Beading & Jewelry - or What I did before LBP.
Archive: 25 posts
Before spending all my spare time making and playing levels in LBP I made jewelry as a hobby. I'll get back to it I'm sure as it's one of the hobbies that's followed me in one form or another my whole life. I've done simple strining, wire work, and embroidery. I love embroidery as I have complete creative freedom to arrange the beads any way I want. Thought I'd share some pics of some of my work. Any other beaders out there? These are embroidered collars & a cuff - each takes approximately 3-4 months of spare time. http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3900.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3908.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3909.jpg My second collar http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3927.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3922.jpg My third collar and matching cuff http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/Collar2.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3896.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3897.jpg A mother's day gift for my mom (pendant only took about two weeks of spare time) http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3913.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3912.jpg Some strung and wire work pieces http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3866.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3937.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3941.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3877.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3875.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3874.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3887.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3885.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3931.jpg http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Jewelery/DSCN3883.jpg | 2009-09-10 23:23:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Wow, Morgana! I'll say it again, WOW! I have a hobby of both creating greetings cards and a bit of jewelry making. I use beads a lot for necklaces and bracelets, and give most out to friends and family as personal gifts. I'll root out some images and post them up. However, mine aren't so intricate as some of yours. I'm really impressed. Well done - that is a real talent you have, seriously | 2009-09-10 23:29:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
Here we go... http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww227/MrsSpookyBuz/jewelry1.jpg http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww227/MrsSpookyBuz/jewelry2.jpg http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww227/MrsSpookyBuz/jewelry3.jpg | 2009-09-11 17:35:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
oh - the amethyst one is really pretty... or is flourite? It's hard to tell. The fiber optic beads in the first one are cool too. If you like those you might like the Japanese "miracle" beads. They have this weird metallic glowy quality to them. | 2009-09-11 17:51:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
This is what I did before LBP. It's KINDA bead related (click link and scroll down a bit to see pictures) Perler Bead Sprites (http://www.kappacino.com/wordpress/?p=258) Admittedly not as good as your stuff, guys. ^_^ | 2009-09-11 17:54:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

They have this weird metallic glowy quality to them. You're right, its amethyst. I really love it. I don't know whether I've seen those 'miracle' beads. I've got a selection of metallic beads - best way I can describe them is they look a bit like they have varying amounts of 'oil-on-water' shades in them! Lol, that's a terrible description! I think the actual stone is called hematite (sp.?). Something like that anyway! Woah, Sara, that stuff is cool. Nice work! (love the pacman ghosts!) | 2009-09-11 17:59:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
You ladies are all absolutely the same, haha! Some very nice work from all of you!! Morgana - Look at those details, that's amazing!! Spooky - Very nice!! you even formed a smiley, intentional or not, in that 2nd pic. Kappa - You geek!! That's awesome!! | 2009-09-11 18:02:00 Author: Zwollie Posts: 2173 |
Yes, I'm a total geek. Those Perler sprites are all over my basement. Edit: The Pac Man Ghosts glow in the dark. ^_^ | 2009-09-11 18:16:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

I think the actual stone is called hematite (sp.?). Something like that anyway! The oil on water ones have what they call an AB or Aurora Borialis finish. Swarovsky crystals have this too. I love AB finishes. Hematite look like slightly shiny but dark metal. Usually dark gray only. Most of the stuff you buy nowadays is actually man made imitation Hematite called "Hemalike" by Fire Mountain Gems. Ok - that's more than anyone needs to know about that. Sorry - I geek on beads almost as much as Sci-Fi and Movies. @ xkappax - those are awesome! I'm trying to recall some of my favorite 8 bit characters I could try and do something like that with. I loved Vai, Sword of Vermillion and a few others but I can't think of anyone specific. lol - I love the Yoshi but the princess and FF characters are just awesome! | 2009-09-11 18:21:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
To be honest, Larry did the Yoshi. I think that's the only one he did though. He tried to do ratchet, too, but it didn't work out. | 2009-09-11 18:30:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

Holy bejeezus! Those are absolutely amazing! Do you sell those? Because I'm telling you now, I would honestly pay a fortune...If I was female, of course -__-' But even so, very pretty! Same for Sh-pooky and Kappax, awesomeness! | 2009-09-11 19:06:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
I do sell some at craft fairs and around the office. I usually stick to the strung work for sale as the embroidery takes far too long to make it profitable. I'm thinking of making some smaller bracelet/cuffs for sale though. Thanks for the kind words guys | 2009-09-11 19:11:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Dayam (censor block!), you're all good! Some great detail here! Also, I'm now kicking myself because I read "Haematite" and immediately thought "Ah yes, haematite is the iron ore Fe2O3 that is used for the extraction of iron in a blast furnace". Man I hate Chemistry... | 2009-09-11 19:25:00 Author: dawesbr Posts: 3280 |

Same for Sh-pooky and Kappax, awesomeness! lol KoRn! You don't have to be a female to wear them - I've made quite a few pieces for SpookyBuz which he wears (whether he wears them because he likes them or because I made them, I don't know! ) | 2009-09-11 19:54:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
There's an awesome bead embroidery artist Sherri Serifini (my idol) who has made pieces for Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. He looks good in them too, Check out her site she's got a pic of her with him. Fair warning though her work makes mine look like kindergarden scribbles. | 2009-09-11 19:57:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |

Yes, some great stuff on show here! It comes as no surprise to me that these three young ladies design brilliantly creative and artistic levels in LBP and are talented in other creative areas. Impressive stuff, well done | 2009-09-11 20:15:00 Author: SpookyBuz Posts: 29 |
Wow, great stuff, ladies. Morgana, I am very impressed that you have the patience to spend months on a single piece. Granted, it's understandable [as I haven't released an lbp level in months]. The intricacies on some of those are mind-blowing. Thanks for sharing. | 2009-09-11 20:28:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

Proper examples of fine crafts-woman-ship (is it a real word, who knows) right there! Looks like more than just a hobby to me. | 2009-09-17 21:42:00 Author: Pitcard Posts: 779 |
