Where are the tycoon games!?
Archive: 23 posts
If it's anything i realized.... it's the decline in tycoon games over the years. I loved Roller Coaster Tycoon and Sim City. I also loved Sid Meier's Golf, Theme Park World, Hospital Tycoon, Ski Resort Tycoon, and many other tycoon games you can name. I just love the tycoon games because it's fun to build, fun to manage, and also pretty random sometimes. Theme Park World and Hospital Tycoon are one of the games that would laugh your socks off but also have fun playing it. I ask you everyone.... where are they!?!!? | 2009-09-09 21:47:00 Author: snowyjoe Posts: 509 |
I only ever got into Rollercoaster Tycoon and Transport Tycoon...the other ones weren't so great, to be honest. In case you're wondering, Chris Sawyer, the guy who basically started the whole Tycoon series, has been missing from the nets for a while. I bet he bought an island somewhere with all the frigging money he made and forgot about us. =E | 2009-09-09 21:54:00 Author: UCHU Posts: 73 |
No, Chris got in a lawsuit or retired, or something like that. RCT3 was made without him and they just sort of decided to not make any more. As for the other tycoons I have no idea as they're made by other companies. | 2009-09-10 00:31:00 Author: Arkei Posts: 1432 |
Well I for one hated the Tycoon series. I have never once liked a Sid Myers game, and I am a big fan of strategy games in general. They are just far too fiddly for me with too little a point. Ah well, to each his own. | 2009-09-10 00:32:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
The tycoons i like are the Rollercoaster tycoons and Zoo tycoons And Maybe Mall Tycoons only cause its fun to design the buildings | 2009-09-10 00:35:00 Author: Snrm Posts: 6419 |

Ah well, to each his own. You hate Sid Meier Games :O The Civilization series is probably my favourite off all time, I still spend way to much time on Civ 4. And now I've got Civ revoloution on my phone I hardly stop | 2009-09-10 19:04:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
I played civilization once it was kinda cool i would take empire earth over it though | 2009-09-10 21:38:00 Author: Snrm Posts: 6419 |
Ahh RollerCoaster Tycoon. My first PC game. Endless hours spent killing pedestrians on broken roller coasters and dropping them into the sea. | 2009-09-11 01:40:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
I love most of these games - I played the hell out of Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2 (never played 3). It's such a sad, weird day when you shop for groceries and see Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 on CD included for free in a box of cereal. No joke. And Sid Meier games are amazing! Elbee, you ever play Pirates? I defy you not to love that game! I just recently played some more Sid Meier's Railroads. That's an addicting game, if you're into that stuff. I'm the type of guy who gets a huge thrill out of building a rail empire and then just zooming in and watching my trains travel around through the country between cities. I'd love to see a sequel with updated graphics. It's basically an epic train table. If you couldn't possibly care less about trains, obviously maybe you should pass. I've put too many hours into Civilization 4 and even Civ Revolution on the old PS3. That's such a fun game. One of my biggest problems with Civ 4 is that it can be daunting to turn it on knowing that you're not going to finish a game in less than a trillion hours. So Revolution fixes that quite handily, and still manages to maintain the totally addicting qualities. | 2009-09-11 09:35:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
What about Sid Meier's Civ Rev? That came out fairly recently. | 2009-09-11 16:08:00 Author: Leather-Monkey Posts: 2266 |
And Sid Meier games are amazing! Elbee, you ever play Pirates? I defy you not to love that game! Pirates is fantastic. I was'nt keen on the newer version for some reason, but still have the Sid Meier pack from around 15 years ago on PC and still play Deluxe every now and again. Me and a freind spent hours playing that on my old 386 I just recently played some more Sid Meier's Railroads. I've never played the new one yet, but again, the old one was brilliant. That was until Transport Tycoon Deluxe came along, I loved that to. Who would have thought that sorting our bus time tables would be so much fun I've put too many hours into Civilization 4 and even Civ Revolution on the old PS3. That's such a fun game. One of my biggest problems with Civ 4 is that it can be daunting to turn it on knowing that you're not going to finish a game in less than a trillion hours. So Revolution fixes that quite handily, and still manages to maintain the totally addicting qualities. Same here Teebonesy. I start an epic game on a higher difficult in Civ 4 and then sit for hours/days until I've done it, I can't get enough of it. I've loved them all since the first all them years ago. I suppose if you hav'nt seen it, or played it at all, it will seem a little daunting at first. Stick with it though, and its one of the most rewarding and deep games you can and probably will play. What about Sid Meier's Civ Rev? That came out fairly recently. I love Civ Rev, I have the xbox version, and its great for a spare few hours. Its a great intro into the series. I have the version on my iPhone, and its hardly ever off to be honest. I'm just hoping they'll convert Civ2 to it, with a few of the new additions from 4. | 2009-09-13 12:14:00 Author: GruntosUK Posts: 1754 |
I like tycoon games but i never play them properly. I just enjoy designing the layout and seeing how large i can make it RCT3 is my favourite my far. Since i don't play them properly it's nice to have decent graphics to look at, and the over-the-top bloom effect that hurts your eyes is kind of cool xD Designing your rollercoasters and seeing what it's like to ride them is nice too I also take the same approach to RTS games like Civ and Empire Earth. Too much time designing my village and watching it grow I always get bored of tycoon games quickly because of this, maybe if my computer was good enough to run anything that isn't DOS quality i'd be able to immerse myself a lot more. | 2009-09-13 14:14:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
My thread has gone from a Tycoon discussion to a Roller Coaster Tycoon discussion to a Sid Meier's discussion!!!!! I really really miss the olden days when you saw all these indi games that had the word tycoon in it... Like Airport Tycoon, Mall Tycoon, Hotel Tycoon, Tropica.. Beach Life.... Am I the only person here that buys any game with the word Tycoon in it? Oh my.... I think i have something in my eye....*sob* But i agree, Sid Meier is great. I loved Pirates! I can actually see the box art on my shelve from here! On second thought.... I'm going to install it and play right now! | 2009-09-14 12:34:00 Author: snowyjoe Posts: 509 |

I loved all the roller coaster tycoons... by rct3 i was downloading add-ons that people had made to add to the level. And that is when i first came across NUCLEARFISH! He was making add-ons for rct3 and when i recently cleared my computer i came across a file titled: Particle effects by Nuclearfish. | 2009-09-17 09:17:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
ah well not to ruin your sobbing from the last two months but...i think i know why the series is declining! first off...free online tycoon games are getting more popular...and you can spend hours each day on addictinggames.com just playing around and having fun with them!...heres a few names from around the web... panademic(disease tycoon) burger tycoon race-horse tycoon! realty tycoon! oiligrachy(oil tycoon...a better one!) celebrity pedigree(messed up breeding tycoon!) and...whats this! amusement park tycoon! cookie tycoon! hot dog tycoon! windfall tycoon! and the list goes on...its scary really!but me myself... i prefer the classic rct3!(lol...just got it today!) | 2009-11-11 04:53:00 Author: theswweet Posts: 2468 |
They're declining because they're all the same The only things newer tycoon games are adding is more stuff to build and better graphics. | 2009-11-11 07:42:00 Author: Dexiro Posts: 2100 |
ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON 2. TRY IT. That is all. | 2009-11-11 08:39:00 Author: Outlaw-Jack Posts: 5757 |
They're declining because they're all the same The only things newer tycoon games are adding is more stuff to build and better graphics. A bit like shooters then. | 2009-11-11 09:06:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
and platformers...and video games in general except lbp! i see a pattern...you create games are getting more popular because...its as epic to you as you want it to be! | 2009-11-11 18:52:00 Author: theswweet Posts: 2468 |

The industry realised that Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and Sim City 4 are such great game that they couldn't beat them. Then they called this genre quit. Next question? . | 2009-11-12 19:14:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
