Water BETA to oficially begin on the 17th [PROVISIONAL]

The initial phase of the beta with the existing testers has been underway for a short time, and we're about to introduce the first new wave of testers into the group.

We will be adding 1000 more people into the test this week, all of whom will have signed up last month. Currently we expect the email to be sent out on Thursday September 17th, [U]however this date is provisional (if there's any change we'll try to update as soon as we know).

This is not the final stage of testing, and more people will be added over the coming weeks, so if you are not invited this time around don't give up hope just yet.

What else do they have up their sleeve???

Basically the phases are when bugs get fixed and such.

So the bugs found in this phase will get fixed and then in a few weeks a new patch will be downloaded with those fixes and then we are to test that new client with the fixes. Which is the next phase.		2009-09-14 16:01:00

Yes, but you have to figure that some people probably applied under more than one account. It's not really all that fair, but it's how it goes.

Yeah, the sign up page was up for a while before Mm actually posted about it.

Mm said themselves this beta is a random drawing.

I think we are seriously underestimating numbers here, possibly in the blind hope that because we believe the number of entrants are low, that they actually are. The 9,000 figure was within the first few hours of opening up the page. Over the course of the week, that figure could, and most likely have doubled. Not to continually be the so-called "Debby Downer" pessimist here, but they did say it was provisional, and when I see things like that, I try not to get my hopes up too much. That way, I'm not as let down if it doesn't come, and I'm more surprised when it does. 		2009-09-15 02:48:00

As for probabilities... I'm hoping for the lottery this Saturday, but I'll takek the water beta in it's stead if I don't win that. 3 days... Actually from what I remember the download was about 222mb, plus whatever the patches were to download after.

Although the original beta client has been pulled from the store so the new download of the client may already have to patches applied to is and hence make it a larger download.

As has been pointed out, 9000 is only the number of people that signed up in the first few hours. 5-10% is our chances, assuming 10-20,000 players signed up, which is a little more reasonable given the odds that many people wouldn't have gotten the news until much later. If we're being a little more realistic about the numbers though, I don't think 30,000-50,000 is terribly unlikely. It just doesn't sound as good...

I'm sure they have safeguards against that. Multiple usernames and emails are one thing to check, but I'm hoping they had some IP checker in place as well, there is no need for people to artificially inflate their chances. 		2009-09-16 20:11:00

I'm doubting that I will get in as I messed up and applied at first with my email that I use all the time. Then I remembered that it wasn't the one I used for my PS3 and reapplied with my PS3 email. THEN (lol) I realised I had completely forgotten my password to that email, as I only set it up for my PS3 and it became deactivated and for some reason I couldn't recover my password or reactivate it
SO.....I set up a completely new email and changed my PS3 settings to this and accepted to receive emails from Sony. Then went to MM's site and reapplied for the 3rd time correctly lol.

So I've either completely screwed up my chances as they will think I was just spamming, or I have a better chance as I applied 3 times lol		2009-09-16 20:54:00

LOL I posted on my twitter and facebook accounts yesterday that I wanted to get "WET with LBP" and we then got torrential rain and I had to work from 8am till 11pm and was absolutely soaked through all day lol

Twice too ! When I first applied I realised shortly afterwards I'd applied with my banned account ( which has now been reinstated ) so I went back and applied with my new account.

I got Water Beta welcomes on both a short while ago.

One thing confusing me though is it says I must have the 'preview' version of LBP. Does this mean the recent demo that is on the store now ? If so i'm going to be ages before I can try it out because I just started downloading that demo and it has another 3 hours to go !!

A couple of things:


Congrats to those who got in, and have fun! Don't forget to report bugs! Also, if you'd like to be added to LBPCentral's list of testers, send me a PM with a screencap of the invite email you received from Sony (feel free to remove the beta code itself if you like). You'll get access to a private forum on LBPCentral and PM updates, if any.
To those who didn't make it in: it's alright! The first wave of invites hasn't even been fully sent, and there will be more "waves" of invites later on down the road as well, so you have a fairly good chance of getting invited. If for some reason you don't, though, please don't use this forum to complain - I'm sure there's disappointment, but being down and negative doesn't fix anything and it will eventually cause arguments. While I agree that it seems "fishy" that good creators got in (though not unlikely or unheard of), and is certainly ridiculous that ANYONE would get two codes for the same IP, you can't beat up on those who have proudly put in their sigs that they got in. They're just excited about getting in.

I haven't seen any sigs your referring to, but unless they are putting in something to the effect of "I got into the water beta and you didn't - so eat it!"... it's really not bragging.

whew, i woulda lost it there. I was quite happy when i got a crown, cause it made it official that I had all costumes, and since I am not in Europe, and we can't get the 1-Week shirt I was fine with that.

But whenn i heard that, where you get a costume item based on pure luck.....that is madness:eek:

Actually, there's a lot of misinformation regarding the costume item, and since it's already been leaked, I'll just spell it out:

Everyone who makes it into the beta receives an exclusive Beta Test Vest for their Sackboy, regardless of whether they actually contributed. Everyone who contributes valuable bug reports or is otherwise helpful and productive will also receive a special costume, which is (in my opinion) much cooler than the Beta Test Vest.

However, before you go all crazy because you won't be able to have everything, just remember that the vest is a "thank you" from Mm and Sony to the beta participants. Sometimes you don't get what you want, and that's just the way it is. Please, just deal with it. I've had this conversation at least five different times now, and I'm not really interested in putting up with another person who thinks they have a right to be angry if they can't get their hands on every single piece of DLC.		2009-09-17 19:54:00

Well ofcourse. But personally, I only buy the ones I likes. If people are buying them just to have everything that's all fine too. But if everyone just bought what they like, everything would still sell well as everyone is different Still, to each their own. Maybe the water beta invites haven't been sent out due to the Playstation Store's updating. After all, to get the download, the code you need to get it has to be added to the PS store.

I wouldn't go that far. I mean we will most likely be getting codes hours or days at maximum after Europe in this case. Sometimes it can take content weeks or even months to make it over there. 		2009-09-17 23:24:00

whew, i woulda lost it there. I was quite happy when i got a crown, cause it made it official that I had all costumes, and since I am not in Europe, and we can't get the 1-Week shirt I was fine with that.

But whenn i heard that, where you get a costume item based on pure luck.....that is madness

Oh well looks like i didn't get it (unless they are still releasing codes for the rest of the day then there might be hope)

Sorry for the delay in replying folks. I contacted the North American team directly after my last post in this thread and have yet to receive a reply, however like you I find it odd that out of the 400 people from North America due to join the test not one was from this forum.

Sam is looking into the situation as he and a lot of member are finding it odd that none of the people boasting about getting in the beta are from the U.S. (on the Workshop forums that is), not sure about that situation here.		2009-09-20 15:01:00

I wasn't saying that it wasn't a fair distribution, it was merely a comment on how small that number seems. You can extend that to say, "Wow! 1000 for the whole world is such a small number." Especially considering that some people are just in it for themselves and not for testing's sake.
