Simple Roller Coaster Design

Archive: 25 posts

This idea will work great, considering I've heard a few people saying they wanted to make coasters.

The purple is in the middle layer, and it consists of the body and "seats" (the circles). These "seats" are actually circles of sponge that Sackboy can grab onto so he doesn't fall off. The front seat can have a grab switch on it, so when it's grabbed, the ride will start. The roller coaster will move by using the rocket attached to the back of it.

The green is in the background- it's the rail. The red circles are rods that are two layers thick, and exist in the back and middle planes. These rods will keep the roller coaster on the rail without falling off, because in LittleBigPlanet, things don't move forward and backward (except for Sackpeople, of course).

I like it... you may need to make it with interconnected pieces so that you can do sharp curves. I wouldn't have though of adding wheels above the rail as well as below . Are you going to do loops?2008-09-17 00:21:00

EDIT: Oh, I know how!

Make a sensor on the loop-- when the car goes over it, this part of the loop will dissolve, allowing the coaster to pass through.

That is so much more clever and cool than what I was going to suggest. Nice job .2008-09-17 00:49:00

yea like in line rider... you have to leave a gap in the loop in order for it to work...

good idea...

You could also make an 'S' of sorts with the track going upside down. Or even better yet, twisties, like a twisted doughnut but I don't know how that would work. What about if the track was broken and the coaster fell down for a bit and then caught onto another piece of track and kept going..2008-09-17 05:17:00

OH MY GOD YOU STOLE MY IDEA...

No, not really. d: Yeah, a lot of people wanna do coasters and I'm making a few, one which will be "THE DEFELTERIZER"!! (get it? ) And I know EXACTLY how I'm gonna do loops without any problems. However, I'll keep it to myself because 1, I'm sure THIS is an original idea of mine and 2, I wanna see what clever things people do to make it happen (as in, how they'll apply loops to the coaster).

Good idea, man I need to think about levels too, I'm going to make a level of pure comedy, at one part of the level it will be pure epic and hard to pass, and as soon as you pass that you come up to a car, you get in and go through a drive thru. Iono, that just came to my head like 10 seconds ago? Lol.2008-09-18 06:25:00

I think you need to make the wheels pivit on the main carriage. This will allow it to travel over sharp hills like in your diagram.2008-09-18 13:56:00

Nice idea, I'm not sure how well it would work but somehow you could make like 2 or 4 miniture carts and make races/fights.

Also you could make the course in such a way that if you accelerate at certain points then you make jumps, if you don't you go to another area so it's like 2 levels in one?

I'm not sure whether this would work but, keep up the designing!

Will.

I guess this thread is as good a place as any to post this:

I know many of you have talked about creating loops for skateboards, rollercoasters or anything else. I just thought to tell you guys that it's very easy to make one. All you need to do is put a trigger on top of the loop that modifies the intersection to allow the object to proceed.

Here's a quick mock-up of how a loop could work:

This is exactly how i explained how to do this a couple of months back in another thread. GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE LOL

Nice idea, this could be expanded into some really great levels and could totally work.

Curse you Tyler! I was going to make a similar RollerCoaster!
Bah lol, I actually don't have that many ideas for it though, and you seem to have some. So, here's hoping it all works out, as I'm interested in what you're going to do.

Haha, I thought of this up too. Great minds think alike!

This really cleared things up for me, I was thinking to my self how is it hard to make a loop? But then, this showed me that the peice blocking has to disappear for the ride to keep going. Thanks for this!

HEY I KNOW HOW TO EXECUTE LOOPS AS WELL

You make the track 3 layers and have your Sackboy sit in the middle layer of the "cart". Halfway through a loop, you'd make the first layer fall off, allowing the rest of the cart to proceed behind the first layer. Get it?

Wahey, that's very good news - a very simple design technique! Some of my designs can come into fruitation now...
