Sticker Switch Trigger not appearing in inventory!
Archive: 12 posts
I have been painstakingly tweaking my first published level to make sure all the objects seem realistic in the context of this created world. I like it when levels make sensible use of the in-game conventions. For example, in order for the steam train to leave the station you have to "^Scan your ticket, please". A prize bubble containing the Ticket sticker can be found just as you arrive at the station and if you 'scan' this ticket at the turnstile, a dissolving block releases the steam train. Problem is, people have reported that the Ticket sticker does not show up in their inventory as a Switch Trigger. It does in mine! And see how much fun the train is? http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h152/brimijoin/thesteamcaboose.jpg Has anyone else had problems creating a Sticker Switch Trigger that you supply to players? I have had to remove this little touch because it was a level-killer. Without the train, the next stage is not accessible. So that bit of whimsy is now missing. The level itself is, sadly, not findable through the search functions - if anyone is interested in trying it, let me know, I will leave a comment on one of your levels and you can find me that way. But more importantly, what am I doing wrong here?! ~ oats-beef ------------------------------------- - Catastrophe Amid the Clouds v1.2 - ------------------------------------- | 2009-09-10 09:30:00 Author: Unknown User |
Unless you've hit a new glitch, I'm guessing that the people complaining didn't know to look in the community photos menu instead of the main sticker menu. | 2009-09-10 10:28:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
Aha! So it's not my fault then. Thanks, I will add the feature back in again. What a relief. (by the way, I had a beer with Jason Molina! Turns out, in addition to being a compelling songwriter, he's a great guy) | 2009-09-10 11:25:00 Author: Unknown User |
Have you made it clear at the start that players need to collect the sticker because they may, like me, always have their prize collection turned off. I take it it's a custom sticker and not a story mode one ? In which case it will always show up for you as you have it already without collecting it. | 2009-09-10 11:29:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
mistervista, good point. No I haven't done that. When I reinstate the sticker switch trigger, I will be sure to add something in at the beginning that lets the player know they will need the train ticket they find. Thanks for the tips. all the best, ~ oats-beef | 2009-09-10 11:56:00 Author: Unknown User |
Real quick. You can always put the sticker conveniently on the wall next to the turnstyle in case the player(s) didn't collect the sicker. This way, they can grab it and drop it on the sticker switch. | 2009-09-10 12:17:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
I thought someone said that doesn't work if the switch isn't in your popit? edit - Ohhhh, I just had an idea. Watch out in the object showcase for a new tech demo this evening (assuming my uber-clever ideas work ) | 2009-09-10 12:19:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

Oh, Uh... *shifty eyes* ... Yeaaah. Um... Yes, yes they do. Every time. That's what happens. TBH I don't think I've ever wired up a sticker switch before, so I'm flying a little blind here. I'm hoping it does work, because I haven't designed any really interesting tech for a while now, since the tentacle or wheeley good switches (not sure which came first) | 2009-09-10 17:25:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Whatever you do, keep in mind that removing a sticker by pressing triangle, rather than picking it up and deleting it, doesn't register to sticker switches. That's why I refuse to use inverted sticker switches... Edit: I think I know what you are going to do. You are going to try to make more mag-key switches, but use stickers and sticker switches instead. Dissolve away the material with the sticker on it, or emit a block with a sticker on it, and your switch will activate. Something tells me it won't work, but it would be awesome if it did. Edit2: Yeah, it doesn't work. Darn. The sticker switch only works when you sticker the same exact object that the switch is on... What are you planning, rtm? | 2009-09-10 18:28:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
It goes in that 50% of my ideas that don't work. It was going to be a system that detected a) if you had object collection switched off b) if you collected the bubble with the sticker in c) if you were at the sticker switch location d) if you actually had the sticker and placed it on the sticker switch (a.b.c) + d => activate output. * a) is not possible though. I thought it would be. * A sticker switch that works normally if you have object collection on, but had a fallback mode for if you didn't | 2009-09-10 22:11:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Well, that's an epic fail for both of us today... | 2009-09-10 23:22:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
