Awesome Project; I need your help!

First, watch this video YouTube - Scrubs - Space Invaders Done? Good. I'm going to make this at school. It's ambitious, but I think I could make it work. My school has a thing called "Cot Fund" (named after its original charitable purpose of supplying cots to babies in the third world) which elects charities each year and students try to raise money for it, and this is an excuse to get the teachers to allow it...and get involved. So far I have the following outline: It will take place during Thursday lunchtime, which is 1hr and a bit long, for setting up time. I already have a location. I'm hoping to have it set up with two games going on at once, simultaneously (I'd be hoping to make a nett profit for the Fund, and this seems necessary.) The "invaders" will comprise (hopefully) of the following: Each row has five people: Young 'uns (Yrs 7 & 8) - 1 point Middl'uns (Yrs 9, 10, & 11) - 2 points Old'uns (Yrs 12 & 13) - 3 points Teachers - 5 points 5 points = wowipop 10 points = Choccy bar 20 points = Big bar (eg Dairy Milk large one) If I were to sell it at around ?1 a go, for thirty seconds, sell 2 a minute and have two games running at once, with a 40-minute window for people to play in, I stand to make a revenue of ?160. Which, frankly, isn't as much as I'd like. This is where your help is required. How can I generate more revenue, and, hopefully, profit? Having brainstormed with a mate, we have some ideas: Sell cream alongside, for an extra 50p, we'll coat the balloons in whipped cream for that extra gooey splat Sell two types of water balloons, one large, one small. Large is 20p extra to play. ...and that's it. So: how else can I generate profit? Would you pay more than ?1 a go for 30 seconds of hectic awesome throwing water balloons at fellow students, and your hated teachers? How about the "added extras"? Thoughts? | 2009-09-11 20:45:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
Ha! That looks great fun, and I reckon it's a great cause you're doing it for, so good luck. More money? Hmm... - Sponsorship: get people (family, friends, the school) sponsor you for how many games actually take place. So, let's say people will give you another pound or two if you sell over 100 games within the time. - Guess the Highest Score: how about a seperate competition where people pay you a pound for having a guess at what the Highest Score achieved will be. If no-one guesses correctly, the winner is the one who made the closest guess. - Bonus Ship: you know the Bonus Ship that appears periodically in Space Invaders? Why not get people to pay you a pound to 'appear' as the Bonus Ship in the rounds. It could be a friend, a teacher etc. They get to run around like crazy for a minute, they risk getting splatted, and they give you a quid for the privilege! Anyway, good look with it - it'll be great fun for everyone. | 2009-09-11 20:56:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
For the sponsorship, I'm not sure about that as an idea. I may look into it, but I don't think kids at my school or whathaveyou will sign up for that (they're not like that ) For the "Guess the highest score", that's quite a good idea, actually. Something along the lines of a mini-tourney, maybe? As for the bonus ship, we're hoping a high-up teacher eg deputy or head will accept. He'll be 5 points. Also, I'll try and record it and post it up here. It won't be done for a month or two though. Here's the main question: How much would YOU be willing to pay to throw water balloons at various teachers and students? | 2009-09-11 21:03:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

Maybe like 2 dollars. | 2009-09-11 21:06:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
To throw water balloons at some of my teachers? (we're talking over 20 years ago remember)... About ?100 for 30 seconds. lol. Some of my teachers were awful! Seriously, I think a pound or two is fair. | 2009-09-11 21:10:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
At going rates, that's, what ?1.50? Not bad, actually. I think we could start with that, it would add quite a lot to revenue. If people are readily paying for cream, say, 50% of the time, then that's an average of 1.70. 1.70*160=?272 Now, I was thinking of something else. If I were to host this two weeks in a row, maybe three, what do you think would happen? I reckon that it would go along the line of the following revenues each week: ?200 ?250 ?230 What with word of mouth and so forth. What do you think? | 2009-09-11 21:13:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |
