

Fun thread, but things become serious when your level is "nearly" finished for weeks... and you can't leave it like this!!

My girlfriend (now my wife ) nearly leaves me when I was "about-to-finish" The Bunker. I was missing all day, and I forgot about eating, sleeping, visit friends... I had to promise my wife that was my last level ever
To be able to create my following level, I had to "learn" to create at night... That nearly cost me my job. Nobody wants a zombie in the office

i have shrugged off a good bit of homework with LBP.

but i soo totally know the "almost" finished feeling is.

you test it once its done, to fix a few bugs, but then you gotta change something you just noticed, then its final for real, then you got more problems that you just gotta solve! and then the next thing you know, its 3 AM

A man's gotta get his fix, y'know?

glad thats not real.

I think I was most obsessed with this before it came out.

I just wouldn't shut up about how amazing this game would be, and I kept going insane wondering what I'm gonna do to pass time until release.

Anyone remember the whole fiasco with the song that referenced the Quran? I went insane. ANOTHER 2 WEEKS WITHOUT LBP!? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I was the same way. I got REALLY angry. Then I went searching for places to buy lbp and get around the delayed release date. Newegg didn't participate in the recall, so I ordered it with one day shipping and had it on October 21st, the day it was supposed to come out.

I thought about it, but I already reserved my copy in Best Buy for the Nariko bonus costume so it wouldn't have made sense.2009-09-19 14:09:00

I lucked out. I had preordered it online from Best Buy... so they had sent me nariko in the mail about a month beforehand. When I found out about the newegg thing, I cancelled my preorder, but still had the nariko code. Then a friend just gave me an extra kratos code that they had.

So somehow (and I have the worst luck in the world) I got kratos, nariko, and the game on October 21st. :O

Yeah, I was lucky to get mine from a local video game store either on the 20th or the 21st, I can't remember? I know they had it a day before anyone else because they didn't wait for shipping - they literally drove up to the distribution center. But, back on topic...

To be able to create my following level, I had to "learn" to create at night... That nearly cost me my job. Nobody wants a zombie in the office

Yeah I resonate with that. Creating at night hasn't worked so far, but, I've learned to utilize the time when my wife is busy or isn't at home. Luckily for me, she chose to go back to college for another degree, so lately she's been busy with her homework, and I've been busy with my LBP

(LBP) wont help me in my career or in life.

See that's interesting, because I tend to think the opposite. I think create mode provides an opportunity for problem solving. Problem solving is definitely something that is used in every career, and in life. I love the challenge of figuring out how to create something, and then make it work with insane logic combos. Sometimes I can't figure it out, but I ask people on this website who gladly help - and I've learned a lot because they take the time to explain how their logic works. So, that would be an example of "networking", which in the real world is a must in just about every occupation. Another example of networking is gathering a team of level testers that try to find any and all bugs in your level before you publish it. Lots of jobs in the real world are best done in teams rather than individually.

So there are at least a few elements in LBP that we do use in our every day lives. However, if a person does not really involve themselves in the create mode, I can see where your statement would ring true.

Thanks for your post though - it made me think
