Do you ever feel like you have a perfect soundtrack that you just go to put in your next boss battle?Need that video walkthrough put up to help people?Well I do.

My point is that people should be allowed to at least record their voices on LBP.Seriously, this will be awesome.Who agrees with me?

I do not.

That sounds like a huge mess just waiting to happen, honestly. Free unrestricted audio sharing?

It wouldn't work...LBP levels download to your playstation system (probably temp memory). Think how long it takes to download a song...up to 5 minutes really, and a video could easily be 20 minutes. Would you wait that long for an LBP level to load? I wouldn't.2009-09-12 01:09:00

Copyright issues.

Copyright issues.

Copyright issues.

And letting you record your voice would be an awful idea. Think of all the abuse that could be done with that.

Not with the same degree of problem, I don't think. I've heard alot of issues brought up about illegal music sharing on the internet, for example. Not so as much about "illegal still-image sharing".

Ya,but like I said,at least let us record our voice.

How would you suggest the game recognize the difference between your voice and any other source of sound?

That's one of the issues - the level of moderation would be so impractical that it would be very "uncool", if you ask me. There's no way they could check every-level that goes up given the size of corporation they are. I wouldn't be surprised to see litigation occur if they attempted this and we ended up using it for music sharing. Trouble for MM. Court rulings about the nature of LBP sharing that would inevitably come would likely have to be so broad and generic that the very foundation of the game might no longer be legally viable.

We already recreate music in game and have the ability to add custom music to our levels. As it stands, the music industry honestly wouldn't care if it even popped up on their radar. If we moved farther in that direction though to actual recorded sound and it did though ... the resulting rulings could have far reaching implications. At least assuming this is any kind of half-way decent sound recording ability we're talking about.

Plus, honestly, the sound quality would most likely be horrible, one audio recording would wreck havoc with your thermometer in practical terms, it would be jarring to have "real audio" with all it's imperfections suddenly appear in the level, it would take forever to load up the level ...

It seems very uncool to me. That's just my off the top of my head opinion though.

But this isnt a thread where people go crazy and become lawyers.

Bringing up the point that the idea doesn't seem doable is "going crazy and becoming a lawyer"?

No offense.

None taken.

I don't usually take "you've gone crazy and become a lawyer" as an insult ... although, to be fair, I don't think I've ever been accused of having "gone crazy and become a lawyer" before.

It's just kind of strange and entertaining, actually - but don't worry, you've most certainly not offended anyone or breached any social constructs in this thread.

Well the main reason I said "crazy" and that lawyer stuff is because you posted a novel's worth of an explanatin. But thanks for not taking it the wrong way.2009-09-12 06:30:00

How about this: Media Molecule could allow three 10 second audio clips per level. Here's how it would work:

In create mode, you would go to your Tools menu and go to the audio section. You would see three objects that looked the same except for their color. Next to each of those three objects would be a record button which allows you to determine what each of those colored objects will sound like in the level you are editing and ONLY THAT LEVEL. Therefore objects with those recorded sound devices would sound differently depending on the level in which they are placed and the recorded sounds that the creator recorded in that particular level.

The recorded sounds themselves would NOT be redistributable, so there is no way that any glitch could allow for more than three clips. They could, however, be uploaded into the servers just like stickers can now. And since they would be only ten seconds, there goes the copyright issue and the download time issue.

What do you think?

I've always thought that a separate thermometer solely for adding in audio clips with a maximum length of 5 seconds would be a great idea. People could make sound effects far beyond what is offered to them, and a five second time limit is a fairly solid way to prevent copyright issues. The Good Grief! system is still in place, and that will work fine for people who "abuse" the system. I see it being implemented as another speaker in the audio section, but it would be red to look like a record icon. For tweak menu options, there would be things like the normal modifier, whether or not to loop, record, and save options.2009-09-13 19:15:00

I agree that it could work with a time limit, and a max amount of recorders used for each level.
I would love that!

Copyright issues with audio is a lot more strict since this whole music download thing started.

Image copyrights are usually quite laid back but even those are causing complications for Mm.

Just look at youtube, all these people getting sued because of copy right issues.

As for the video-walk-through thing, I've seen people comment on their level description giving them a link to their video-walk-through on the internet.
If the players know it exists they will watch it.

But I somtimes do want to put in my own music inside a level.... but I really really resist the urge.
